Such pure talent! Definitely one of my all time favourites. Luther is a legend just like Michael Jackson, Patti Labelle, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey. Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Celine Dion, Etta James just to name a few Luther is the king of soul he is definitely only one of the few talents I recognise as legendary. I'm 25 now when I was younger I was too young to genuinely understand music I didn't even know who Luther was nor did I want to know him growing up but now that I'm grown and I understand music without a doubt I can honestly say Luther has soul, he has incredible sound, he has pitch, depth and diversity. Luther is absolutely amazing! I love him God rest his soul! Such an incredible humble beautiful character. I miss him.

Yeah, and to think, he started his career for many years as a backing singer for those big names! It's a shame his career was cut short by his health and sudden heart problems at such a young age...but he left his us a wonderful gift and catalogue of music, some of the greatest love ballards ever.

The American soul singer has died at the age of 54. Vandross had suffered a severe stroke two years earlier, from which he never fully recovered. But even in a wheelchair, he continued to record records and in 2004 he received four Grammys for the album "Dance With My Father?" released shortly after the stroke.
Robert Cavanaugh, a spokesman for the JFK Medical Center, the hospital where he died, said Vandross "died peacefully, under the watchful eye of friends, family and his medical staff." Cavanaugh did not disclose the cause of death, noting only that, after the stroke, the singer's health never returned to the same as before, and that he was always "deeply moved" by the expressions of affection received by his fans.
Vandross has always had problems with diabetes, high blood pressure and fluctuating weight. The singer died without leaving any descendants. He never married, nor did he have children.
The great singer, Stevie Wonder, paid tribute to Luther Vandross at his funeral.
