I mostly agree, although I would've put Rudy a lot higher personally. The build-up to him was done really well, and he actually is an active antagonist before the final battle, as he chases Sid for a bit around the middle of the movie, even if we still don't see him. I am admittedly a massive dinosaur fan, so the fact that he's a big scary dinosaur naturally makes me a bit biased towards him
I'm also a huge dinosaur nerd and fan so I agree with you 100%
God i loved rudy when i was younger
@@PumpkinHead-jt3vx😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊p2²
He's the best character cuz he doesn't talk
I love villains who are hinted toward throughout the movie without actually showing up until around the end. It makes them more intimidating and threatening, seeing the real villain after only knowing about them through stories or vague artwork.
I like how you acknowledge how opinions aren’t always set in stone.
Me too
Backhanded way to say he's wrong but okay
@@BigPenstroker or maybe he’s just saying that he likes how he acknowledges that opinions are not set in stone?
Not everything on the internet is people trying to get one over on each other.
Small note: the lollipops Big Boss had were most likely a stand-in for cigars or cigarettes, to make it more kid-friendly
I've seen this thing for a while now, from Sanji's cigarette being turned into one thanks to 4Kidz in One Piece to Inspector Badd, from Ace Attorney Investigations, an established badass as his name implies, sucking on one the whole time.
I kinda like Big Boss as great obstacle rather than a villain, there two different things because he's the reason why I should care for birds because he is threatening symbol of destruction- not a villain.
I rank him higher if list based on destruction rather than being a lovable villain- Robots and horton villains are too likable for me it feel like a nuanced anti-heros that wanted best for society.
I WAS JUST THINKING THE SAME THING AND WAS GONNA COMMENT THAT
Thank you for putting Mandrake so high, he is what i remember the most about the "Epic" Movie. I loved that they make him a caring father instead of an abusive one, it really gives him a little more dimension to his character. I would have loved to see more of him in the movie.
bro same. him and ronin were the highlight and most memorable parts of the movie for me, though that may be also due to the fact that i crushed on both as a kid LMAO
I used to watch that movie on loop lmao i need to watch it again
@@mayorkoopbob🤨
@@mayorkoopbob fr they made most of the male characters so weirdly attractive 😂
You can be an intimidating villain without being an abusive parent or a heartless monster. Mandrake and Killian are perfect examples of villains who are evil, who don't get redeemed and aren't "misunderstood" but are still people, which makes them so much more interesting than any "they're just misunderstood" characters.
I agree that Captain Gutt is a great villain! He’s basically Soto done right by having more screen time, more interactions with the main characters, and a more fun and enjoyable personality. Also, Peter Dinklage is a godsend!
In my opinion the worst thing about him is that god damn song that happens and it gets stuck in my head for days

@@N-GinAndTonicTM WELL I DONT WANNA GLOAT BUT I WOULD LIKE TO NOTE THAT YOUR IN LUCK
YOUVE BEEN SAVED BY THE APE THAT RULES THESE WATERS

He was the only good thing about that movie. A true saving grace!
I never interpret that scene as Sour Kangaroo actually considering sacrificing her son. When we see Vlad making that suggestion, we see her having a worry expression. To me, that line was just her planning on how to manipulate Vlad without having to sacrifice her own son.
Doesn’t sour kangaroo have another name? Jane Sour Roo or something? I know I have something to do with the name Jane. That’s the point. Is that true?
Nigel definitely is a weird character when you really think about it with the facts the film takes place in Brazil sulphur crested cockatoos are Australian Nigel himself is portrayed as British and he is voiced by a New Zealander
I mean yeah, but i don't find it any weirder than the season of power rangers that were made when Disney had control over the property. For example, there's a character that's supposed to be american, but has a british accent and is played by a new zealand actor in power rangers mystic force( as a note the power rangers under Disney were filmed in New Zealand and also used New Zealand actors.)
Maybe he was brought over specially from the UK?
I completely agree with Killian being number 1. He’s the only Bluesky antagonist that managed to give me goosebumps. It may not be my favourite Bluesky film (hi Peanuts) but Spies in Disguise was a great movie (and a great swan song for the studio since it was sadly their last before the mouse bought them).
Plus I really like his Australian accent as that is just awesome
In the trailer they made him look even more intimidating than in the movie
That doesn’t mean he’s bad though
I LOVE KILLIAN SO MUCH
he also kinda 😳
@@williampulfer-melville8536He sounds like Director Krenic, who is also a great villain.
