While I have never had anything against ABBA, I just never a fan of theirs. I will say this is by far a better version than their original.

Maybe the singer doesn't want people to think he's gay. Or they want to emulate a time period where people were afraid of the gay.
Maybe they didn't realize that gay men could be gold diggers too and they wrongly assume that they needed to re-contextualize the song a different way. Maybe they assumed the gold digging dynamic couldn't work if there wasn't a gender pay gap. But gender is just one of many factors that influence pay. So it could work to re-contextualize the song to just gold-digging and pay gaps in general without a gender dynamic.
Yet if was sung by a man about trying to get a man, you could also interpret getting a wealthy man as just getting a wealthy investor or benefactor and not necessarily a lover/ sugar daddy.
Maybe they just thought a man's search for more money through a personal career fit some kind of 1930s struggling businessman vibes. Maybe they were going for something like "If I were a rich man" from Fiddler on the Roof.
