- Just in time for All Saints' Day on 1st November, here's a Tuba-licious improvisation using the amazing Mascioni Organ in Alessandria, sampled for Hauptwerk from Piotr Grabowski. Sine Nomine - For All The Saints - is one of the best known hymn tunes in the world. Composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams in 1906, this very British melody lends itself perfectly to Vaughan Williams style harmonies and meandering ideas. See what you think!

❤️❤️Exceptional Fraser G. 👏❤️❤️❤️
My Episcopal church in California celebrates All Saints Day on this coming Sunday
Ein wundervolles Stück!
Grüßt euch, Jan hier. 😊
Ich will mir Orgel selbst beibringen, völlig autodidaktisch.
Meine Frage:
Wie komme ich in Kirchen an die Orgeln, damit mein Traum endlich wahr wird?
Schöne und kurzweilige Improvisation. Ich konnte kaum glauben, daß die so lang ist.
A wonderful improvisation, Fraser, with some subtle nods to the gorgeous harmonic language that is the Vaughan Williams trademark: bravo!
(Significantly, this was not the original music set to the "For all the Saints" text by the Anglican Bishop of Wakefield, William Walsham How, in 1864. When Vaughan Williams wrote this tune for the 1906 'English Hymnal', he named it 'Sine Nomine' ("without name") in a tradition which followed from the Renaissance period of naming certain compositions 'Sine Nomine' if they were not settings for pre-existing tunes. How you teased us with the untold stories shared by your Great Aunt with you! There is the irony, of course, that Vaughan Williams’s dedication to hymnody had little to do with conventional religious faith. From his university years, he was a convinced atheist, and he only ‘later drifted into a cheerful agnosticism [and] was never a professing Christian’, as his daughter, Ursula, noted in 1964. Ralph's attraction to hymnody lay in the opportunities it presented to forward his 'English' agenda as he was concerned that English composers’ grounding in continental European styles was at least partially responsible for the ‘languishing and sentimental hymn tunes’ of the Victorian period! His mission became one to replace them with music that was ‘vigorous and bright’ and in that sense, 'Sine Nomine' has deservedly become a much-loved triumph!)
Fraser, you have out done yourself. This is one of my all time favorite hymns! BRAVO 👏
Hi ,its an really nice organ you got now at home. Will there ever be again a visit on an organ in a church anymore?
Lovely piece of music. Perfect for today. Fraser, take care and fingers crossed 🤞 we need you around. 👍👍
sehr schön gespielt
Klingt wunderbar! Die Orgel ist das einzigste Instrument was so eine klangliche Vielfalt und klangliche Kraft und Harmonie hat
Cant mistake the Alesandria Organ. A superb instrument.
My favorite performance of this hymn was on a glorious Decca /Argo album “ I Was Glad,” performed by the Canterbury Cathedral Choir/organ with Alan Wicks, accompanied by the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble. They performed all the verses, which is rarely found on recordings. The rest of the anthems/hymns were excellent as well, and can occasionally be found on compilation recordings, but, alas, never Sine Nomine.
Bravo and and thank you!!!!!
THIS is awesome!
What a marvellous tour of colours, harmony, and TOOOOOBA! Happy All Saints' Day!
Can't beat a bit of VW harmonies to spice up your day!
Fraser, I love your music!!!!
This is one of the best improvisations I have ever heard. That first section was particularly mindblowing.
Magnifique!
Now that was spectacular 🎼🎹🎹👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🎹🎹 Thank you Fraser for this amazing performance 👍👍
Great music and amazing player !
Great playing!
Very inspiring! Thank you!
Hope you feel better soon ...
PS - I like the Schalkwijk lighting effects.
The tone of Alessandria's Tuba sounds beautiful~ Thank you for playing beautifully this piece that is perfect for All Saints' Day!
😊😊👍👍
Brilliant Fraser! As usual, you never cease to amaze!
Cool!
Some interesting noodling. It sounded at times like you were channeling Messien and managed to remove all the triumphalism that RVW instilled in the piece.
Vaughan Williams dabbled with those harmonic movements later in life - see his Serenade to Music for similar delicious harmonies!
Isn’t the Serenade based on a theme by Thomas Tallis? That was my introduction eons ago to This composer’s work. I found it and still do to be mystically beautiful.
is there a website where we can tlak to other pipe organ fans and post videos to . whats the website called
Sore throat? Hope you don't have "Mild COVID". I had it eventhough I had the two initial vaccinations plus the booster. Get some self test kits. Good luck to you and Vanessa.
Robert Varner, I just about guarantee you that it's weather change and all he needs is some hot tea, which is good for the throat. He could also warm up some lemon juice and just gargle it and spit it out and repeat it . He can also have some hot soup, like chicken noodle or beef soup, and another remedy would be to sit down in a very warm bathtub of water and let the steam warm him up and his body and it will swat it out and he can breath in the steam. These are just remedies that anyone can do.
@@williammitchell1864 Just saying. I had a sore throat but no fever about three weeks ago and then tested positive for COVID. So I self isolated for ten days. Currently testing negative for COVID. BTW I just made a big batch of chicken soup. I also am a big tea drinker. Hydration is very important.
I too had similar symptoms at the end of June and fortunately had test kits at home and I was indeed positive for Covid, right when the lOmega BA5 variant became the primary infectious agent. My doctor prescribed Paxlovid which is a wonderful antiviral. Must be taken within 5 days of symptom onset. I don’t know if it’s available in Germany. Here it’s produced by Pfizer and is made available to us for free from our government. Please Fraser take care of yourself.

Sehr schöne Improvisation, aber sind wieder Orgelbesuchsvideos in Aussicht? Die fehlen mir ein bisschen...
um machst du eig keine deutschen viedeos
I am sorry but that is the organ sound I do not like. It is like over-cooked food: mushy and inedible.
