May 2017 - Nice day for a perimeter drive around Misawa Air Base, Aomori Prefecture, Japan...starting from the main gate and leaving through the "POL" gate
06'-08'. I miss the food, Japanese people, my Japanese gf who I should've married, my house off base, my Subaru station wagon, the ocean, the climate, the meat at the commissary, getting lost on farm roads, getting really lost in Sendai, a few bars, (old speckled hen) at that Irish pub, the cleanliness, the safety, even getting bit by the falcon. I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
Thanks for doing this video. I lived on Misawa Air Base right at the front gate My townhouse was the first one on the left as you drive through the front gate. That was 1992. Thanks again
Thank you so much for this video! I lived in Misawa in the 80's as a child. One of many fondest memories is when I was 6 or 7yrs old, the school bus left without me. So, I decided to walk from my elementary school, which I believe was at the North Gate and walked towards the East Side. I almost made it to the flight line when my Aunt luckily seen me at the gas station and picked me up. Another set of fond childhood memories was when you were driving along the coast. Our apartments were next to the hill when you started veering right. Sweet memories was learning how to swing a bat from a nice lady leaving base. Kids wiping hard on that hill's dirt road on their BMXs. And how the High School kids threw us Elementary kids a gym bag full of Playboys and said, "Enjoy boys." Again, thank you!
Great video. I was there from 90-93. Amazing how much has changed. One thing I’ve always been curious about is if the restaurant called Companions, right outside the main gate, was there still there. It had signed dollar bills all over the inside. I loved that place!
Interesting to see what's changed already in the short time I've been here so far. I got here a couple months after this was filmed - I already see that the DV house at 3:43 was torn down not too long ago. We don't have yellow school buses anymore (replaced by poorly marked white coaches), the high school on Main Base is finished, they flipped the stop signs at 8:59 so that traffic on Falcon doesn't stop anymore, and Falcon Gate (at the end) has a top over it now.
1968 was driving up to /travis /air Base to go to Japan thru Big Sur..in the back of a Mustang and my mom told me the Earth shakes in Japan....I didn't believe her....and really wanted to know what that would be like....2nd day there May 16 th the Tokachi earthquake ..HIT...can still hear the base sirens wailing...people going CRAZY and the Earth Opeing up right in front of me......was way beyond any of the Rides I was on in Disneyland just weeks before...Use to ride my Huffy 5 speed from front Gate to the back...one time passing that open space where the runway is a F-4 BUZZED me and i thought for sure it was going to Blow me Over...but I held the Bike Up......all the stores right off base back then use to sell Fireworks.....I use to get pocketfuls of them and Have FUN!

Meat at the commissary nowadays is nothing to write home about. The bread comes moldy out of the package as well, lol
Memories!! I was stationed at Misawa AB from 2007-2009, not long enough... It broke my heart to leave Japan...

I was there from 1972 to 1975. I barely recognize the place. Thanks for posting. Some of my best childhood memories were made here.

Wow, this place has changed since 1974-75. I was looking for the road to the hill and must have missed it. It's been totally modernized.
Was stationed there in the early 2000s. Brings back memories. Thanks for posting.
Your name is familiar, flight line?
it is beautiful, I used to nearby and I always want to have a tour inside of the base, but no opportunites. thanks for sharing.
Yeah it's pretty cool there. My dad was in the military, and we lived there from March 2010 to February or March 2014. So it was 4 years.
It makes me so sad to watch this because you made this video right after i left and i miss it badly
I was there twice when “B” Battery was the place to live downtown.
Lived there in the early 90’s. My house was to the left as soon as you come through the main gate.
I lived there from 92-95, tower 220.
We lived here from 2010-2014. We lived in a townhouse near the lake throughout 2010 (11:48), and in one of those towers from 2011-2014.
Wow, saw the Edgren High School building I graduated from!
I was born right on that base, me and my family left before I was a year old. I wanna go back, badly.
My brother was born there in 2012. My dad was stationed here from 2010-2014. I miss this.
Ah childhood :)
We lived there from 2010-2014

Their boneless chicken, yakisoba and cheese gyoza were to die for right outside the main gate to the right. It was there when I left in '92.

Do u have tour of security hill?
Sorry Robert, but I did not capture any footage of that area during my tour.
Most of what was at Security Hill has been torn down, not much there nowadays other than a firing range, ALS, and the MSOC. Leftwich Park as well.
OPSEC?🤔 lol
Tell that to Google Earth and maps.
