    This guy and Motor City Mechanic have the absolute best of 4th gen ram repair videos. Great work man I'm here after watching your thermostat and water pump videos. I can't thank you enough for this content.

    Your videos are always very informative. I trust what you say. When I get a 5th Wheel, I will be buying a Ram Dually. Thanks, I learned a lot!

    Awesome video (as usual) This reminds me to check out our motorhome's tires and see if they are wearing evenly. I've always wondered about the rotation pattern with duallies, thanks for sharing Tom!

    LOL. I wrote out a long comment regarding tire rotation, belts and slippage (as well as risk of blowouts) if you rotated in such a way as to change the rotation - and then you talked about it. HAHA. (So I deleted that comment) Good video. Always good to rotate the tires to encourage even tread wear. Safe travels, y'all!

    Hey Tom, good thorough job of covering tire rotation. One other thing that might bite you is that the dual rear tires can be different size with the same rim type and size. I drove one for a while that had wider tires on the dual wheels than on the front. That is pretty subtle and could be easily missed.

    I just wish it were that easy with my 6 37's by 13 and 1/2 and American force wheels.. although I do have a super single on the front it would still look really funny if I rotated these.

    Any setup of the extenders? Looking at just the wheel master valve extenders. Just the straight or 45* angle ones that get that inner valve closer to the hole

  • @caseybalvert3547
    @caseybalvert3547 Před 2 lety

    If a tire is wearing on both shoulders, it usually means that tire is underinflated. If it wears in the center it usually means overinflation. When my truck is loaded with my fifth wheel I use the pressures on the door sticker. Unloaded, I use the load inflation tables for that particular tire after putting the truck on the scale. In my 21 Ram diesel I put 65 in front and 35 in the rear duals based on the load on each tire.. As far as rotation, I have aluminum rims and just rotate the fronts from side to side. I leave the rear duals alone unless there is abnormal tire wear. Works for me.

    Question Tom: When you move the OUTSIDE rear tire to either the front or the inside Rear, aren't you reversing the direction of the tire, due to the fact that the recess in the rim is reversed.

  • @mikemiller9119

    The tires on the rear have to have the same tire tread depth. If one is morn worn, it can cause the tire to wear very quickly.

    Hey Tom.
    I'm not a diesel Machanic but I do work on tires for a living. I'm curious, if the tire information placard on the inside door jam of the drivers door, suggests a higher amount of air then the front, which in most cases it does... would you suggest going against the manufacturers design and suggestions and just put a higher amount of air in the front anyways?

    • @MortonsontheMove
      @MortonsontheMove  Před 5 lety

      The truck runs true and the shoulder wear is even on both sides of the tire and both tires so I think it is just normal. The shoulders take a lot more wear up front from turns, especially when loaded.

    I have gotten 72k out of multiple sets of tires including all terrain Toyo and Michelin. Towing 95% of the time with a 40’ cargo trailer. Yes you are correct in they need to be rotated, any is better than none. Don’t wait until you notice wear, do it before the wear occurs. Front to inside rear inside to outside and outside to front.
    The inside rear is going to be the truest level wear of any tire position on a DRW truck.

    Have always been told that radial ply tires, on 4-tire systems mind you, should NOT be swapped side to side, preserving the rotational direction... thoughts???

    • @MortonsontheMove
      @MortonsontheMove  Před 5 lety

      personally i dont think it matters for the sake of causing a failure... they are all build symmetrical and should not have a problem spinning the other way. Typically directional tires have more to do with the tread pattern and if the tire is directional then yes they all need to go the correct direction.

    The problem with aluminum rims is, in most cases, the front outer wheel is polished while the rear inner wheel is polished. You can't put the front on the rear with out reversing the wheel thus the non-polished sides will show.

  • @diamondgtransport5181
    @diamondgtransport5181 Před 2 lety

    If you put a front tire next to a dual and the tread depth is lower or wore camber it will wear the higher one down to match and will cause the truck to sway all over road and that’s not safe. Some guys say break the tires down and move the front to the back but how do you justify which one you put back to the front the inside one or the outside one either way if the tires aren’t the same they’re gonna wear one out of match the other one it’s hard on bearings you should just switch them from side to side that is enough on a solid axle pick up truck front and back that is enough to rotate if you’ve got camber problems and you need to rotate like that then you should fix your camera problems

  • @tumbleweedking5668
    @tumbleweedking5668 Před 5 lety +3

    Lucky your truck has steel rims, with the alloy wheels you have to break them down and re mount and re balance $ 100 at discount tire. The alloy wheels have only one side polished so you can't move them front to back.