Thanks for ranking Nigel so high! He’s easily my number one favourite Blue Sky villain thanks to his intimidating design, wicked personality, and Jemaine Clement’s sensational vocal performance!
“I will make you ugly… *TOO!”*
19:19 - It also helps that Jim Broadbent, whom you may know him as characters with soft and sweet voices, provided the voice to the villainess. You can tell how much fun he's having in the role.
It's also hard to believe it's Jim Broadbent since he doesn't voice Madame gasket with his natural British accent
Not to be confiused by Jimmy Broadbent
What adds to Gutt’s charm is the fact that he’s played by a perfectly cast Peter Dinklage. Dinklage is great at playing quirky villains.
Peter Dinklage is quite an ironic casting choice seeing as Gutt is a gigantopithecus which were probably one of the largest species of great ape that ever lived and Peter Dinklage himself is really short
@@williampulfer-melville8536
Oh yes.
@@thomasspongeconductor2222 that's what I think makes it all the more amusing
@@williampulfer-melville8536 oh the irony
Because he is a quirky villain
I will never forgive BlueSky for not doing more with Mandrake and the Boggans. They were always so much more intriguing and interesting to me than "the good guys" when I first watched the film as a kid.
24:34 I ADORE this scene. If the whole movie had focused on this conflict between Manny and Gutt, instead of juggling so many plot lines; I’d have zero problem calling this my favorite Ice Age sequel.
And yeah, I adore Madam Gasket, she’s pure evil and she owns it from her first appearance to her demise. I hope Disney doesn’t give Robots a sequel, not only because of the downgrade Adventures of Buck Wild suffered; but also because there I don’t think there’s any way they’re topping her
Definitely have to agree there. Their dynamic was really awesome I thought!
the fun part of the red baron is that they actually existed, he isnt just a random pilot made for snoopy’s story, hes Manfred von Richthofen, an ace-of-aces
🎶 And he's flying... HIGHER! THE KING OF THE SKIES! THE LEGEND WILL NEVER DIE! 🎶
Really, really pleased to see Cretaceous and Maelstrom so high on this list! I've always loved those two for their sick designs, genuine creepiness, and the real threat they pose to the protagonists. Despite their short screen time and lack of dialogue, they absolutely made a lasting impression on me. I LOVE everything you said about them serving as physical manifestations of Manny's fears - he worries about being the last of his kind while they really ARE the last of their kinds - and being almost like ghosts from a previous age, returned to haunt the species that have usurped them. I have no idea if the screenwriters actually intended all that symbolism/parallelism to be there, but idec, it's so good. I unironically love them and it makes me smile to see that others do too!
And of course, we would remissed not to mention that really dark, sudden on-screen kill.
@@mauriciogarcia4795 Ikr? That really freaked out my little sister when we first watched it, but 12-year-old me thought it was awesome. XD
I am so glad Killian got so high on the list, since I adore how much the movie handled the theme of violent justice, and how flawed it is when it spawns people like Killian who has all the motivation to avenge both himself, as well as his people
😊😅
It’s honestly kind of frightening how much the Sour Kangaroo serves as a pretty good cautionary tale against those with very strict ideals of what is and what isn’t, and instead of accepting the reality that our understanding of the world is constantly changing, clings vicariously to their old understanding of things and goes on the war path to demonize any and all who don’t stick to their exact beliefs.
It’s a message that unfortunately is very relevant these days and can apply to all sorts of contemporary issues.
In my personal opinion I believe that Gasket has the most brutal death due to how while Soto was impaled she was melted down, seemingly slowly enough where everything else melts first and whatever part gives them sentience melts last due to extra protection
I think why Big Boss has a lollipop is that it's a joke on how bosses smoke cigars.
Honestly thinking about the Dinobrids from Collison Course, they feeld like they belong in a Land Before Time sequel which even AniMat points it out in his Top 10 Worst Ice Age Characters video.
I'm really happy/grateful you ranked Mandrake as high as you did on this list. So many people don't even remember that Epic even exists but I've always loved how he was a villain who genuinely cared for his son and people.
I do agree it would've been great if the film used him more but with the pacing and how we were already learning about the leaf men's cultures as well, I can't see how they could do that without just going into full on out of place exposition dumping. We did still get the idea that he's had a long rivalry with Ronan and even the hint that he was the one who killed Nod's dad, so there is still plenty of depth there.
