If you ever wondered why Denver's airport is so humungously Godzilla-sized, it's because with the higher elevation, the air is thinner, which affects how much runway a plane needs to take off and land. The higher the elevation, the longer the runways have to be. Also, when it gets hot, which happens often during the summer in DEN, planes need more runway length due to lower air density. When you have large planes like 747s and A-380s, you REALLY need some long runways.
Well I hate to disappoint you my friend, but there will be no full flight for this one. I will post the takeoff from HNL, but it was because of the snowstorm that I had to change my plans last minute, to take this flight to begin with. So instead of staying overnight in Honolulu I ended up taking this red eye flight, and I decided sleep was more important haha 😂. So if recorded the takeoff and the landing bit slept through rest.
You're the third person to say that, and honestly it confuses me haha. The whole second half of the video we're flying through a winter storm. And yes, there was a winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service. It ended up dropping around 6" of snow on DEN that day. I appreciate that you enjoyed the recording my friend! The departure form HNL will be posted later this month. And yes, did go round trip. This is actually the return from my Pacific island hopper trip. I flew DEN-HNL on a 777-200 earlier in the week. We definitely weren't fully loaded, as I had the whole row to myself and there were a lot of other open seats too. So, we didn't use much runway at all, to be honest. The food was mediocre at best, but at least you got something. It was yogurt, a breakfast croissant, and a fruit bar. And I don't believe any other airlines fly this route besides United. So, no haven't flown it on anyone else. I also do not remember the altitude we cruised at. As for the camera. It's technically both haha. This was filmed on an iPhone 13 Pro.
@@sla31 An iPhone 13? Very impressed. Close to pro as possible. I'm shocked at the food or lack thereof but no market competition to do better. Was coffee good? Was food poor due to time of trip? Which is preferable? 777 pr 757? Which quieter? Most of my flying on 737's 727-200 most. Some 767, DC-10 and L1011. Last was favorite. When I flew you got fed well. My first kiss was with a United flight attendant. Won't forget her. Western used to pour free cheap champagne. PSA was what Southwest business model followed. Back before CA was overrun by illegal aliens and its economy was very good. Air CA was very good too. So was CP Air. Service and then some. Re your flight here. Didn't realize DEN was that far from Rockies. Once had a tshirt said "Expose Yourself To The Rockies". Continental Airlines was good until 80's deregulation and corporate raiders.
@@RoadsOfAsiaBen Technically that would be the Pacific island hopper that I'm posting every Saturday right now. It was nearly 16 hours on the same aircraft without getting off. The difference being that it stopped 5 times. Same flight number for the whole thing though and one ticket... Nonstop flight would be Charlotte, North Carolina or Orlando, Florida to Honolulu, Hawaii. Both were very similar in flight time and were like 9.5 hours.
I typically hold the camera by hand. I did in this video. I have a mount I’m using from time to time now, but the majority of my videos are filmed by golding the camera.
It did have an odd sound. It was there during takeoff too, but it seemed to be coming from the door I was right next to, not the engines or hydraulics like on that A320. 🤷🏻♂️
No full flight on this one sadly. I only took this flight because I had to be home at a certain time and this winter storm was approaching Denver. My original flight was the next morning and I couldn’t afford to get stuck in Denver. So I changed to an earlier flight. As a result I had to sleep on the flight and since I hold the camera by hand…. Well I couldn’t sleep and film haha.
This is not even close to qualifying as landing in a snow storm. There is snow on the ground and a low cloud deck. There is NOT snow falling as the jet came into land. The amount of snow on the ground doesn’t even appear to be more than a dusting. Still a stunning view while passing over the Rockies, before flying into the clouds.
Okay you’re like the third person to say this…. Serious question…. Can no one else see the snow falling…. There is clearly snow falling, and it’s a decent amount, the entire time we’re in the clouds and landing. Like why can no one else see it hahaha. This was a named “winter storm,” which dumped 6” of snow on DEN that day, it is snowing during the landing despite several people swearing it isn’t haha, and the National Weather Service not only named this storm but issued winter storm warnings for Denver. So listen, I’m not trying to be rude or argumentative, but I’m genuinely confused by your comment. This was a “storm” in every sense and it is clearly snowing during the entire approach. Not just snowing but at a decent pace, so that part really confuses me 😂. Just look at the final shot of the aircraft at the gate, once we’d stopped moving and the camera was picking up the full force of the snow. Perhaps make sure the video is playing at full 4K to make sure all the details are showing. Anyways, I do appreciate you watching my friend.
Yes, I can see the snow fluttering when you land and even better when you’re at the gate. Obviously this was the beginning of the storm as it hadn’t accumulated very much yet. I apologize for upsetting you. It was a stunning view before you guys descended below the cloud deck. I used to fly between Denver and California quite a lot when I lived in the Bay Area and flew on United often. Since moving to Oregon Alaska Airlines has become my primary carrier and they don’t route me through Denver. Is that a United flight you were on flying into the snow? Since you fly a lot you might know the answer to this question: at what point do snow storms typically shut down an airport? Is it mostly a visibility thing? Or does wind have to factor into the equation. I’d imagine the take offs are not as problematic as landings. What is the visibility cut off to shit down an airport? So is this your only job, flying around making videos? Good work. I enjoy the videos, find them relaxing.

Well it really depends on the airport and how much infrastructure they have in place to deal with it. On one hand, places like Denver are used to it and have tons of plows and other tools to keep up with almost anything. I think I read recently that Denver had only shut down twice in the last 25 years for snow. On the other hand, places like DFW, who aren’t used to snow, shut down when there’s barely anything happening because they just don’t have the equipment to deal with it. Which sounds bad, but why spend millions of dollars on tons of equipment to be used maybe once per year. Whereas Denver uses it all, pretty much daily, for a good portion of the year. In the end, it really comes down to r he airports ability to keep the runways and taxiways clean. The airplanes can pretty much fly in all of it, no problem. Even visibility wise, they can pretty much deal with it. Heavy, thick, dense fog at ground level might be the only thing that hinders them. Todays ILS and GPS approaches have really low minimums at major airports so it takes a lot for the plane’s navigate systems to be the weakest link. For reference, and to your last question, I know all of this because until recently all of that was my job. Now, I run this channel full time, but until a month or so ago, I worked in Airport Operations at one of our nations commercial airports. It was my job to keep the airfield open and running. If we closed for snow it was because it was coming down so fast that our plows couldn’t keep up; which wasn’t very often. And we didn’t have anything close to what DEN has.
