Just gorgeous. A heads up to Mr. B fans. Beginning September 3, 2020 The Los Angeles jazz institute is hosting a Charlie Parker Centennial Celebration, one of the many bands will be performing music of the Billy Eckstine Orchestra.
Such a huge voice, under perfect control. And it comes from a real gentleman with exquisite taste and style. We won't see any more like him on this earth.
Why, in order to praise the greats of the past, do you find it necessary to take nasty swipes at the present...as if one had anything to do with the other...
As a teenager I looked everywhere for a shirt with a Mr. B Collar (like he is wearing in the pic). I finally found one and wore it out. This guy is one of the truly great singers of his (or any other) time.
Thank you for this post,Masters such as Mr. Eckstine, Mr. Johnny Hartman Mr. Nat Cole Mr. Sammy Davis Jr. we will never have the likes of these great entertainers again . As one post put it this crap today is just that CRAP. Desmond thank you !
He has a very interesting singing style.. when Sammy Davis Jr. used to clown around and imitate him, I wanted to hear for myself, and he was RIGHT ON.!! Honors to the great Sammy and to Mr. Eckstine :)
now i know in 1965 he joined Motown, but what year did he stop recording for Motown. It puzzles me, because i believe he recorded for Mercury, and then Roulette . and who had him after Motown? It's tough for me to nail his discography down. I love the voice though. Still looking for the 1957 stereo I Aplogize from Mercury.
There was, and never will be, anyone, like Billy Eckstine.. He was one of a kind, and pure gold. 💕❤️💕RIP

I love the verse to this and he was one of the few singers who sang it. What a great rendition of the song. Thanks, B, for all you gave us in music.

And it was effortless. You had to see him live to believe it. He could fill a large lounge with that resonant baritone - unamplified.
The best ever, bar none ( Mr. B). I'm glad there was you.
what a voice, glad we have records & CD's to preserve what music was all about...........not the crap today!

RIP Billy.
How greatly missed; the saving grace is having this lovely recording and others. Great music and romance seem somewhat less these days.
Mr. "B" was great
