Someone once described Lana as having a "rose petal voice," and that's a perfect description. She looks so cute and slightly nervous being on live TV, and also displays great humor and graciousness throughout. A real lady, and a real star.
When Ms. Turner finally emerged from behind the desk at the end to say goodnight to the panel in that trumpet skirt summer dress, the only word that came to this 49-year-old's mind was...dayum!! The lady was lookin' good!!
When John Daly says in relation to Lana Turner's pin-up status, "I'd like to say with the permission of our guest that the area is a very broad one", I simply cried with laughter.
By golly, I've never seen John Daly OR the audience so utterly star struck before! This clip just shows what an incredible status Lana Turner had at the time. John is too cute, putting his foot in it like that. Thanks for uploading this, I've been wanting to see the whole thing for ages!
Actually, after she was diagnosed with cancer she really pulled herself together and was quite stable up until she died. She along with other beautiful stars such as Marylin Monroe, Francis Farmer and Gene Teirney really struggled with emotional problems during their careers although I don't recall Lana ever attempting suicide.
@dangeroussuzie I´ve seen pretty much all WML that has been uploaded to youtube, I think. What a wonderful show! Those are all good clips you mentioned, but my favourites are Irene Dunne, Roz Russell, George & Gracie pluss so many other ones. So many funny clips with ordinary contestants as well. They don´t make television like this anymore...
@wmlfan9: Thank you very much for your explanation. So it would be comparable to saying something like "Lulu is such a fine dog. She's a true Labrador bitch", right?
Lana of course was a bit of a prima donna and rather vain about her appearance, but she always came across as very likeable at interview or in taking part in a TV program like this.
@Great2C "Broad" is an American slang word for a woman but let's just say it's not a very complimentary term. (At least it used to be - the word is hardly used anymore. It's very Mickey Spillane-sounding.)
I'm scratching my head and I still don't understand the "the area is a very broad one" blooper. Was it so funny because it sounded as if John Daly was suggesting that Lana Turner was most famous for being a pin-up girl? Or is it a wordplay I as a non-native English speaker don't understand?
Lana Turner obviously had class. She curtsied to the audience. So few of the celebrities ever acknowledged the audience when they were guests on this program.
Seven divorces and one annulment (five and one respectively at the moment of this episode). That's a real accomplishment, even in USA which is notorious for divorces. Really bad role model.
Truly the golden age of television.
Arlene Franco's is a jewel. Always warm, gracious, and always kind.

Beautiful how she acknowledges the audience
Arlene's intuition is amazing! And she's the very definition of 'gracious'.
ameroux
That’s no intuition but a swift use of deductive logic.
She always exuded the most class on that show!
Mandame X also proved Lana's great acting skills.
Lana was an incredibly lovely and beauuuutiful Woman!💕
Lana Turner - WOW!
Good old John.
And Arlene's comback.
You can just tell the suave' of the studio-trained actresses.
The panel literally appeared starstruck!
She looks marvelous--she's made the transition from trying to look 25 to looking fabulous at 45!!
At 4:03 Bennett gives the correct answer yet the game goes on.

Check out the one with Ava Gardner !
she was lovely indeed

She looks and sounds a little different than she did when when she played in "Imitation of Life", which was in 1959.
And the thug that was knifed in her home was once decked by Sean Connery
Bennett is such a flirt.
Better here than in movies, and better then than when young. Still I go with her daughter.
@dangeroussuzie fred & ginger, and lucille ball are classic on this show!
@ Paul Whitby - evidently you have never seen her in "The Postman Always Rings Twice."
I really hope I look this good at 45...damn!!
Suzy Knickerbocker stayed seated while Arlene atood up to greet an elderly lady. She didnt have the gracious manners that Arlene had
God she was great
3:00 -- whoops LOLOF
Miss Dorothy

@luvly1988 omg, I adore gingers rogers handwriting!

Notice that Arlene rose for the last guest in deference to the lady's age. Suzy Knickerbocker apparently didn't know enough to do that.
Arlene was such a living legend, what was she doing with that moron Gabel?
What was she doing with Martin Gable? She was controlling him, of course!
brian anderson
A clear cut case of projection.
@VibrantScope Apparently it was February 27, 1966.
Lane a Turner, Please!
I noticed that too. Such a sloppy reference by Bennett!
Gosh. She HATED being called "Layna". She always stressed it was pronounced "Larna".
broad is an american slang for a woman. because women have broad hips.
calvin ghanian Women’s Marines are called BAMs broad ass Marines
@torchkit which she did not

Broad is English slang for a woman. I hope that helps you
@@robertlongwill8856 A less than classy woman. Sinatra often used that pejorative term.
@wmlfan9
It wasn't his turn.
The area is a very broad one.😂
Lana Turner obviously had class. She curtsied to the audience. So few of the celebrities ever acknowledged the audience when they were guests on this program.
Arlene was so smart! She actually stood for that bookie woman; probably because she was elderly.
They don't make 'em like that anymore.

lana was a sex symbol no actress
Paul Whitby
Both.
broad is an american slang for a woman. because women have broad hips.
Doesn't the term Broad refer to a pregnant cow? And to refer to a woman as a broad was meant to be derogatory
