I'm so glad that there's someone out there to call out the older hip-hop heads on their pretentious and elitist behavior. I saw the part of your J.Cole that also did that. They act like anyone who's born after 1994 can't educate themselves on hip-hop. And nothing annoys me more than the ones who just shit on the new-gen altogether while secretly bumping artists like A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti or even Yung Lean and Bladee on the side. It's like having to admit that the new-gen does have at least some things to offer would make them die of a heart attack or something. Like their ego and snobbish mentality is tied to their life force and having to lower it will kill them.

Speaking of the same guy he was wondering who the fuck Jeru & Smoothe Da Hustler were lol. The excuse was like they from NY & over here in Jax we don’t bump that. Actually that’s a terrible excuse, it showcases how uninterested people are in the genre (another reason why Jacksonville rappers suck). Around 95 you got Japanese cats freestyling to Broken Language.

As an old head I can finally say I agree half on this. The non innovated or unoriginal hip hop music is more loved no matter what era your in.. but then again my friends and I never listened to the top ten then or even today's standards... I actually was the guy listening to smoothe the hustler, OC the pharcyde or Herioglyphics. Pretty much college radio that played the true essence of hip hop..(underground) with the being said saying old folks as a whole all rode that top ten wave is false. In hip hop there's purest and spurious listeners or POP-ular or uncommon listeners. Take my son he liked Tyler the creator when he was with Odd future his older stuff.. but now he's not into Tyler anymore because he's more popular.

Just came across this video on your channel and it’s straight facts. I’m 46 and yes that’s how it was back then. I remember playing Mobb Deep, Nas and Pete Rock most dudes didn’t want to hear that. Guys were playing Whatever was on radio. Remember Skee-lo I Wish? That song was bumping every time you walked outside. Coolio, Naughty by Nature and Arrested Development to name a few. Trust me I also listened to this. What saved me from being a casual was college radio. Back then college radio for a lot of people the only way to hear most of those artists. Unless you had cable and could watch Yo! MTV RAPS or Rap City. Growing up I moved a lot so underground radio was my link to hip hop. Plus back then I didn’t even know what underground was shit was just Dope sounding. Remember pause mixtapes from radio? 😂

This just goes to show that songs and what charts don't accurately represent the times at all times...as their are many songs which get represented on the charts, yet don't capture what things were like at the time....some songs may not transcend time via the charts, but at that time, they fit right in....

But the same people today love Griselda, Joey Badass, D Smoke, Jay Elec, Mysonne etc and those people are not charting today. The reason they hold those people up is because they were the ones listening to them back then. Everybody I grew up around listened to Mobb Deep, Big, Pac, Nas, Jay, Wu Tang, Busta, Bone Thugs, LL, Snoop, MOP, Scarface. Those were the stars, Hip Hop wasn’t mainstream, real Hip Hop. We called them ghetto celebs the 112s, the Jagged Edges the Brandy’s Monica’s, Aaliyah’s, the Lost Boys, Juvenile etc. We listened to one Coolio song. That is why they give those exact artist respect now because they did listen to them growing up. There is no other place that the reverence is coming from, but nostalgia because as you stated those people were not running the charts.

I can’t agree with the Warren G slander lol he wasn’t a GOAT level rapper or anything, but he still has songs off his first album like “This DJ” and “Do You See” that still sound great today. Yeah, it was simple, but it worked and I thought he sounded great over his beats, but that’s probably the West Coast in me talking lol

Yo bruh dope video and you've got a new subscriber in me. I got a quick (and somewhat related/ unrelated) question for you. Since you're probably a bigger Live.Love. A$AP fan than myself & have a good ear for production, I was wondering if you could give me a few recommendations of any Houston hip hop that knocks like the Houston influenced beats on Live.Love.A$AP (like Trilla, Purple Swag, Kissin' Pink, etc. I'm a younger nigga from Houston yet I don't know of any of the Houston rappers (new or old) that have production similar to that woozy, screw sounding shit that knocks. I am a fan of UGK (Wood Wheel, Stoned Junkee, Int'l Players Anthem, etc.) all slap, but I'm looking for more of that woozy, dreamy, dark that slaps. If you have any recommendations, thanks in advance!

I appreciate the comment homie! How did you find this channel? Anyway, I think the Houston vibe on Live.Love.ASAP is some next level Houston shit. Not to say that Houston wasn't already coming out with crazy shit, but Rocky's spin on it is unique. At least from what I've heard. One of the biggest Rocky disappointments, aside from not working with Clams Casino more, is not working with Beautiful Lou more (assuming Lou had more heat). The shit Lou gave him was phenomenal. I'm not a specialist on the Houston rap scene. I've skimmed the scene and found very little like what Rocky/Beautiful Lou/ASAP Ty Beats did. But here are some suggestions you should check out (And feel free to post more here if you find so I can learn)
      Paul Wall - Sittin Sideways
Archie Lee & Lester Roy - Money, Cash, Hoes Freestyle
      jay-z - a million and one questions - DJ Screw-Heavy N Tha G
      Lil Flip - Game Over
Slim Thug - I Ain't Heard Of That
      DJ Screw - June 27
Beautiful Lou ft Action Bronson & RiFF RAFF - Long Pinky

Someone post your video of why you don’t like Kendrick. Thought it was a good analysis (I also think he’s a product of Interscope hype) and fucked with your channel since. I also found out that you used to post on The Coli as SirBiatch. I saw that thread that you made about Bass by Rocky was dope, (would love for you to elaborate about more about the track having a “southern bounce” if possible). But yeah, all of those songs that you posted, I’ve heard before. Sittin’ Sideways (along with Still Tippin) were huge in H-Town when I was like 11 & I always loved June 27 and I ain’t heard of that. That Beautiful Lou track was dope, only woozy sounding beat that I can currently think of from a Houston artist would be 25 Lighters. Thank for the reply again.

Nas Biggie Wu Tang Mobb Deep really put east coast on the map and was way more influential and had way better impact around that time period aswell as Tupac.
