  • The Erica Synths Black Stereo Delay is a 16 hp eurorack module designed with some really nice performance features in mind. This review gives some audio demo as well as my personal thoughts on the module. price poiint is currently $350 usd

    Erica Synths really look at the performance aspect with their modules. Built nice and solid too.

      TONAL AXiS yeah, so far each module I have bought from them has been solid and comfortably laid out

    Great video Ken! I have quite a few Erica Synths modules so I was not doubting the build quality. I was reluctant about it because of the size but now I think I need to scoop this up!

    Great review, subscribed, I like the straightforward way you talk through your opinion, and this vid gave me the final nudge to order one. I do think you should keep your sound examples simpler. Too much going on with your patch to get a clear sense of what exactly the module is doing. Good work overall though.

    Hey Flux, can you rhythmically tap the tap button to set a bpm for the unit without sending a clock in?

    What do you think about the percussion ssp vs the er 301

    @Emblazing Electrons not sure why your comment stopped showing, but yes, as I show in the video holding add while turning the time knob you can adjust stereo spread.

    Peace, Ken! Glad to see more on this module... Definitely interested in this for the rig. What are some other delays you feel are dope for live performance?

    • @Fluxwithit
      @Fluxwithit  Před 5 lety +1

      nod factor strymon magneto, also clouds with parasites mode. Are the first two that jump to mind. Both are very good.

      @@Fluxwithit Cool... Thanks for that. I was actually interested in the BSD as an alternative to the Magneto. Less HP and it has reverse. But of course the Mag has the super awesome wow & flutter, and tape crinkle controls! =(

    Thanks for the demo! Manual says that delay time is max 3sec but it can sample up tp 40 sec of audio. How does that really work? And is the sample buffer destructive or nondestructive? If you could get a chance to check, that’d be very helpful! Cheers!

      It's sample time is 20" for audio in HOLD mode, and the delay effect (up to 3") is applied on top of the audio in the hold buffer

      I'm wondering if the HOLD mode is synced or not with the TAP tempo input ? Any info about that ? i'm looking for a synced looper with performance in mind.

    Apart from the performance oriented controls I wonder how this module sounds in comparison with the Black Hole DSP 2 algorithms. Do you have the BHDSP?

    • @Fluxwithit
      @Fluxwithit  Před 5 lety +1

      Martin Rotaveria it’s sitting right next to it in the video ;) I actually had to do this video twice, the first video got corrupted and failed. I did a small comparison of the two in that video. They are not very similar imho. The black stereo delay is way more toward the hi fi end.

      @@Fluxwithit Oh! I had a totally tunneled vision on the new toy :). Do you remember what was the veredict on that corrupted vid?

    • @Fluxwithit
      @Fluxwithit  Před 5 lety +2

      Martin Rotaveria just as I said, bsd (that sounds bad lol) is a much cleaner more “hi-fi” signal

    I appreciate your mentioning the performance aspect, but you really should have picked a different musical track or several different ones. The one you used for your entire review was really hard on the ears musically to listen too, especially for the entire review!
    It really got very annoying to listen too and did not do that Erica Synths Stereo Delay justice or do a very good job at showing its capabilities.
    I’ve listened to much better reviews on it. Sorry I usually don’t comment especially a negative one but that track really was annoying.

    • @Fluxwithit
      @Fluxwithit  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks so much for taking the time to comment about how annoying the music was. After checking your channel and seeing how much content you have uploaded to help the rest of the community, I can tell I have much to learn from you. It’s impressive that you even had time to comment here. You have clearly done so much for the modular community and my annoying music is clearly a problem. I know some people would say “but you could just turn off the video or go watch another video...” but you sir you hung in there and handled the pain like a champ. I mean it’s not like this content was free or done in good faith to help others... so I agree the negativity needs to be delivered here directly to me. Because how else will I know that my taste sucks? Luckily... you are here like the true hero you are. I will strive to learn by watching the videos you upload that have so much better content. Hopefully one day I can get on your level Brohard.... one day.

      Ken Flux Pierce Fluxwithit Please don’t take it the wrong way. It was only that one video and that one choice of track that I found annoying, not your review. I did learn further how cool this module is and it’s capability and for that I thank you. I purchased one a month ago and I’m in the process of putting together my Eurorack so I like to see what other artist are doing and look at reviews. Again all I was being negative about was that choice of musical track, not your review or review style.
      I’m new to Eurorack, but I do have an extensive musical background playing Saxophone, Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, NA Flutes, Shakuhachi, Irish Flutes, Chinese Flutes, World Flutes, Nose Flutes, Wind controller, Synthesizers, Hand Percussion, Hand Drums of all types, Handpans. I used to be the leader of the DFW HeartOfTheCedar Flute Circle until health issues caused me to have to turn that roll over to someone else.
      I like all kinds of music especially Electronic, Dubb Step, Trance, Disco, Classical, Jazz, Rick and Roll, pretty much every type with only a few exceptions.
      I’m not a fan of Punk, Head Banger, or especially Rap because so much of it is gansta or vulgar.
      Again my feedback was not meant to be negative about your review content, style or abilities. I found it helpful. I just wasn’t a fan of that music track at all and was suggesting that there must be some track available that would be much more flattering to show off that fantastic Erica Synths Module.
      Thanks,
      James
