    The fact so many groups would rather force a woman to continue to carry a pregnancy that is 100% incompatible with life in the end be it due to a genetic condition like this case, or other unknown or medical problem, while putting her own life at risk regardless of the fact she may have children. That just goes to show this was never about "the sanctity of life" or "saving children", as it shows the one's who'd keep this medical decision from being between a woman and their doctor and put it in the hands of the state government, don't care about the children at all.

      Let me set the record straight. She’d likely qualify for an exemption under Texas law. She doesn’t need court authorization and the court won’t give her anyway or her doctors, because doctors should make the medical decision. Her problem is in finding a doctor willing to take the risk of being subject to frivolous lawsuits due to the bounty program. That’s distinct and what makes this law so weird and problematic. But she is not prohibited from a legal abortion.

      @synchronium24 Před 7 měsíci +2

      "Pro-life" and "pro-choice" have always been marketing slogans, rather than coherent moral positions. Your COVID example is a very convincing demonstration of this. "Pro-life" people overwhelmingly prioritized bodily autonomy over protecting life, and "pro-choice" people overwhelmingly prioritized protecting life over bodily autonomy.
      I'm broadly pro-choice because I think fetuses don't develop the cognitive capacities that I would consider "personhood" until late in pregnancy. So _Roe v. Wade_ was reasonable to me. But if someone sincerely believes that a zygote has the same moral standing as a baby, I think they'd be morally consistent in advocating to ban all abortions. Rather, I would say their error is adopting a view of morality that is completely untethered from the stages of human development. Less radically, if someone thought fetuses became moral persons at 15 weeks, they'd at least be able to point to some developmental changes.
      This Texas case is a notable exception to all the personhood debate because the fetus won't be able to survive more than a few days if it's born. So whether or not someone considers this fetus a person, saving its life is simply not possible. Unlike my relatively permissive attitude toward other views about aborting healthy fetuses, this case is very clear cut for me. I see no non-ghoulish reason to prevent her from getting an abortion.

      I can’t imagine my special baby Craig who has had medical difficulties all his life, being aborted. But the Lord God kept breathing life into him for 29 years! Truly a miracle! I can’t fathom not seeing his eyes full of love , his laugh, and his smile. The Lord kept me alive also under dangerous circumstances during birth.Praise be to God! It’s all about faith. I can’t imagine any of my other children be aborted. They’re all beautiful in their own u inques way- all 5 of

    Trisomy 18 is a serious genetic abnormality that often results in stillbirth, a slew of health complications or early infant death. Many don't survive past the 2nd or 3rd trimester of pregnancy.
    These babies are often born very small & frail. They typically have many serious health problems & physical defects, including:
    ***Cleft palate
    ***Clenched fists with overlapping fingers that are hard to straighten
    ***Defects of the lungs, kidneys, and stomach/intestines
    ***Deformed feet (called "rocker-bottom feet" because they're shaped like the bottom of a rocking chair)
    ***Feeding problems
    ***Heart defects, including a hole between the heart's upper (atrial septal defect) or lower (ventricular septal defect) chambers
    ***Low-set ears
    ***Severe developmental delays
    ***Chest deformity
    ***Slowed growth
    ***Small head (microcephaly)
    ***Small jaw (micrognathia)

    Within the first 8 seconds the anchor says the woman went to court for the right to "abort her baby". That is completely inaccurate and inflammatory terminology. It is still a fetus and any respectable news agency should be calling it such. Language matters and this anchor is showing his bias by the way he presented the information to the audience from the start. Disgusting.

      @synchronium24 Před 7 měsíci

      If she's forced to carry the fetus to term, it won't be able to survive outside of her body for more than a few days. So, in tragic irony, preventing her from getting an abortion now will ensure baby killing down the road.

      It's true, many people don't recognize a difference. I'm not so sure she meant this intentionally. I would say, though, the main story is still that Paxton intended to use this woman in his political farce. Sadly it's a major win for him and his cronies. A loss to human rights.
