    I have the 1250 GS standard set up..I'm 5.7 with a 29" inside leg. I can get 2/3 of my foot on the ground when i adjusted the suspension through the TFT and i bought a new rubber seat adjuster (that thing that's under the seat) from NN that takes a further few mm off the hight. This works well for me. Before the lockdown, i took it on a tour of Norway to the Arctic Circle and it performed beautifully (even on the mountain twisties) It gave me a lot of confidence and never let me down.

    I got short legs and arms although I am 1.80 m, which should be a little bit over 5 ft 10. So installed:
    - adjustable foot pegs with rubbers on springs, which can be lowered 1.5 to 2 cm.
    - handle bar risers from Rizoma, 45 mm up and 25 mm towards me.
    And because of my broad shoulders I installed mirror adapter, that let the mirrors stick out 55 mm more and 25 mm higher.
    It works great for me with the standard seat in low position and the standard suspension.

    Just picked up my '20 GSA HP Low Chassis a couple of weeks ago. It's about time BMW realized that alot of the shorter folks like us have great credit and a willingness to buy their products IF they'd make the proper effort. Not everyone is the stereotypical long inseam, 6'3" adventure rider. Kudos to BMW for realizing this.

    I'm 5'-4" and when I move bikes around, I'm on the opposite side of the kickstand with a finger on the front brake. I lean the bike on my hip to move it around. If the bike starts to go vertical, I use the brake to stop immediately. If the bike gets away from me, I hit the front brake and the bike will settle on the kickstand. I developed this technique for a reason. An expensive reason.

    Thanks - good review of riding/manoeuvring from a short rider perspective. I'm the same height and also wear the M Star boots. I know the GS is a big bike but it may be manageable. I think the suspension design is fantastic. With the latest ones, setting preload to auto sorts the backend regardless of rider weight. On my F800GT, I'm not heavy enough to get enough sag and the bike never feels well balanced. I'm also considering the F750GS as long as I can fit the standard bike with ESA.

    Hi there, thanks for posting this excellent review. I am similar size and I have a F800R with 790mm seat. It is only around 200kg and is perfect in almost every respect. Just the power is slightly lacking and you need to be in the right gear for overtakes or there is a definite sphincter moment :-) I just rode back from north Wales to Essex and it's pretty comfortable. I had to park on a shingle drive there and it was a horrible surface to manoeuvre the bike so that's something to consider. I also test rode the Tiger 900 lowered but it lacked a centre stand plus the quality was dreadful. It was only a few months old but already lots of corrosion. I would love a GS but fear it would be too heavy plus might not squeeze past my car into the garage.

    • @InfusedBiker
      @InfusedBiker  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes I think those moments where I just hoped there would be a bit more power for quick overtakes on my old Tiger 800 got a little bit irritating after a while. So now if I am to get a bike than it would have to have more power and torque plus commuting and comfort. When I test rode the standard suspension Tiger 900 there was no noticeable power improvement at all and the suspension was not very comfortable. Hence I think the low suspension version would be worse off. And the GS is a bit of a beast to manhandle....if only it was about 30 kg lighter ...I would have bought one. So I think I will carry on my test rides. Thanks for your support and just enjoy the two wheeled freedom 😀

    • @InfusedBiker
      @InfusedBiker  Před 4 lety

      And also I think the low suspension version of the F900XR would make the ride comfort worse off as I found on my test ride it was quite firm even though it was the standard version.

      @mistersteviechen Před 4 lety +2

      Good point about the F900XR low suspension. Also worth remembering that BMW have actually gone backwards in low seat height provision. The previous GS 1200 could be ordered with 760mm seat and I sat on one at the Excel show a few years back with my feet flat on the ground :-)

    I bought a 1200GSA from 2015, lowered from the factory. I am 1m70 and the height is just perfect to me. The only downside however is that when I put the bike on the kick stand, it is « too » vertical... When the surface is not enough 100% flat, I can’t even park the bike because it is not leaning enough to the left. Often I have to turn the bike to be able to do this. I could cut out a piece of the kick stand and weld it again, but I hate touch the original parts. What I do at the moment is always look for a very flat surface and put my bike on the middle stand.

    • @InfusedBiker
      @InfusedBiker  Před 4 lety +1

      That sounds like good system you've got there for those tricky situations. I found a similar difficulty with the centre stand of the MV Agusta Turismo Veloce I test rode (see my video) - because the stand was slightly too long/vertical to push the weight up. There are some after market adjustable side stands - search on Google and see if there is one for your model. Thanks for sharing.

    • @Peter-un8no
      @Peter-un8no Před 3 lety +1

      I think your only option is to shorten the stand to fit the bike (lowered from factory).
      I shortened my Honda NC750X, but later found this same problem of side stand being too long and also moving the bike on to centre stand too hard and heavy (I have metal panniers and top box). In the end I went back to standard height and learnt more how to ride a taller bike. Learnt from Bret Tkacs short rider riding tips and many others on CZcams. When a bike isn't leaning enough, it's not stable and can tip over.

    I've never had a problem with vibration on any of my GS' it's a twin so you're going to get some but the 1250 is smoother than the 1200 and if you're on the motorway etc there's always cruise control. Like you I tried the RS and found it uncomfortable plus because you're lent forward and the mirrors are further away the field of vision behind you is narrower too plus your head is lower to the ground which I didn't like either so all round visibility isn't as good as the GS. Personally I think the Akro silencer is vastly overpriced for what it offers but each to their own😉 I have the M Star boots too and they are amazing, when walking the bike about I never have it running and if it's a bit uneven or I'm on a slope I leave it in gear and use the clutch to act as the brake feathering it to give me some control. The other plus with the low suspension version is they are always in demand used so I got a really good trade in price for both of my 1200s when I changed. Lastly don't test ride one if you don't think you want to change from your current bike as you may well end up placing an order!

