  • Paige Bueckers is going to re run it again with Aubrey Griffin. But we wonder who will be the 15th player on the roster as that might hold the key to UConn's title hopes. Will the 15th play on UConn roster be Niki Muhl, Aaliyah Edwards or Emily Rodriguez?

Very moving to see Nika tearing up as she was honored. Great young lady.
And don’t forget how she set the assist record and was the Big East defensive player of the year. With Paige out for so long, she did a lot for the team.

What I would do, as I don't think Geno will play Bettencourt or DeBerry at all next season, is to offer them both a scholastic scholarship and drop them from the team. That way, they can enter the portal if they wish to or stay at UConn with tuition covered.
Athletic scholarships are for one year, so UConn isn't required to renew the scholarship of anyone. I hope the seniors all get the OK from Geno before they say they are coming back for another year.

A fair idea, for sure. But Ines had enough moments, certainly last year, of good play to make her capable of playing more. Certainly, in all the games that UConn tears er opponent, he could play her and rest the starters.

I agree with you about Ines, I'm a fan. Not everybody has to be a star, she is fully capable of getting some minutes, but if she decided to transfer out I would see why. Such a likable kid, and she came here last minute when injuries decimated the roster and they needed another point. I do wish she'd stop all the one handed passes though, looking for trouble. Amari is a different story, just hasn't worked out for whatever reason. That happens. Key to next year is Jana, Huskies need her size in the middle. 6-2 or 6-3 just isn't that big anymore when you're playing a top ten team. This year's team is battling, but man they miss Fudd and Ducharme. Makes you realize how valuable Lou and Dorka were.

I am a season ticket holder and been with UConn for the bad years and the good years. Just my opinion but I think Muhl and Edwards, no NIL money, should probably move on. Edwards would be a top choice in the draft. I like Muhl but I just do not think of her in the WNBA. Best fit for her would be playing Europe. Geno has a long standing policy of not taking scholarships away, which has good points and bad points. Realistically Betencourt and DeBerry should be strongly encouraged to hit the transfer portal. Both could very well be starters in a different program. I think in another video you mentioned the problems that Caroline had when flying overseas from turbulence which prevented her from playing. I am really starting to believe she has taken 1 to many hits to the head. I cannot see a Doctor signing off on her to continue playing. Would really love to see Strong come to UConn.

I agree with almost all you posted, except...DeBerry I've said all this year, get her to go into the transfer portal...A D2 player on a D1 team...Duchamre I'd urge to give retirement a serious thought, health reasons and nearly two years off the court...Her brain is more important...The last is where I disagree...I'm totally on the fence with Fudd and ever seeing her get thru a full year on the court and that goes back to her high school days...I like Bettencourt off the bench and I think with more playing time, her game will round out...Uconn is guard heavy and I'm not sure what's in the transfer portal this year, but if a big showed up and I needed the room, I'd be saying Azzi, hit the portal or stay and get the education we promised, but hand in the uniform...For all her potential, does the team no good to be sitting on the bench in crutches...Now if this last operation on the knee is it, well maybe a mistake to remove her, but if it opens a spot for a good proven player in the transfer portal, I think it's best in the end...

Nika will move on because it is the logical way of doing things, and I believe being logical is one of Nika's best skills. But the problem I see with this is KK Arnold. People seem to hate the comparison between the two, cause KK was a 'star prospect', but they are going to have very similiar deficits, just with different twists. KK ball hogs too much for a freshman and sometimes I am not sure if she has poor court vision or poor judgement on when she should finish and when she should not. Poor outside shooter, very good in transition, but regulary getting blocked on layups by premium guards and centers, does not look very promising. I see issue on point guard position next year, for me it should be Paige, but I belive Geno will try to develop KK. I feel like next year starters should be Paige, Azzi and Shade as guards. KK as a substitute guard, mostly to run in transition and get easy buckets.

Agree with others here, Bettencourt and DeBerry should be encouraged to hit the portal as this is a win for the team and a win for them individually (they will get PT somewhere else, which can only help their BB careers). Caroline needs to stop playing BB all together. Maybe could be converted to a student coach so she can stay with the team, but she is done and i dont think anyone should be encouraging her to continue playing. I don't know why UConn always drafts too many guards- They need some depth at center/power forward for better rebounding and scoring in the paint. Nika is a very underrated player- doesn't she hold some record for assists? I love her attitude- tough gal - but she would be a real star in Europe where the women's game keeps getting better and better. WNBA is not for her. Edwards would only come back for a championship but I think she is WNBA bound. She will do well there- she has become a complete player and power forward would suit her game. Ines B has never been given a chance (De Berry, too) and would benefit from becoming a starter somewhere else. She does play for the Portuguese national team so has a future in Europe in a couple of years. Gino needs to look to recruit more broadly so he has the option to play small or big when needed. They aren't built for a championship yet.

Stop being so sarcastic, UCONN is only back when they are actually on the court and playing injury free. I still think that UCONN needs help from the Portal and DeBerry and Betencourt needs to transfer out too. I'm hoping that Muhl leaves too as she kills us in big games too many turn overs and virtually no scoring.

I guess she really thinks she can win next year huh? I’m sure she knows she has a better chance at going number one next year. Btw even if they do win, I’m sure well the “she needed a 5th year” argument lol just saying.

    • @VecksJanae
      @VecksJanae Před 5 měsíci

She needed a fifth year? She has only played one full year in college. And is playing her second full year now. Ya’ll Carolina country bumpkins be so academically challenged. I see why ya’ll dumb asses ain’t realize the confederate flag was still hanging at your state capital until five minutes ago….😂
counting years she didn’t touch the court just proves how pressed ya’ll are in regard to Paige. There literally isn’t one player that has ever played for ya’ll UConn fans have cared enough about to constantly attack like ya’ll do Paige. Ya’ll have had one first team all American guard in program history and think you are qualified to judge guard talent?
      Stop it.

So Paige was going to be a first round pick in the top 5 but now she risk another knee injury to come back to college. Not a very smart decision on her part risking it all for what?

Who said she couldn’t get hurt again this summer in the W? Can’t play in fear of injury. And to be real, Paige with an injury is still better than 90% of the players in the country so would still be drafted high. And, I don’t think the kid who has to be yelled at to shoot the ball is at all worried about her draft stock.

for all the BS hype, Bueckers will be known to be the only UCONN "great" player to graduate without a title....in 5 years. #overrated

Thanks for expressing how little you know about WCBB. Paige is a UConn great & doesn’t need a NC for her palmares. So a NPOY is overhyped and all the accolades she has received is BS? Biased?
She’s returned after 2 major knee injuries. While not 100% recovered, she’s played admirably this season. Not jumping immediately to the WNBA allows her body to recover and build back up. Next year, the real Paige Bueckers will be on display. Can’t wait to see what disparaging comments you’ll have in store then.

No team in American has had the injuries UConn has had to deal with the past 3 years-not just in the numbers, but in the key players they’ve lost. And yet, in 20-21 they made the Final Four, and in 21-22 the NCAA championship game. Last year the injuries were absurd, but they still won the Big East (granted, not the highest bar to clear, but considering that Geno had only 7-8 healthy players most of the season, it was commendable that they hung together the way they did).
This year they have 5 out, all of which could be starters at most programs (Jana’s age the only question mark)-an incredible amount of talent on the bench. All they lacked this year was good health (more bigs is certainly a fair debate, but with Jana, Aubrey, Ayanna, Caroline and Azzi available, Geno would have had the most talented roster in the country). That doesn’t sound like a dead program to me.