This movie really needed a sequel (or prequel) istg 😭
I think you forgot to mention the personal rivalry between Mandrake and Ronin, during battle where his son Dagda was killed by Ronin,Mandrake managed to kill the queen of the forest someone Ronin was very close to
Any chance you may do a ranking of villains from Nickelodeon movies? There's quite a number of them, and they vary in how great or lacking they are.
I haven't watched many Blue Sky films, but the best ones I've seen would be 'The Peanuts Movie', 'Robots', and 'Ice Age 1 & 3'.
Seeing the entry on Sour Kangaroo had me wonder if she would be a Karen. Yeah probably. I could see her being one or at least she emits Karen energy if that makes sense.
She’s basically a racist white mom who tries to stop her kid any time he starts realizing the different people aren’t so bad (at least until the end where she finally gets better).
Yeah she’s definitely Karen material
she annoying yes but not scary as big boss or Rudi for me [I like villain being destructive obstacles]
@@andreafraustoz I meant what I said more as a joke.
I hate Karens
@@kidprime6863 Yeah, Karens tend to suck
Madame Gasket would've been my number 1 choice. Her design is brilliant and her plan is pretty disturbing when you think about it...
I love how Ratchet wanted to do all the evil corporate philosophy stuff and Gasket just wanted to burn shit for the fun of it. Great duo
She's like Cruella De Ville, but instead of puppies she wants to wear poor people.
Cretaceous and Melstrom I had actually forgotten about since it's been so long since I've seen Ice Age 2, but all of their scenes, especially their first one always scared me as a kid!
These villains sure seemed like a rough ranking, and it seems even some of the lesser Blue Sky Studios movies (mainly Ferdinand and Ice Age 4) have great antagonists.
I would’ve put the Red Baron near the top, personally. I know he has no bearing on the A plot and is a figment of Snoopy’s imagination, but in the context of that story he’s an incredibly mysterious and unique villain. Honestly pretty badass.
10:20 I have always been convinced she was acting or thinking a way to act. Keeping it cool. She never would consider to trade her boy in exchange for an 'imaginary' flower.
Tbh both the human Rio villains may not have been the most "interesting" villains but of course they are the most common type of people
Honestly, Rudy's #1 for me. He's truly terrifying. He's over 120ft fall, has human iq and is just overall intimidating. Especially in the canopy scene.
Anyone else thinks Christoph Waltz should do more animated movies
Epic is a movie that even ten years after it's released and after I watched it, I still love it and I can't explain fully why. Maybe it's the fantasy aspect, maybe it's the fact that now I know how much historical evidence there is in the fighting techniques of the Leafmen, I don't know, but I love it nonetheless
Oh lord I hated the Ice Age 2 villains so much😭 I have a horrible phobia of huge bodies of water and it terrified me as a child.
13:58 somthing I always loved About ratchets Speech as a kid is that it could be used in reverse.
Why be you? when you can be new!
Why be new? when you can be you?
Sour kangaroo should have been named Karen
In the original animated short based on Horton Hears a Who she was actually given the name Jane
You should rank the dreamworks villains
That would be a very long video
Shen and Fairy Godmother better be in the top 2!
Now that I think about it, Sony villains would be better since they have significantly less movies
Gallaxhar better not be near the bottom
I would have kicked and screamed if Gutt wasn't at least Top 5.
Peter Dinklage absolutely steals the show every time he pops up; and Gutt is the one redeeming quality about Continental Drift.
The girl sabertooth was also an okay character I think. Not nearly as good as Gutt tho.
Also ngl, his villain song slaps
Was not expecting that number 1 reveal! Just awesome!
8:36 I personally think Madame Gasket’s death might have been more gruesome than Soto’s.
Also, 17:07 It’s not really animal rights so much as it is a PSA on bull fighting; animal rights activists want people and animals to have *literally nothing* to do with each other, *including* pets and seeing eye dogs.
Mandrake should be allowed to monologue. He's Hans Landa in bug form!
5:12 "He's ruthless, aggressive, tactical and imposing."
That Red Baron, he's a Char.
I am certainly happy to see feathered raptors slooowwwwllly becoming normalized in dino media...but so far the feathers have been "misused"..ie, these raptors flying and the "ice raptor" in Jurassic Dominion swimming under frozen water like a damn leopard seal...
