Goodbye, old friend
I absolutely *love* how Bear McCreary used Babylon (the oldest language to be deciphered/translated) for this track!
It really represents how ancient and mighty Godzilla is, and how it correlates with humanity once worshiping him. As the track continues to play, humanity gives one last gift to help their "god", asking for redemption for what *they* did.
"Goodbye, old friend"
There's a second layer of symbolism present here. Think of the cultural and filmmaking origins of Gojira. He was initially created to put into context the feelings of the first and only people to ever have an atomic weapon used against them. He represented the horror caused by both bombs by, in ecense being a walking nuclear weapon. The original Serizawa created the oxygen destroyer and sacrificed himself to stop Gojira, the people watching lamenting humanity's drives to make more and more devastating means of killing. All of that cultural context and build-up is shown here with this version of Serizawa's father's watch frozen at the exact moment of the Hiroshima bomb setting up and setting of essentially the nuke to end all nukes. In the end, what allows Gojira to rise and save the earth is a Japanese man Setting off a nuclear device. I just... and to top it off, they have him actually touching Gojira looking him in the eyes and saying goodbye, old friend, as an equal. It's just so fucking beautiful and powerful a moment it wreaks me every time.
We know Godzilla by his japanese name. But what if, in this version, Godzilla had a name given by the ancient sumerians? He fits the description of Bahamut pretty well, considering they describe him as a fish like deity that supports the world on his shoulders (the hollow earth), with an angel on his back (mothra).
And like that you just gave me a whole new theory to embrace and ponder on until kong x Godzilla 😂😅
Well, we already have Dagon.
michael doughtery posted once a comic showing mothras pov of the boston fight, in it mothra calls godzilla "paragon"
I cried during this scene in the theater. Tragic.
Same
Me too bro. Me too
Cried, my guy. I was fucking Sobbing. Everything about the scene, from its cinematography to its acting to its inherent Symbolism, just absolutely wreaked me.
"Goodbye, old friend" is what got me
Godzilla kotm has the best soundtrack in the entire monsterverse, seriously, the godzilla kotm ost is pure art
I know the artwork in this image is meant to honor Dr. Ishiro Serizawa having that connection with Godzilla, but for a moment when I clicked on it I mistook it as being representative of the last human of that ancient civilization buried deep within the earth. Said individual is less affected by radiation, but is not immortal to time and as Godzilla returns to feed on radiation he is visited by this human for many years until one day the human visits the king one last time. Old and suffering this last connection of Godzilla's once beloved human civilization asks to be released, and so the King of Monsters drains away this individuals physical energy, so that his soul may pass on into eternity to be with brethren long since passed from this life. In this final act, Godzilla is left with only ruins as reminders of the days when he was not simply seen as a God of Destruction, but something so much more in the hearts, minds, and souls of those who had known him best.
S2p, when dr serizawa put his hand on Godzilla's nose, it was like Godzilla was becoming emotional and was gonna cry about losing his old friend 😢😭
I love the way choir was arranged! Female Voice, soprano and alto introducing the song, followed by Tenor and Bass crescendo and becoming stronger, also with an amazing orchestration. Great percussion. I miss the winds, horns and the brass section, but It is still amazing!!!
*Goodbye, Old Friend*
Such a magnificent scene with a great soundtrack
Goodbye, old friend
Reading the lyrics and how it compliments with the scene is just great
Thanks for reuploading this one S2P, it was beautiful hearing this in the movie theater and it's nice hearing it here
Remember watching this in theaters saddening
And now I know what's going to play at my funeral.
"Goodbye old friend" godzillas reaction was this maybe "thank you for saving me serizawa san....."
I'm not going to cry I'm not going to cry
Such a beautiful song!
Goodbye Friend,We will graduate.Hope we can meet again in future when we become succes
Best scene from the movie
I have no shame in admitting that when I watched this scene for the first time, I was crying. Everything about this scene was beautiful, tragic and poetic at the same time. the icing on top was Serizawa's words before the bomb went off "Goodbye old friend" spoken in Japanese. Pure Movie Magic.
Reminds me respecting mother earth
Saraba... Tomoyo.
What is that language? Old Babylonian? I wanna to learn it. This language one of the most incredible languages in the linguistic-history of this world!
Asyrian, I think
“Saraba…toymo”
I Love It! sound Beautiful! 🤩
2:06
Saraba da
Tomoyo
So so sad😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😢😢😢😢😢
Idk what name is he but the person who said "good bye... Old friend* and mothra snd mechagodzilla
Which is the main language on this song?
Babylonian
Babylonian, it's an ancient language that has been forgotten from long history of mankind, however, nobody ever knew that language was existed from before and after. That song has brought me grief in the theater, and it was tragic for someone who must sacrifice to save someone's life.
@@doorman87ify you know a lot of people used to speak that language
But now their dead
