    In a quiet forest filled with egg-shaped boulders and wild boar, get ready for the lowest of lowballs, the highest of high balls and everything in between.
    If you like crimps and slopers, if you like to use balance over power, if you like rough granite and teetering arêtes - Petrohrad in the Czech Republic might just be the bouldering destination for you.
    Is Petrohrad the next Fontainebleau? With a popular annual climbing festival and a big fat guidebook to go with it, it might just be. Watch this video to get started...

    All these boulders do they create any of the holds? As in drill them out wack with a hammer etc?

      @FINMrCurly Před 8 lety +3

      No not anymore. Like 20 years ago made I have seen some of man make holds but now its really NO NO :)

    • @ericbraul6482
      @ericbraul6482 Před 8 lety +5

      Nope, they're all natural holds. Climbers are usually super strict that you can't alter any holds, even if it's just to make them more comfortable.

      @mikolaspopovsky1982 Před 4 lety +1

      Actually yes, lot of holds in Petrohrad are "upgraded"...

      @Landolini Před 6 lety +2

      I've just come back from a trip to petrorhad, literally the only thing that cost money was the gas driving there and since we live fairly close it's only been 20€/person. If you bring food from home and camp in the wild it's not that expensive

      +ejmac11 I'm new to climbing, why would this comment show a lack of knowledge in the sport? I'm genuinely curious. My frame of reference is still faulty. Alex climbed el sendero for North Face. Are Alexes climbs more like 5.12's, or even less than that?

      ZooM ZioN It's a little frustrating when you are new and trying to learn and people say things like this without giving explanations as if it stems from some sort of superiority complex. Sheesh !!

    • @ejmac11
      @ejmac11 Před 8 lety +4

      John D Because whether climbing free solo, or climbing 10 ft off the ground, it's all climbing, it all deserves respect. It's a "new climber" thing to think that climbs that are taller are more worthwhile, I actually used to think this way too. When I first started climbing, I wouldn't even consider bouldering, because I thought it was hilarious that people would just climb a few feet off the ground, but as you mature as a climber, you realize it's just about the purity of the moves. I actually now almost strictly boulder, I like the nature of bouldering much more than climbing routes, but I do a bit of route climbing as well. As you learn more you realize that some of these boulder problems, though only perhaps 5-6moves or less, and maybe 10ft high or less, are as difficult as a 100ft climb, though hard to accurately compare to one another. All climbing is climbing, new ppl are in awe of Alex Honnold, and for good reason, the guy is amazing, but very few ppl are going to be able to do what he does. If you are into free soloists, look up MIchael Reardon, Derek Hersey, Patrick Edlinger(possible misspell|). These guys all free soloed way before Honnold, and did way harder climbs free solo than he has.

  • @MrTomnoll
    @MrTomnoll Před 7 lety +3

    Chalk really needs to be forbidden, and replaced with powdered rice, or a sack of desiccant packets. there is no route finding anymore. its all connect the dots now, and the climbers use chalk even when not necessary out of habit.

    • @Phazaar
      @Phazaar Před 7 lety +2

      That's just people treating the rock insensitively and leaving tick marks etc all over the shop. Unfortunately your experience climbing is likely different from mine. If I don't have a layer of chalk on when I start to climb I won't make it past the second hold. I can literally sweat my hands clean of chalk in less than the time it takes to find a starting foothold.

    • @Phazaar
      @Phazaar Před 7 lety +1

      I'd also be tempted to suggest that if having all *potential* holds highlighted with chalk means you don't have to read your route, you're not climbing anywhere near as hard as you should be.
