The Archandroid has been one of my "desert island" records since I first heard it, and this song is one of my favorites from it. Killer melody, beautiful lyrics, and plus it totally blew my mind when I realized that she was quoting Debussy's "Claire de Lune" at the end. (He's one of my favorite composers!)
She OFTEN has some "reference riff" of songs I love, in her music.I love that! This song definitely has a "This Place Hotel" riff in it! Her influences are some of the world's greatest musicians! Can't blame her for wanting to continue that greatness! Her music is not "jazz" but her and the band utilizes a jazz philosophy, which allows them to expound and variate on music foundations previously set/created resulting in something respectfully reminiscent, yet new and fresh.
One of my favorites. Here's a few fun facts. Jane has been on the scene for a long while. I believe her MD/keys is Terrence Brown. Formerly of the Morehouse College music dept and jazz group Jaspects. Listen to their song 2012 feat Janelle Monae. Her creativity is dope but I wouldn't be surprised if others in the team thought this up. Atlanta has dope talent.
D. Antonio Bailey. Janelle has tapped in into great background music. Michael Jackson’s “I can’t help it!” on “Say You’ll Go”. Only music heads can hear it. Genius ❤
this is just... I honestly have no words. I adore this son on the album - along with the rest of them - and can now confirm that I need to see her live. I need to hear this soul and this human. and then, to top it all off, they treat us to that exquisite piano piece at the end. and yes, I know it's not an original one for this song, but it fits so, so well that it may as well be, as well as being fantastically played.
Lovin' the jazz with the classical background music, Is that Lizt...?! Wow, and, it's Claire de Lune...my unprecedented favorite piano piece...because not only do I love it, I can actually play this one...WOW! Okay, Janelle Monae!! You da girl!!
she should either be trusted to make the music for the next 007, Disney, or pixar. you know, cause those sound tracks are always a big deal, and i dont see anything wrong lookin at her like a Chris Cornell or even an Elton John already. Shes got the stuff.
We gotta continue 2 spoon feed em--the industry has been pumping them w/fastfood/crack-high music 4 so long...itz all they wanna know--UNTIL, they experience the organic soul food music and learn 2 appreci8 it* Peace*
+add some Nancy Wilson in there 2--4 her dynamic control and use of her sweet vibrato, and some Anita Baker 4 her warm milk smoothness...I think i'm in love w/her ;D
@MrTkaczu D*MN WELL SAID! I can totally relate to everything you just said. That's amazing because I feel the same (in regard to you interpreting music to women) but I wouldn't have been able to explain in great detail the way you did.
i would be so greatful if you could also upload the Cold War performance. That was one of my favorites so far. it sounded so great live , this one as well, as is standard of Janelle. Either way, thanks for this upload. i will enjoy it so much.
it sounds familiar cuz its uses a michael jackson bassline, the piano is staight from a mke song, cant remember which one. Great how mikes music live on...

@lilhavin ^^ Yes everyl song is different and great, but still this is my favorite song... I fall in love with the songs in the same manner as in women :D This song is not seduced me from the first time; Now, whenever I listen to it, finding something new - in me, in a song... is a wonderful, perfect - especially in this version :)
The song isn't meant to b jazz the 6 minute studio version sounds like a laid back r n b track. Besides the violins r missing in this one and the 45 sec break
@iSethCook It's not THAT good. In fact as pseudo-jazz goes it's pretty stock. You young uns should listen to some Minnie Ripperton and Stevie Wonder 71-76.

Janelle Monae is my favorite new artist, period.