Nigel and that rap.
That damn rap.
So theatrical.
This video was full of surprises. I have a question about Killian. Are we supposed to sympathize with him? because they said he was a terrorist even before he met Lance and Walter. So he made his life choice and kinda got what he deserved. I only took walter's side because Lance needs Killian alive so he could prove that he was framed. Also since you made a darkest illumation moments video, does this mean you're gonna do a darkest blue sky moments video?
No you aren’t supposed to sympathize with Killian but you can understand what he is saying: Lance and his agency say that they protect people yet they use violent methods with could also kill innocent people along with the villains and Lance killing his men doesn’t make Lance and his agency any better than Killian
I think Nigel is the best villain and thank you for giving props to Captain Gutt, he was the best part of Ice Age 4.
2:41 I think the lollipop was supposed to substitute a cigarette seeing as a lot of these types of people are always seen with a cigarette in their mouth
It’s the Ice Age villains that usually catch my attention. Especially since they used overlooked prehistoric animals that weren’t often shown in films or tv shows, like Cretaceous and Maelstrom being a Metriorhynchus and some kind of Pliosaur, orMosasaur, Rudy being a Baryonyx and Captain Gutt being a Gigantopithecus.
Fun fact: Big Boss's real name is Miguel, after his late voice actor, Miguel Ferrer.
Captain Gut was one of the very few good things about Ice Age 4
I've always wanted to see how people would rank these villains. A great list!
I think you have a point with how Mandrake is portrayed. It's clever. Of course, I don't appreciate you throwing Hexxus from Ferngully under the bus like that. Hexxus is a rather imposing and captivating villain in his own right. If you have the time, it would be nice to see you cover such an underrated gem and it's Tim Curry masterpiece of a villain. Anyway, love your rankings and videos! Keep it up! (Sorry for the rough opinion. Hexxus is my all time favorite villain, and to see him boiled down as simplistic felt like a personal injustice. I still respect your opinion, though.)
5:20 not only that but The Red Baron was a real German fighter pilot during the first World War
Horton hears a who (the blue sky’s one ) genuinely is my nostalgic movie I got it for a Christmas present from my grandparents when I was like 7 or 8 and I watched it constantly
Killian is a top tier villain but for me it goes to Rudy in Ice Age 3 and Madame Gasket in Robots
I enjoy blue sky films, but this really highlights how lacklustre their villains have been. A bit of a shame, since they’ve had so many. Killian looks great though, I’ll have to watch that film.
Rudy terrified me as a little kid. Probably didn't help that I first saw the movie in 3D so it was extra scary for 9 year old me 😂
Epic made me understand why its okay to kill bugs out of my tree this year. To help save it. Hundreds of earwigs and bugs were eating it from the inside. Nature is in a cycle of constant growth and rot.
Madame Gasket and Rachet are both placed FAR higher for me. I see the parallels of outmodes with those like me, on so called "disability benefits" and what will happen if and when that gets purposefully taken away by a government based on monetary gain. Robots is a story about being yourself, even if you can fall apart on the daily, like Fender. A story about Community Over Money. "Whether a bot is made of old parts, new parts, or spare parts. You can shine no matter what you're made of."
Nigel is the Joker of the Blue Sky films
I do find it strange though that the movie is that in Brazil sulphur crested cockatoos are Australian Nigel himself is portrayed as British and he is voiced by a New Zealander
I watched Robots only one time at a friends house and man Madame Gasket scared the shit out of me.
Honorable mentions
The astroid
Gaby
The drones
Mandara
Soto gang
Llamo Wickersham brothers
Personally Nigel is my favourite Blue Sky villain. I also love Jemaine Clement's voice work. So fun to listen to :D
Finally the video I waited for
Dang, in my country Niggel is named Pepillo
It has every blue sky villain on the list so good job
I think I’m not AS scared of Ratchet as I am the other villains…
Because he just doesn’t give off an intimidating vibe.
He gives off the annoying business man vibe.. His MOM ON THE OTHER HAND.
Tbh she’s intimidating af.. And the CHOP SHOP doesn’t fix it for me. I remember being scared of that place in the movie as a kid. Not much any more but holy shit a whole place that kills off old robots ..
Ratchet reminds me of Handsome Jack from Borderlands and so I'm biased to like him
How about a ranking of Pixar and Dreamworks Villains?
