Ya, it's funny, and I honestly think he's wearing that kind of ironically. Like Justin actually did put in the time to get good and win a ton of actual tournaments but also he's not crazy arrogant or a sore loser, really. If he was really a complete egomaniac he'd never post edits of his matches on YT where he actually loses or does bad or gets frustrated. I think he's basically a good sport and I like seeing both his crazy wins and sometimes losses. He's good for the FGC in that way.
No amount of getting good gets around broken stuff lol.
I mean, he was on the recieving end of one of gaming's most epic moments, you need to be a good sport to not become an absolute meme

For anyone playing the match-up:
- Lariat has crazy upper body invincibility, but not so much lower body. Can go to more sweeps if he's throwing it out a lot, then punish the ending frames of it. If he's anti-airing with it a lot, you can air block and get a punish after sometimes too.
- 6:49 If he goes for activate SPD, the freeze actually stops you from jumping out of the SPD in time' cause it grabs mad fast. Doesn't do that much damage, but it's dangerous if you're low health.
- 7:48 You can counter-activate here, but it has to be reversal timing if he hits meaty green hand. The shadows can cause some weird proxy guard too that messes with your inputs, so letting go of block can make it easier (also riskier).

I have a very simple question, how the hell do you even stop zangief from jumping at you for free? Any activate leads into a counteractivate, and the hitbox on those air normals just crush things on the ground.
@@huevonesunltd It is an instant startup hit animation and he has no hurt box on the first frame for his upper body.

5:49 that's a SFA3 (and CvS2 too) glitch called Kattobi cancel.
Basically, kara-cancelling certain "float" moves such as Zangief's headbutt will "launch" your character in the trajectory of that move. Zangief is the best user of this move, but Rolento and Guy too can make use of this glitch: they'll keep "gliding" in mid-air towards the enemy, then remain frozen similarly to Guile's "statue" glitch in SF2.
Dhalsim and Akuma technically have Kattobi-cancels with their dive kicks too, but these aren't really useful for anything.
Fun fact: *Garuda in SFEX2+* has a similar technique, where he can kara-cancel his 6HK into an excel, and have him essentially start his excel with an instant overhead. This can be seen in his Sample Data combo in Maniac Mode.

Zangief is quick in Alpha and doesn't have a floaty jump, he falls fast. He's so scary to fight because he can take off half your lifebar in the blink of an eye and he can just walk down anyone who tries to zone him with his banishing flat.
I'll always root for a Zangief.

The more I see Old Zangief the more I feel bad for what SFV Zangief ended up being in the early installments, he's still very low in the most recent update but still I think it was way worst before considering how oppressive the high tiers were.
Grapplers are very much capable of defeating a lot their opponents if it’s in the right hands and this Zangief player from Finland pretty much proves it. Still awesome that Justin played some games with the guy.
I love Justin's edits, so hilarious and it's funny to see him struggling with that kind of unexpected players

I had way too much fun playing V-Gief mirrors with friends back in the day. I never had so much fun with the Red Cyclone in any other game before or since! V-Rolento also has a katobi cancel but you'd freeze at the end until someone hits you iirc.
The Saturn and PSP versions STILL deserve ports to modern hardware (especially the latter)if just for completeness sake.

We all meet our match from time to time in SF, favorite game series of all time simply because of the competition factor.
Ive always loved watching Justin play, the way he adapts to any character or any game is watching a master at work.
The fact that hes also a totally chill guy is like a bonus.
seeing Alpha 3 Gief or ST Gief makes me sad because Street Fighter V Gief is such a sad shell of himself.
The age of the Devs should be right around the time Gief was frightening. Their Gief PTSD got triggered
And sf5 is a sad shell of a street fighter. No proximity normals, 3 frame buffer, cookie cutter mixups…what a mess.

Alpha 3 Zangief is why I started playing throw characters.
One of my best personal runs against people on an arcade machine or people in a room was with Alpha 3 Zangief: I went 16 and 0 against four other players one night. Not like tournament level people, but like people who had been playing Street Fighter for at least 9 years by that point in time. It's just scary how good he is in that game. It's kind of scary how good he is, period.
Soon as I saw the thumbnail and read the title i knew the gief player was thompsoni. I posted a match against him on my channel, just a monster. I might as well have been playin with the controller down lol

Come on dude!! Light Banishing Fist is plus on block! That's why you ate so many counters! Also Spinning Lariat's startup has upper to mid-high body invincibility and less startup frames! than Sakura's _"keep away"_ roundhouse so it will get countered a lot!
