    This is such a useful video! Packed with great tips and explained so clearly. Thank you! I’m a novice crocheter, and I struggle with counting rows, especially when I’ve worked only single crotchet rows, and your tips made it so easy to identify where to insert the hook to start the foundation row especially at the side of the work. Plus your explanation of how to work on the fourth corner and your patient demonstration was very useful. Thank you! You’ve certainly helped me to make my crocheting experience so much more pleasant by largely taking away the guesswork that I’d have to do when I tried to make a border (one of the reasons why I avoided making borders earlier). The end result looks so clean and professional when done properly!

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  Před rokem +1

      Thank you for bringing that up Doreen! The sc, chain 1, sc corner is also common and could absolutely be used in the particular border. I noticed that the chain 1 can create an opening there for each round which is pretty and just a different look. For a completely closed border the 3 sc in the corner works great. 😊🧶🧡

    Thankyou so much for your easy to follow video. I’ve done the main body of my blanket in double crochet and only done one chain on the end of each row so round the border do I just do one double in each hole ? 😃

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Katie! That is a great question. Ok, when working your border on the sides of your blanket I want you to really look at the side of each row. If the side of the row shows the chain 1 you used to get to that row then you will make one single crochet in the side of that row. If you are looking at the side of the row and it shows a double crochet for the last stitch of that row you will make 2 single crochets on the side of that double crochet. You will notice that if you only make one single crochet on the side of a double crochet stitch that your stitches will start to bunch. 2 single crochets will space out your stitches. After you are done with the first side of the blanket pause. lay the blanket flat and look to see if everything looks flat or if you notice any bunching so that you can fix it now. Then do the same after finishes the other side of the blanket border.
      The good things is that you only need to worry about this for the first row of the blanket border and then you are all set up to work the border and don't need to worry about the main body of the blanket anymore.
      Hope this helps! Good luck. 😊🧡🧶

  • @siddelld
    @siddelld Před 6 měsíci +1

    This is a great video!!!!! I have asked what is the corner stitch. You explained to start the 3 sc in the last stitch of the row. Makes perfect sense. One thing I am still unclear and I am sure it is me, when you are working on a corner where there is a turning chain after the last stitch, (this is where the body of the blanket is hdc), will the 3 sc go around the turning chain?

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Fabulous question!!! I would completely ignore the turning chain and make the 3 stitches in the last actual stitch. 😊❤️🧶

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  Před 2 lety

      Hi Free Spirit with Nature. You can absolutely work the sc border around a blanket made up with Double Crochet rows. You will just work 2 sc in the side of each row. Technically you do not have to start with a sc row for a blanket though I find it to be a good starting foundation row to keep everything clean. You mentioned working a front and back stitch. Did you want to make this stitch for a border? That is definitely a more intermediate crochet stitch and might be a little confusing for me to type out how to do that. You may want to stick to plain basic stitches for the time being and work up to that. It will still turn out very pretty. 😊🧡🧶

    Thank you for this video. Can I please ask if this still applies if I’ve done a front post back post double crochet blanket with chain two at the end? Also in the second row of border is it still only 3 stitches into the corners

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  Před 2 lety

      Hi Debbie! Great questions! First, I have found that the FPdc/BPdc stitch blanket the stitches are more compact so the border I will make only one stitch in the side of the row. It is definitely the exception. So thanks for asking. As for you second question, for every row of your border you will need to make 3 stitches in the corner stitch which in the second row on will be the second stitch of the 3 that you will make 3 stitches into. It keeps the rows flat. Hope this helps. 😊❤️🧶

      @@CrochetWithTiffany thanks Tiffany, I ended up single crochet stitch for stitch in both short ends and 2 x single crochet followed by 1 single crochet repeated down the sides of the blanket. Your tip about doing the first border round in same colour as blanket was fabulous. I have tried 5 different borders on this blanket but this one is by far the most suitable. Again thank you.

      Great question! If you are working a Dc border I would make 3 Dc stitches in the middle Sc stitch. OR you could also make a Dc, chain 2, Dc. But I probably would make 3 chains.
      If you are referring to the main blanket patter being a Dc chain 3 Dc like in a Granny Square, I would do this.
      When you come upon the corner, make one sc around the first chain, 3 sc around the second chain and one sc around the third chain. So you will technically be making 5 Sc in this chain 3 space. THIS IS SUPER IMPORTANT!! We are accounting for each chain or each stitch space. So in the next round for the blanket border you will come to this 5 sc space and make 1 sc in the first 2 sc stitches, in the 3rd sc stitch or middle sc stitch make your 3 sc stitches for the corner, and then make one sc stitch in the last 2 sc stitches in this space.
      Then in the 3rd row for your border everything will be on track.
      I hope this helps! Haha, had a few different ways of interpreting that question and so answered a few different ways. 😊🧶🧡

    Hi,
    I’m losing stitches on my blanket,it’s not obvious now,
    How do I add? It’s the beginners blanket, which I love.
    I’m making it for my grandson who’s coming in March.

      Hi Sarah! Congratulations on your brand new grandson coming in March. Ok, if you are noticing that you are missing I would add a stitch to the very end of each row until you are back to the number of stitches you had in row 1. Make a gradual come back. Hope this helps! Counting your stitches per row for a few rows will help you out a bunch. 😊🧡🧶

    So I made a baby blanket with the Bernat baby yarn- so thick and kind of hard to find the right stitches. I did the top row fine, turned corner did one side. But when I lay it flat the side is wavy not flat. The blanket was rows of HDC into the back loop of each stitch then chain two. Repeat. So I tried the 2 sc in each chain two. So what should I be doing different if it is wavy? I seem to have this issue when I try borders.

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Chris! I think I can picture what is happening here. Your first and last stitch is a Hdc but the chain 2 is what’s confusing things. Try making just 1 sc in the side of each row. That should fix the waves and help the blanket lay flat. The Hdc rows are not long enough to support 2 scs in the side of that row and lay flat. Great question! Thank you so much for asking!

    Hello. I just watched your single crochet border. I'm making a double crochet blanket.Im still struggling with trying to make it straight and clean

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  Před rokem

      Hmm, my first suggestion is to watch how tight your stitches are. That will be a major factor for the borders. Also, round 1 of your border is the MOST important round. Really sets up the entire border and how it will look. When working this round put the project down often and check to see how it's laying. If you are noticing the stitches are bunching then you many need to add MORE stitches to get it to lay flat. If you are noticing the stitches and ruffling you may have too many stitches and need to remove some until it lays flat.
      Sometimes, depending on our tension and the nature of the crochet stitches we used in the main body of the blanket, the border may need to be changed just slightly for everything to lay flat. But ultimately that is what we want, is for it to lay flat. This will also help to get the clean straight sides you are looking for.
      I hope this helps! 😊❤️🧶

    OR…. Do you suggest another version single crochet border for a GRANNY SQUARE baby blanket?

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  Před rokem

      Hi Charlene! Yes, this single crochet blanket border will work great with a Granny Square Blanket. Be extra careful with your stitch tension that you are making looser stitches to matchup with the stitch tension of your blanket. It is very easy to make Single Crochet stitches rather tight and that would scrunch up your blanket. Do regular checks by laying the blanket down flat and seeing how the border is effecting the blanket and if you need to go back and loosen up your stitches.
      You could also substitute out the Single Crochet Stitch with a Half Double Crochet or Double Crochet stitch too! This might help with the stitch tension.
      There are many different blanket borders you can use! It is all up to you on what your think would look nice together, who the blanket is for, and if the stitch count will fit with your sides. 🧶❤️😊
