Funny how he designed the window that way using the air conditioner as a crutch but also had the genuis idea of putting the air conditioner intake right next to the gas cap.
The air conditioner isn't a crutch. Most people have the AC on and the window down, but the issue with this is that if your AC is blowing colder air than the environment (which it should be) then having the windows down actually warms the vehicle and you rather than cooling it. If your AC is working you should have your windows closed.
That window is specifically designed to ditch your coke when being pulled over. The large glass section is to obscure your face so that the cop will have a harder time telling if you're bumpin or not.
The DeLorean is literally built different. A little while ago I had the pleasure of meeting someone who bought one on a whim and let me sit on it and I got to talk to them for a bit. The most difficult and expensive part of any vehicle is often the doors, and DeLorean was on a budget, starting his own Auto make, so he made the cheapest door possible. The Subaru SVX also has a similar window treatment.
Giorgetto Giugaro did the styling for the DeLorean DMC-12, he is the same person that designed the Subaru SVX that shares the window inside of a window design.
My dad always told me the windows were like that so you could buy coke from a dealer without rolling down the whole window. Idk apperantly there was a rumor John was a big coke head 😂
Random pieces of my knowledge that idk how they ended up in my brain to the rescue! it was actually proven in his autopsy that John in fact was a MASSIVE lover of the white girl🤣it wasn’t the purpose behind the window obviously but I assume the thought came to mind one night whilst in the vehicle lol. have a good one mane!
The issue is not the curvature of the door as manufacturers have used “curved glass” before. The issue instead is the location of the window as it would move down. Both edges of the door move inward towards the bottom of the door which doesn’t allow for a window to fully roll down. This can be found in some four door cars where the back door window doesn’t roll down all the way due to awkward shaped doors.
Back in the day the bank drive thru’s had vacuum tubes where you’d put deposits, etc. inside the tube and send to the bank teller. They measured the length and made sure the tube could fit through the Delorean window which is why it’s this length on the car.
Shit gonna get real lit when your car is stuck in the water cuz the window is so small that all of the cool air barely get out so u gonna be cold the entire time
The glass curvature issue is the real underlying technical reason, but it's also just a stylistic choice. These windows were a hallmark of Ital Design, famous for many iconic concept cars. I used to own a Subaru SVX that had the same windows with the same upper curvature, also designed by them.
When I saw this post, I remembered the advice my grandfather gave me at my Uncle's wedding while we were sitting close to each other next to the Music Band. The music was so loud I couldn't hear what he said.
not being able to open the whole window make me feel a little suffocate-y. like obviously you’d be in no danger of that at all but I just think that not being able to have actual wind on my face and take in a big breath of genuine fresh air would bother me and make me feel like I couldn’t escape lol.
Some aircraft (primarily old ones) have a portion of the window that was able to be temporarily displaced so you could stick a weapon out. Maybe it’s so you can fend off admirers with a stick while still staying as protected as possible
Also another engineering issue is the glass is too big to into the door when you lower the window, so a smaller cutout will allow you to make a window that con fully go down. You see this on the Subaru SVX, and on many cars you will see this in the rear doors, the reason why the rear doors tend to have two windows is because if it was one on many cars they would not be able to make it roll down because it’s too big to fit inside the door
Gotta have some way to hand a cop your credentials if you get pulled over for having a light out or running a stop sign or whatever it is that Deloreans get stopped by law enforcement for.
