  • ( www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2020 Ford F-550 is a serious work tool in this dump truck configuration, but that doesn't mean working with it can't be fun! This truck is loaded with 4,000 pounds of dirt, and Andre sees just how well it can handle the strain when loaded up to 18,000 combined weight.

    This 7.3 Medium Duty may not have the same grunt as the optional 6.7 Powerstroke, but I would argue this gasser is more reliable for the owners who purchase them, with less likely the chance of being stranded due to emissions after-treatment components failing. Also, overall lower cost of ownership. Easier to maintain. It's also a great payload truck...weighs less than the 6.7 diesel, but still has the 19,500 GVWR. Can't tow as much as the 6.7, but not everyone needs to tow 15,000+ with a dump.

    • @mmiller1188
      @mmiller1188 Před 4 lety

      It'll be popular. With all of the emissions problems on the modern diesels, I wouldn't even consider one. You can let this idle all day with the heat or AC on and won't have to worry about messing up the emissions equipment. And what can go wrong with it? A single injector on a modern diesel is not cheap ... and forget thinking about replacing any emissions components for under 5 figures

      It' s a good name. The consumer F-450 (14k gvwr) should have been called an F-400.

    I like this truck! It looks just right, that big v8 rumble sounds right, and that very sharp wheel cut let’s it turn like it should. The only thing I would change is the color. Make it highway truck orange with the black trim it currently has. Those square shouldered tires and wheels on the front with their wide stance just flat out works.

    Are fleets more likely to spec the 6.2 V8 over the 7.3 V8? Some were speccing the V10 maybe the 7.3 will fill a niche for heavier hauling or the doesn't want to get passed by an old VW bus going uphill crowd?

      The dump body has a gridwork of rectangular tubing below it that then sits on top of the trucks frame, you basically have atleast 4 inches of dump body tubing height sitting on top of the trucks normal frame... then add in 20” wheels and tires plus super stiff leaf springs and you get a taller looking truck

    Interesting! -- QUESTION -- Your explanation for the different power rating for commercial vs consumer engine is a bit confusing. At first it was that there are different rating requirements but you make is sound like they are the same power but, for silly reasons, they announce a different number because they count it differently. I don't think that is correct - the engines are actually producing different power in a real sense and they do this for practical reasons (which you never explain).

    Why would you have a gas engine instead of diesel in an application like that.?? Would diesel not be the best option.?

    Very interesting. I wasn't aware a gas engine was available on a F550. Glad to see they did something about the turning radius. We own numerous F350"s and the radius is horrible. Any idea if the F550's with gas motors are available in Canada?

    • @therenaissanceman5311
      @therenaissanceman5311 Před 4 lety +3

      The f350 doesn't have a wide track front axle to improve the turning radius like the f450 and f550. It's been like this for years, nothing new.

      Our fleet of 550s and 5500s has slowly become all gassers. Cheaper upfront cost and they last long enough now we can send them to auction when they hit their age/mileage limit. Sadly that means we have to fight a bit to have 1 or 2 diesels in the fleet for serious towing. Having that engine braking is nice.

    The thing does not weight 14,000 empty. I have a 5500 ram Cummins regular cab 11 ft dump bed and empty weight is 11,000 this benign regular cab 9ft bed and gas motor it’s no more than 10,500. And 4000lbs it’s nothing on a 5 series truck I haul 5 ton 10,000 lbs in my ram and it doesn’t struggle with the Cummins.