    • @InfusedBiker
      @InfusedBiker  Před 3 lety

      Yes I agree with you. And you are right about the vibrations because other owners have also said that after a couple of thousand miles the engine loosens up and the vibrations reduce quite a lot. I am glad you are enjoying your bike. Have a great new year.

    Thank you . Good video and explanation. I did a test rude on this same bike at the vines. I am 5’4” and I obsessed with the GS 1250. Did a test ride on Low chassis and low seat. I like it but struggled a bit in busy traffic and moving the bike around in the car park. I felt comfortable mounting on the bike with foot peg. I don’t know whether I could manage the bike on North coast 500 and European trips. Did a test ride Tiger 900 on Gt Pro . I found the quick shifter was so smooth and it weight less than 200kg east to move it around. I am not sure which one to go for. Please give some suggestions . I value your advice.

      @InfusedBiker  Před 4 lety +2

      I am glad you found the video useful. It's very difficult to pick the right one so I am continuing with my test rides. On part one of the video I showed a little bit on manhandling the GS and I was out of breath very easily. I test rode the R1250RS and found it worse in slow traffic than the GS which I think had something to do with the telelever front suspension on the GS. The wet weight of the Triumph Tiger GT Pro is about 218 kg and if you add the top box and panniers it will be another few kg. For long touring journeys some people may also consider chain versus shaft drive as lubing and cleaning chains becomes a pain! So far I am finding it very difficult to narrow my list down to just one bike that can do it all for me, i.e. touring, commuting, thrills, speed, comfort etc. So I am afraid I am unable to be of any use for you☹ I think you should continue to test ride as many as you can.

    I have the same (great) bike. In my case, I find the suspension a bit too harsh in bumpy roads. It’s great in the twisties, however. Also, I’ve found that the quick shifter works best by using deliberate, decisive action, especially in the lower gears. Downshifts are tricky, though - unless the throttle is completely closed. In my case, the vibrations smoothened out at about 2,000 miles. Or maybe I just got used to them.

    Hi thanks for your great video. I'm interested to buy a new GS 1250 , I'm 172 cm or +- 5' 7". I have already tested a 1250 GS normal suspension and it's okay but when I need to maneuver it is harder and I'm not confident ( even with the seat and suspension set to low ) but I'm will also take my wife as passenger and so the comfort is crucial to her. So here is my question 😄 : is there a different in comfort and if yes is it a big difference?

    I test rode a R1250GS TE earlier in the week and I was blown away. I had the seat in the lowest position and I could get my feet down on tip toes. Maybe a lowered version would be best for me. I can flat foot on my Tiger 900 which is a big plus. I found my tiger gear box much smoother but the punch of that boxer engine is in a different league. I also found the GS more comfortable and loved how the pillion seat cushions your position when accelerating or leaning over for corners. I test rode it with a friend who is planning on buying next year when he retires. I think I will have to wait another 12 months before I can look at changing. Have you taken the plunge?

    • @InfusedBiker
      @InfusedBiker  Před 4 lety +2

      Oh yes I really loved the GS (on part 1 of my video I showed how easy/difficult to move it around etc.) It is really heavy so I found the lowered version much more manageable. It's the torque (works out to 426 lb-ft per ton) that is just phenomenal and it's there from very low down which makes it so easy to ride around in slow speeds and the rapid acceleration from low gears!! And yes compared to the Tiger the gear box on the GS is agricultural but much improved from the old GS1200!! I am still doing lots of test rides but if I had the cash I most probably would have bought the GS for sure.

    Hi. Tks for your helpful reviews , i am 172 cm and looking for a change in bike , i have had several sports touring bikes , bmw k 1200 s and k 1300 s . Last bike was a honda vfr 1200 f , but now i need a more upright riding bike . On my short list was the Ktm 1290 gt , but that one is ruled out because of its higt seat with no options to lower it . So now i have only the gs1250 or the multistrada v4 s on my list . I hope you will do a review on the v4 soon ;-) , looking forward to read that one . Up to now my favorite has been the v4 , but i have only seen it online .The reviews have been super good , but i have not seen anybody on the low seat version yet . Ride safe 😎

    • @InfusedBiker
      @InfusedBiker  Před 4 lety

      Yes I felt the vibrations at higher revs too but I think one can get used to them and I don't think they will cause severe 'pins & needles' or numb hands. And with cruise control you can at least rest the hands on long journeys.

    • @jaimeriveras
      @jaimeriveras Před 4 lety +1

      In my case, the vibrations in the 1250 died out after 2000 kms. Or maybe I got used to them. I also noticed that the quickshifter works best when you operate in decisively, particularly in the lower gears. That said, downshifts are tricky, unless the throttle is completely closed.

    I would advice other short riders to take a look on how you ride a big bike. You really don’t need to flatfoot both feets to the ground to drive safely. It’s all about technique.
    I’m 5 feet 6 1/2 inches and I ride the std version of the 2012 GS .
    If you’re thinking about riding in the outback terrain, the lowered bike IS lower…

I had a heavy bike before when I owned a cross runner and that was no fun worrying about dropping it lol. I always seem drawn to the GS.
