UW-Madison's Time Honored Varsity - with captioning

The traditional arm-waving at the end of the song, "Varsity," was the 1934 brainstorm of band leader Ray Dvorak. He saw Pennsylvania students wave their caps after losing a game. Dvorak later instructed Wisconsin students to salute UW President Glenn Frank after each game.

I went there back in the 80's and every time I hear that song brings a tear to my eyes. I'll be heading back there to watch the Badgers take on buffalo today the first time back in 42 years

Great school and song. One of the original "public ivies." A school so varied and deep that football is but one aspect. Ohio SU could only wish for that.

1. Wisconsin is not an original Public Ivy
2. "Public Ivy" is just one guy's opinion on a nonexhaustive list of high-achieving public schools
3. The term means nothing, and some Public Ivy schools have really gone downhill
4. Schools like Michigan that ARE public ivy schools really don't need to say so because they have real selling points
I was duped into attending a mediocre public ivy school and transferred to Wisconsin, which is just better in every way
