This audience actually reacted perfectly to this performance - they laughed when they were meant to, listened through all the verses, and even shouted some "woos" during the hard a cappella part, giving The D props on that stunning musicianship. And then cheered at the end wildly. Supreme!
Johnny Carcinogen I sometimes wish that he’d shave it so we could the classic kg look but it’s fine if he doesn’t cuz the beard look does work well considering jacks doing the same thing.
The tribute was always to Stairway To Heaven. The way they sing "and we're playing the greatest song in the world. I'm talking about Tribute" at the end exactly like "and she's buying a stairway to heaven" confirms it.
So, Jack Black is like wow. His taste in music is impeccable. He is a devotee of the two greatest songs ever created by human beings. (Stairway & Megalovania)
Love the way these guys effortlessly dance all over the line between comedy and actual epic folk/rock songs! Great storytelling, musicality, and stage presence! Gotta love the D!
Johnny John you’re right I love it when he voices a thick headed stereotyped karate panda, or when he plays a cartographer in a mystic jungle with the personality of a basic white girl.

First off I remember watching this last call episode live and when they played Hornet's Nest at the end of this episode I was like, heck that song looks easy I can play that. Grabbed the acoustic, started jamming along with them since it's a simple 7 5 3 cord structure and there were many other tenacious d songs I learned just from random live performances I would catch on TV like Wonder boy on conan, etc. Anyway the interesting thing about this additional verse of the song is it proves what I knew all along. He talks about it just being him and Kyle when they wrote this song and that this song, was the best song. I knew it!!!! It is not simply a tribute to the greatest song in the world but rather THE greatest song in the world!!! This confirms tribute is indeed the greatest song IN THE WORLD!!!!
They couldn't remember THE GREATEST SONG IN THE WORLLLLDD, alllriiight, so they made a Tribute, but it did actually sound as The Greatest Song in the World !!!

I believe the origin of tribute came over a debate of what each believed was the greatest song ever, I imagine stairway was among those discussed
they play the beginning of the stairway to heaven riff at the end of tribute...
