    At the age of 16 Michael Schenker was already on the tails of Iommi and Blackmore and this is insane! You can clearly hear that this blond kid was destined to the greatness, maybe he didn't pile up millions of dollars like his older brother did (and remember Michael could have make it too if he had chosen one of the dozens of big names that asked him to join them since he left Ufo !) but he's been recognised as an icon in rock history, one of the greatest guitar players of all time and that's what he's always aimed for in the end... God bless you Meister Michael Schenker!

    Those first two Scorpions albums are rare gems among the Heavy Metal genre, in that I still listen to them and they still get me all fired up after all these years. Such wonderful musicianship. There are certainly still moments from the later works that get me excited, but the first two albums each hold up so well as complete works that I had to post something. This is the kind of inspiration that makes music one of the great human endeavors and perhaps after Engineering, and before Politics, music is one of the greatest problem solving human endeavors.

      Kip! Thank YOU, my friend, for providing such excellent musical advice in those days. I still really dig "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", and "Master of Reality" too. Iron Maiden, Motorhead and Judas Priest, Def Leppard. Have you heard this song by "Royal Blood" called "Blood Hands"?

    • @darley1958
      @darley1958 Před 8 lety +8

      +Marty Goddard Truly, that first album rates in my opinion as one of the most breath taking and ground breaking records I ever heard. The bright, lively almost raw sound Schenker got and playing that borders on inspired madness has rarely been equalled, even by Schenker, though he had his moments with UFO. Possibly matched by Sad Wings of Destiny in terms of its impact on me, this album stands alone as one of the great rock records ever made. I treasure it still. The Uli Roth albums are also magnificent.................I recall waiting eagerly for each one to be released at the little record shop I used in Witney, Oxfordshire. Great days.

      @Izno Iznogoud Agreed...Around that time period, Rock was changing, evolving from Acid/Psychedelic Rock, Space Rock, on into Hard Rock/Metal. Bands of this time period are interesting to see the change. Rudolf's brother Michael's band, UFO went through the same change, their first two albums not much like their later music, but still interesting to listen to anyway.

      Really sad later they decided to move for rock pop genre and gain mainstream popularity... They could have shine up to heavy metal hits like Black Sabbath, Dio, Iron Maiden, and similar others of their era...

  • @rudolfschenker

    MS played a Les Paul until right before he joined UFO, the story goes that at a Scorpions gig he broke a string right before a lead break, so Rudy handed him his guitar so he could play the lead, and he fell in love with the V and the sound of Rudy's 50-watt Marshall. Supposedly the UFO guys also offered to buy him a new one to entice him more into joining the band.

    Mom Schenker must be very proud! Thanks for putting these 3 early videos together. Even from these you can tell how talented Michael Schenker and Uli Jon Roth are. Like there was something magical in the water where they grew up. They never sounded like anyone else but both played soaring leads that grabbed me so much I had to tell my friends...listen to this. Scorpions were not played much in U.S. and I got to them via Mcihael Schenker and then just gobbled up those early L.P.'s. Solid.

    To me Speedy's Coming and We'll Burn The Sky is when I think they had turned the corner and were on they way up! It's like the first time I heard Pat Benatar you knew she was going to make it big. Not categorizing her with the Scorpions other than that when I had heard the previous two songs I mentioned i knew it was a matter of a little time and a couple more rockers like that they were starting to turn out and they were going big time then. And that's exactly what happened. And I don't know about you all but all but to me the Scorpions was the band that took kick ass Rock and Roll to the next harder level than anybody else was at the time and that that era in Rock and Roll was when everybody stepped up their game to the next level and I happen to think that a lot of that came from their influence or at least that's what I'll alway think but then I've loved this band from the very first time I ever heard them.

      Prog X, they are talking about the old days (before 1975). The stuff that came out between 74 and 77 was pretty good, but when Lovedrive came out in in 1979 they made their mark on the map as a serious hard rock band. I believe that from 79 to 88 that it was the most powerful music anyone could make in that day and that they were in the same league as Van Halen but they had a much better singer! The stuff that came out between 1990 and 2010 was good, but the 79 to 88 era was off the hook!

    The origins of the Scorpions go back as far as 1965, when they were still on the beat band. Back then Rudolf Schenker sang, until today the only original band member. Footage on Super 8 can be found on CZcams. When Klaus Meine and Michael Schenker joined the band, a completely different, more rocking component came to light. However, that was just the phase of Krautrock, bands like Kraftwerk, Kraan, Can and Amon Düül shaped this direction. So it was not surprising that in the debut album "Lonesome Crow" in 1972 hit the same notch, especially as the record company Brain Records and producer Conny Plank were to be regarded as the greats of this direction. However, already with the follow-up album "Fly To The Rainbow", released in 1974 by RCA Victor and produced by the Scorpions himself, it became clear that one would orient increasingly towards Hard Rock. This documentary by the German television broadcaster WDR traces the way of the Scorpions from the beginning to the climaxes quite well.

    Their early albums were really strange. It's hard to believe that the same band that did songs like Lonesome Crow , Drifting Sun , Longing For Fire, Evening Wind , Yellow Raven and I've Got to Be Free is the same band that did Rock You Like a Hurricane, and Winds of Change. They went from weird psychedelic music to mainstream AOR . Lonesome Crow and Love At First Sting are like Polar opposites. I don't care how many people disagree with me, Animal Magnetism was the last true Scorpions album that retained the classic elements. Klaus Meine used to scream a lot, almost like Dan Mc Cafferty of Nazareth. Blackout was a good album, but to me that was definitely a transition album from the older more dangerous and interesting music to the more formula predictable melodic Hard Rock format. I would consider Blackout an actual Metal album, but all their later albums more AOR Hard Rock
