    0:41 - 0:50 the horse just got out of control and ran away with her. Don't know if she'll see this, how long ago it was or if she even rides that horse anymore but if this happens drop one hand - relax the rein but don't let go of it and pull the other hand straight to your hip, the horse will be forced to then turn into a tight circle and will have to stop. sit in your saddle, lock in with your legs, sit up straight, shoulders back, drop one hand (either one)pull the other to hip. Don't scream or wave your arms/legs about. try aviod an emergency dismount here because at those speeds it's really dangerous. Hope this helps any of you fellow riders to keep control of your ponies😂I use this method. if you want any advice either look it up or you are more than welcome to ask me

      Just do an emergency stop (left hand crosses and pushes into the horse's neck and the right hand crosses over and pulls, they cannot move forward. It's a basic skill that needs to be taught more.

      @esmayspreyer2238 Před 3 lety +1

      @@amygamer3186 ik this comment is from a long time ago so I hope you have done some more research around this area but horses aren't put down with a broken leg because they are 'useless' they are put down due to the fact that the tendons and nerves around their legs normally become severed from a sharp piece of bone and so cannot heal properly and will not be able to put any weight on the leg. If a horse cannot move around or use the leg laminitis, which is extremely painful for the horse, can develop as well as abscesses. They put the horse down because it would be in a lot of pain and would not be able to live a good quality of life so it's more humane for the horse to be put down. However, in some cases the horse can actually use it's leg and can heal and won't be put down it would most likely be retired as it would be unsafe for the horse to race anymore. In recent years, due to advanced technology and medicine, veterinarians are actually looking at ways that don't result in the horse being put down. It's a common misconception that the reason the horse is put down is because it's 'useless' which is not the case with a lot of riders as they love and care for their horse. I will agree there are some bad riders out there that wouldn't look further than just putting it down.

      BriaEquestrian yes but the horse was in horrid pain. Horses don’t flip over violently shaking their head for nothing. I’m not saying that all bits are bad but pain from the bit is what causes horses to do that MOST of the time

      @BriaEquestrian Před 4 lety

      Charlotte :D And Jacob i cant speak for the rider because i dont know what caused the horse to act like that, but judging only from the video, the horse jumped up in excitement for its run and pulled against the person holding him. then the rider tried to balance off his mouth, which obviously isnt the best method but she was reacting out of fear. and i will stand by my opinion on bits til the end of the day, bit isnt what caused the pain, the pressure applied by the riders hands or the person holding his is what caused the pain. im not focusing on the bad in that video, i was focusing on the good in the reaction of the people around.

    Note: the horse racing videos are all steeplechase. I don't see any flat racing videos, just steeplechasing... Besides according to the JC breakdowns (in flat racing) have decreased by more than 4% in just one year.

      it would be but normally it is an instinctual thing to hold on to something if you are falling :)

      Yeah I do agree but it's instinct and reflex, it's happened to me before and you don't realise what you're doing with your hands at the time, but as long as once you're down/ back on the horse and safe just make sure you let go and check the horse is okay

      Super late reply, but pretty much any riding instructor will tell you to absolutely drop your reins when you fall. Especially if you're in an arena where the horse will be contained. It may be an instinct to hold on to something, but reins aren't exactly a stable thing to use for support so that's always seemed like a lousy excuse to me, personally. When in doubt, grab mane lol

    When horses just take off people tend to kinda abort. I ride an OTTB at my barn and after jumps he always takes off. Just gotta dig your heels down, and sit back. Anything to stay on. Also gs ur in an enclosed area and ur horse isn’t aggressively bucking, try to stay on. Aborting at those speeds can be way worse than staying on.

    Hi there. I am 26 years old. I have been my entire life with horses and cows. I am 4th generation horse and cows breeder. Where I come from riding is pretty easy most children start at age 6 or 7 pretty young cause they need to help on the labours on the farms or with the cows as they grow I know it's pretty young but it is what it is. The diffucult part is to go and catch the wild horses and break them down. Here horses are different cause they are their entire life running wild until we have to go and catch them and slowly start breaking them down. They are specially wild and dangerous cause they have been all this time in the wild not in stables or closed to people. Horses are very fine and amazing animals but you gotta be careful cause they are animals and can be unpredictable. I felt bad for the horse with the broken leg. People create races with obstacles for what? To make it more fun? But it's more dangerous for both the person and the horse. I had a friend who died many years ago when we were just some kids. I think he was 9 or 10 years old he was older than me. He took his dads horse and fell and his foot got stuck in the stirrup and he got hit by the horse in his head and died inmediatly. Also with the years I have learnt only tu put the tip of my foot not the entire foot in the stirrup in case you fall you can take your foot out. I felt many times breaking a horse, herding our cows on uneven terrain and with rocks or because the horse got scared. You still gonna fall and hurt yourself but it's less dangerous. I ride pretty much everyday for fun, as a transport or for herding our cows. Also sorry for my grammer English is not my native lenguage.
