- One of Silvertone's Classics, a Jack White favorite. As clean as can be, it smokes. This amp is available for studio rental in Detroit from Toms-Amps.com. Erik Gustafson, Lead Guitarist for The Howling Diablos runs through the available sounds.
Sorry, my camera reverted to the internal sound on this video. - Hudba
thanks for showing this amp in a good light and letting it breathe deeply. its been my main amp recording at home and occasional local gigs. A few mods, and its attained a great versatility without losing its characteristic charm ^_^
i love my 60 year old trash factory
They are fun amps. The extra gain tweak on channel 2 gives more versatility.
Played through one of these in about 1967 or so.
The next time I saw one, Steven Stills was playing his electric through it on the concert stage. Thanks for the video.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Beautiful. Thank you for opening up the amp and not being afraid to show us what it's about !
Really started sounding sweet as you dialed it in better! 👌🏻✌🏻
"Turn it up and let it eat !!!!" I love old Silvertones,,,,
Cool amp!!! Imma buy that Jackson audio pedal!!! Stick it in front of my 1996 Pro Jr!!!
Sounds fantastic!
Excellent demo! Thanks
Erik is a great player and demos every aspect of amps just right.
That tone is undoubtedly white stripes!! Coolest amplifier ever made
Glad you liked it.
@@tomsamps like it? Man it’s definitely my dream amp. An overlooked gem.
These amps were horrible but it seems whatever you did you made it sound pretty good
3:10-3:21 that tone gave me chills!
I just found another one locally with original tubes and speakers still sounding great. Its an earlier 1964 with the brushed metal faceplate, not the shinier chrome looking ones on later 1484’s. I’m now up to (3) 1484’s, (2) 1483’s, and one 1482. Watch out Tom I’m creeping up on ya!! Jk I’m not that crazy yet haha
Tom's Amps LLC Lol, right? The 1485 seems to be the toughest one to find for a bargain...Haven’t ever really seen a full piggyback 1485 set for less than $1000... the 1484’s however...I’ve gotten lucky, 2 of my minty ones basically equaled the cost of one good condition one... 2 is better than 1, and 3 is better than 2 😆
@@TheNohcim I got the earlier combo version
These were really great amplifiers and they sell them at the Sears stores I Although most of the Sears stores are out of business nowadays and they were one the first to have payment plans you put $10 down pay 10 bucks a month and you could walk out of the store with a brand new amplifier and if you lived out in the middle of nowhere on the farm you could order a Sears amplifier or a Sears guitar they were called Silvertone guitars and amplifiers in about four days later you had a brand new guitar amplifier awesome man I think they build all the stuff in Chicago Illinois they were built by the harmony guitar company💰💰💰💰💰🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
No they were built by Danelectro in New Jersey
@@mohamedtlass3842 not everything, sears had a reputation for sourcing products from lots of different manufacturers. harmony, danelectro and national/valco all made silvertone-branded instruments and amplifiers for sears as well as other retailers.
@@marzsit9833 I’ve yet to see a valco made for Sears
How do you produce the gain in these video's, do you use pedals, or do you just crank the amp? Totally love the amp and your playing, currently figuring out the possibilities, about this beauty.
Crank them up! I carefully select tube amps that break up nicely on their own without blowing you out of the room. (1485 aside!). A lot of non-12AX7 pre-amps and power tube arrangements that don't sound the same as current designs. Great studio amps and yep, love Erik's playing.
All of our amp demos are done with the guitar and the amp, nothing else. Trying not to color the sound beyond what the guitar does. The pickups on Erik's stock 1971 Thinline Tele do pack a punch. Not to say adding pedals isn't fun, just trying to show the amps as they are.
It was a day of celebration when my 1484 arrived from Sears, the next celebration was the day I sold it.
I've had one of these for a few years now but I'm selling it tomorrow morning.
Why did you sell it? Looking at one of these,, are they worth the hype or just another old amp?
I have too many other old Fender amps that I gig with.
IMHO These are not just another old amp. They sound distinctive and have a great sound - just listen to this one! Not roadworthy without re-cabinet job, that is why we do studio rentals from our collection. Like any amp it comes down to what the buyer likes, what else they have, $, space....This one has the head and cab permanently separated and nominalized at 8 ohms for convenience and flexibility. Use the head with its cab or any 8/16 ohm cab, use the cab with any 8 ohm head.
This amp was on par with the Bassman Amp when played with guitar .Why didnt Danolectric put a descent reverb in it ?
I don't think they knew what a good reverb was.
Hello, I have purchased a Silvertone 1485, and I am absolutely in love with it. However, I am a bedroom player and looking for a nice breakup without blowing my house down. How does the volume of the 1484 compare to the 1485? Could I crank the 1484 in my bedroom? And if not, would the 1483 be a healthy alternative?
The 1484 has a lot less power. A 1485 at 4 has roughly the same volume as a 1484 dimed. Our 1485 demo was done on 3 instead of dimed like we do with all our other amps. Just way too loud. But a cranked 1484 is not quiet either. You might consider a 1482 for bedroom use as you should be able to dime it without bothering too many. Enjoy!
buy an attenuator. That'll let you keep the amp and also save some money.
@@drayton1349 but with these amps aside from the head and cabinet versions it would require unsoldering speaker and ruining the originality...
I have the same amp and it doesn't look like your using any pedal to get distortion. What may be wrong with my amp if there is no natural distortion?
Hi David. The amp is up at 10 for starters and Erik's Tele has the punchy 1972 pickups. Second, one of my amp techs, Dean Zink, did Jack White's 1484 and 1485. He gave me the same small mod on the channel 2 treble pot which produces a lot more gain as you turn up the treble. Note the comments from Erik and myself about that in the video. Glad you like it, Dean is a great tech.

Do they sell these at long and McQuade? Where did you get this amp?
Sorry, don't know about Long and McQuade. Craigslist purchase. My amp tech did Jack White's amps and he put the same gain mod on the treble pot on this one.
Tom's Amps LLC does he have an email ive got one of these that ive been looking to mod but don’t have the technical know how to do so
lucky my first amp 1970 .. mic is out of range !
Placement is not standard, but we tried several positions and liked the sound from this one.
Ihave Dano DS 100, TRY IT when y-jacked