I’d like that 🙂👍

@@lexramstudios1386 sounds cool too
BIG BOSS?!? Nah that’s a number one spot he’s a war criminal and has a sad backstory killing the boss as such. He was truly villainous is metal gear solid 5 tho.
The main reason why big boss on a lollipop I think they wanted to make him smoke on a cigarette but they not been allowed to
When you think about the size of a mammoth rudi would be about as tall as those double decker buses so he definitely is one of if not the biggest one on the list.
NOw I finally remembered what the movie about tiny leaf warriors and batskin guy was like
I agree with that ranking
I remember seeing spies in disguise in theaters and it was amazing
El Primero is in my opinion one of the more respectable villains since there are other villains that would still try to kill the heroes or complain even though the conflict has been resolved like Zera form loin king 2
I don't think the first dino birds were meant to be that villainous, just to give more tension
Let’s be serious. The director from nimona is the scariest blue sky villain!
I am pretty sure why big boss had a lollipop is because they want him to be a smoker, instead of a cigarette it’s a lollipop.
The only villains I like is:
1. Yummo wickersham
2. Rudy
3. Gutt
4. Vlad
5. Councilman
6. Nits wickersham
7. Nuts wickersham
8. Madam gasket
9. Wickersham brothers
10. Nigel
Red Baron is a ok villain but I like the part he drown in the pond in the ending of the movie I like that for a villain defeat
another thing to note about Gasket:
she is the owner of a factory that captures people, and puts them on a track, where they are brutally ripped to shreds to be turned into the UPGRADES of other robots
huh, and they mostly say that Killian is a typical bland villain for some reason (case in point ANIMAT´S analysis)
Though you can't argue that his Australian accent is pretty cool
I wish they could've had the dino villains have a decent plan but one that would halt the main characters. The main characters are just doing whatever they can to survive, but the dino birds are trying to think on how they could profit from this. For example, they try to halt their progress in stopping the asteroid so they can stop it first and become respected and get all the food they want. They want to steal their plan, then kidnap them and keep them from enacting it. Something like that. Then, by the end, they still realize the plan wouldn't work with just the 3, and instead of obsessing over glory they actually snap out of it and realize they need help, or that teamwork makes the dreamwork is another way to put it.

Robots from the quiet streets at night… With that song “Underground” {By: Tom Waits} Playing for the Introduction
of the _Chop Shop_ Making quite the vibe~^^
ratchet is just the handsome jack that couldnt, and i love that
My problem with Epic is that it doesn't feel like an environmental film. It falls back on the "cute/pretty animals = good and ugly animals = bad" cliches, while painting a good chunk of nature AS the villains. While it may not be as infuriating as, say, HUMANS = good/EVERYTHING ELSE = Bad, which is a cliche that's become more and more prevailent in media, it's still annoying.
Wait, Epic was supposed to be an _environmental_ film? I thought it was about trusting your family and all that.
Robots was 1 step away from giving me nightmares after watching it. I literally thought, "huh they are kind of creepy, like all of them".
Also after watching it I was like *"Wow. I don't remember ANY OF THE PLOT".*
24:38 Did this part originally have different dialogue than just a quip?
11:24 didnt know blue sky had a member of r/atheism as a villain
I equate sour kangaroo to a real life karen.
So sour kangaroo is just a karen but anthropormortized
22:52 I am getting the Mandela effect cause I thought in 2 there were 3 and now learning there is only 2 make me wonder how I didn’t notice lol. But I admit in that movie they were cool and creepy.
Y'all not gonna talk about how Nigel had a villian song, AND it went hard. 🔥
I know you had no way to do it at the time, where would you rate The Director, from Nimona?
Love from a Vaush and Schafrilles fan!
Admittedly, I’m a sucker for pirates, sea shanties, and characters who are very suave, so I think Captain Gutt is my favorite villain in the roster. However, I agree with your list mostly, aside from Nigel, would probably swap him and Gutt. Otherwise, great video

Okay, correct me if I'm wrong here, but in the Peanuts Movie, did they pull off a cheeky [and rather sneaky] Manfred Von Richthofen reference? [Auhtor of "Rote Kampfflieger" or, "The Red Baron"]
Cool video, but I do want to question why this is the 2nd video of yours where you refer to disability airds (cybernetics) as creepy or inhuman. What's that about?
