  • Michael Jordan shared with First Things First co-host Chris Broussard that he sees similarities with Anthony Edwards' game. Colin Cowherd defends MJ, explaining why the two players should not be compared. More former New England Patriots players expressed their unhappiness with the 'Dynasty' doc, including Rodney Harrison and Devin McCourty, especially with how Bill Belichick was portrayed. Colin reacts to their comments.

Colin is right about MJ as Cultural Phenomenon- he's the god MJ, one of one, who literally Mastered the Game and turned a Sport into an Art Form. You can't compare that to any other athlete.
But he's a Casual when he mentions Anthony Edwards in the same sentence as Blake Griffin. Anyone comparing Anthony Edwards to Blake Griffin is a Casual. Anthony Edwards has a TOTAL GAME in his 4th year as a pro. He can take over a game outside, midrange, inside, and on defense. That is why even the god MJ himself said there are "similarities". He doesn't have the plethora or moves, shots and acrobatics that MJ had but who does? It is enough for MJ to say there are similarities.
There's nothing to be said after that by anyone, especially not these talking heads, and I like Colin's commentary.

I hate how everyone's saying "Jordan averaged 28 as a rookie he's not even close to that yet" People don't realize that Ant entered the league at 19 years old in the middle of the pandemic. Not saying that has anything to do with it but that was an overall weird time to be alive. Jordan entered the league at 21 fresh off 3 years at UNC, he was a more polished player than Ant was. But Ant's now at that age and he's doing MJ things. Is he going to live up to MJ's legacy? Probably not, not even Kobe did. But I think it speaks volumes when a handful of the basketball community, including MJ himself, is comparing him to MJ. That hasn't been said about anyone since Kobe.

The only thing I didn’t like what he did was when he texted that IG model, Paige Jordae, to get an abortion. I guess you can say he just committed abortion on John Collins’ career! 😂
Kobe Bryant and Kawhi Leonard play more like late 90s Michael Jordan while a young Dwyane Wade and Anthony Edwards play like 80s Michael Jordan. I was watching a video where Ewing blocks MJ’s shot. Next play, MJ cleanly blocks Ewing. MJ was VENGEANCE. Only Larry Jordan was better than him he said since Mike copied of all his older brother’s moves.
Anthony Edwards at the age of only 22 needs to be the face of this league. He came in 2 years after Luka and Shai and may get further them in the playoffs by Year 4. You can say I’m an Ant fan to the Ant-Man! He’s the ONE, folks. The young Simba. The young GOAT. The long lost son of Michael Jeffrey Jordan.

What does that mean, exactly? Without the 90s and even 80s, you don't have Jordan. David Thompson co-created the alley-oop in the late 70s I think it was. Jordan calls him an inspiration. And without Jordan you literally have none of the guys who grew up watching and emulating him, from Vince Carter to Kobe, which leads directly to Mr Anthony Edwards. Jordan was an entire Cultural Phenomenon. That's why you're very likely wearing shoes with his name on them. There's no comparison to that. BUT Colin is wrong about Edwards just being another "dunker". Anthony Edwards is the complete package in ways that are very similar to MJ and Kobe.

  • @Triumphator616
    @Triumphator616 Před 2 měsíci

Very bad comparison. I highly disagree with how MJ was great just because fans and athletes from other sports wore his shoes. That's like saying that going to the Moon second time will be even more shocking than the first time.
When something happens once, in this case it's better to say when someone comes along for the first time (MJ) then one can argue that he was the one that opened the gates for the rest of them. Yes there were great players before him, like Russell, Chamberlain, West, but he was the one that truly marketed and upgraded the image of the NBA. The league is already global. How can Anthony Edwards make it better? Perhaps he can, but only marginally because it was established already. That's the same like saying "I'm going to build a brand out of Nike, even though everyone knows about the brand".
Jordan's playstyle was ahead of the time, hence why he dominated. Edwards plays 90% like him, but he can't dominate all the time - sometimes the opposing team just locks him out, it happens. The league is very different, but it pains me that people still see MJ as an untouchable. Yes he was a force to be reckoned with, his terror of the 90s is unmatched, but that's the hype the media create to attract more views and generate cash. You want to make someone more than he is. For now, Jordan is untouchable, so this conversation can be repeated somewhere in 2034, when Edwards will be in his 30s with enough of seasons and chances to prove something. And even if he wins one or two championships by then, I would still argue he can match MJ, just because he has everything MJ has, except more competition. To be able to shine among so many other talented players is all one can ask for. Jordan had a lot less competition, there were rarely any players averaging more than 25ppgs. Most teams in the 90s had 1 or 2 players averaging around 20ppg. Take a look at the worst team this season, the Pistons, you'll see the player stats are very much the same like an average team and even a playoff team from 98/99.
MJ may still be the goat, but I am 100% certain that if he played in today's era he would be there, among top 10 players. He would have had more competition. And like I mentioned, his playstyle was ahead of the time, hence his domination. His playstyle would be great for today's NBA, back then, you could only watch him score on you.
Today's elite defenders move a lot better, better lateral quickness, strengthened ligaments, harder muscular structure, it all contributes to better reaction times. Edwards has a lot to prove, but he's only 22. Jordan's first title was in 91' in his 7th season at the age of 28. In the end, time will tell.

All this attention over a dunk. I appreciate the love for ANT but I don't think you can tell the fans who the next face of the league will be. He doesn't make the top 15 in jersey sales.

“Michael Jordan played against plumbers. He’s not even top 10.” 🤣
LeRoid Dames only defeated TikTokers, DoorDashers, CZcamsrs, podcasters, and YMCA players playing in Venice Beach jacking deep 3s. He’s not a top 1000. He needed to form a superteam in Miami to beat an old af Celtics team. 😂 And steroids to defeat all these 2010/2020 losers looking at their phones all day.
TikTokers and DoorDashers are worse than plumbers. Plumbing is a real job and actually pays much better.

That Dream Team that MJ destroyed in that Monte Carlo game were all a bunch of plumbers. While that overrated 2008 Redeem Team which nobody watched that Netflix doc could barely handle Spain because they were too little. By the 00s, elite bigs went extinct. The 2006 FIBA team with LeBron, DWade, and Melo went lebronze! Kobe had to save them in 2008.
Anthony Edwards will go down as the 2nd greatest player of all-time. He’s actually playing in a similar era as Jordan when bigs rule the league. He’s going to fly over Jokic, Giannis, Embiid, and AD like Jordan did to Shaq, Olajuwon, Ewing, Robinson, Mourning, and Mutombo. Plumbers? That’s funny. Every star before 2000 were plumbers then. Those 00 stars like Kobe couldn’t beat those same 90s plumbers.
From 1992-1998 which includes playoff games, Jordan defeated Shaq 13-6. What did that Shaq Plumber do after MJ retired a second time in January 1999? Once Lakers got Phil Jackson, he went on a threepeat. Michael Jordan is responsible for Kobe Bryant, Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, and Anthony Edwards’ careers. But I guess he has no influence.
Keep calling them plumbers. Your favorite player in your life will still never measure up to Michael Jordan. They will always be looking up to him in stature. I like how Jordan played against plumbers while an unathletic white boy named Austin Reaves gives problems to this new generation of mentally weak players. Giannis can’t even shoot as well as Olajuwon, Robinson, and Ewing, and he’s considered a top 2 player.
