Aphrodite and Ares’s affair is why I enjoy the phrase, “All’s fair in love and war”
Nhia Pheng Thao wha-how...hoW COME I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT?! and i knew this story before
Yessica Corona right? lol 😂
I could be wrong - but I believe that might be the origin of that saying.
@@trence5 i believe it is as well

"Aphrodite's Uterus was essentially an almighty clown car" That may be the single best sentence I've ever heard.
I busted out laughing when he said that XD man I love greek mythology XD
I actually had to pause the video for a couple of minutes because of how hard I was laughing at that part.
Best sentence EVER!! Lol! 5:41
*Future voice* she belongs to the sea!
Is it because it’s so small but it can big things in it ?
Athena: *offers supreme wisdom*
Hera: *offers glory fame and power*
Aphrodite:Hmmm.... how about a pretty already married woman, and her husband controls one of the most feared army on the planet who already has a child
Paris:Aphrodite wins hands down

"You have to marry this guy because everyone wants you and that's your fault"
"But I don't want to...?"
"Too bad"
*how dare she cheat on him!!!*
I mean she could said no but dude was a good faithful husband.
It's not an excuse for cheating. Especially on a faithful dude. I get the situation is trash but she was a goddess....It's not like thinking her way out, running away, saying no,divorce (which I think hepestus does in some version due to her cheating) weren't options.
Never understood people (mostly women) who defended that. She cheated because she lusted after multiple dudes....it was her thing, don't defend it sarcastically or otherwise.
@@ThatGuy-en2nn will you justify Athena's curses as well?
The thing is though she probably wasn't allowed to say no, I'm pretty sure he said that they made her marry him. I don't think she would've married him if she had any other option
Things were different back then and shes also not real.
Also finally made me boyfriend watch the messed up origins series. He thought "he won't be interested" no he's 5 videos in and said we're not sleeping till we've watched them all😂

The Spartan Aphrodite was also known as Aphrodite Areia. She was a war goddess as well as being the goddess of love and beauty. But only in Sparta and Kythera. She was originally derived from Astarte, who was herself derived from Ishtar, who was originally the Sumerian goddess Innanna.
It kinda makes sense that a warrior culture like Sparta would depict a Goddess of Love as a warrior as well, as most interpretations of Spartan society I've seen say they respect strong willed women (or at least respected women more than just about anywhere else)
Love this, also, wasnt Freyja essentially a Nordic counterpart to Aphrodite, both Goddesses of Love, Beauty and War.
@@TheMistressMisery They were definitely similar. Freyja was also a Death Goddess and got first choice of fallen warriors, half going to her in Folkvangr and the other half going to Odin in Valhalla. Both of these ladies are multitaskers.

@@nocturnalanimals5884 FBI OPEN UP!!!
Despacito 2 yes, and Hades and Persephone and that b**** even cheated on him with Zeus her dad...
Wait Athena is zeus's daughter?
He didn't care he was screwing everybody, and his wife didn't like it and would kill people.
Hefestos is NOT Zeus's son.
He's ONLY Hera's son ,
when Zeus's head and popped out Athena, Hera was jealous and decided go give birth to Hefestos but he was born with disability, she went furious and threw him from Olympos
In some versions, he is actually Zeus's son.
fix ur spelling
Umm sorry to sound rude but it's actually Hephaestus
Hahahaha he hit the ground harder than the dinosaur asteroid
from what i read, hera got jealous of zeus' many lovers and attempted to get pregnant without him to prove a point. this lead to hephaestus being born with disabilities. now so, depends on which myth you read, there are two endings. hera threw hephaestus from mount olympus to avoid being a laughing stock of the gods or when she showed hephaestus to zeus, he was shocked at how disgusting hephaestus looked so zeus threw him from mount olympus. some versions also say it was hephaestus' fall from mount olympus that made him crippled.
“Aphrodite’s uterus was essentially an almighty clown car” 😂😂😂😂😂
There's sooo much to talk about Aphrodite... Like that time she was jealous of her son Eros's love interest and how she tormented her until she gave in. Or that time she was so in love with a human that she gave up all her beauty and allure-enhancing gizmos. P. S. Paris was an idiot. Athena's bribe was the best offer.
Yeah, I would took Athena's bribe, even though I don't like her. I don't like Aphordite more than I don't like Athena.
Yeah, me too
Angie's World i would choose Hera.
I mean sure on paper Athena's bribe would be the best offer but I think Paris was smarter than we give him credit for. Unlike Hera or Athena, Aphrodite was the goddess of love and beauty first and foremost and I think Paris knew that and if he didn't pick aphrodite(it would be like calling Athena dumb or Hera a bitch), just imagine the curse he might get from her(which would most probably be the worst since she would most definitely take it personally being the god of beauty and all that). I imagine her curse as something like "no matter how famous or strong or whatever you achieve you will never be loved and everyone you love will die or never love you back". So yeah Paris kinda made the best choice given the information he had at the time, now hindsight being 20/20 we know it didn't go as he planned and the rest is mythology.
@@angiesworld8038 Of all the Greek gods Athena is my favorite only after Heraclese (Unless we count Kratos) as she's a goddess of wisdom and I like God's who have wisdom as one of the things they reside over (My favorite Norse god Odin and Mimir is second)
I told my brother I was watching about Aphrodite. He asked me: did he had an afro (aphro-dit-e)? I always felt like he was adopted. Btw: I like your info
In the game Smite, she has a skin that has an Afro and it's called Afroditie or something, you should check the game out, it's free on pc and console
"Could've been her father."

All of mythology is has incest somewhere. The family tree is very ummm complicated.
Aphrodite as a name actually means the one who came from sea foam!(afros:sea foam ,"dite" comes from the Greek verb "anadio" which means coming up like when sth is put in water and then comes up)You should know that all Greek names have a meaning behind them ,its rather fascinating!
Wait so did you know the joke that NASA played... so basically they sent a probe called Venus (One of Hera’s names) to Jupiter (One of Zeus’ names) to “check on Jupiter”...it’s not funny but they were some smart asses for that😂
@@dormammusofat they sent Juno (Roman name for Hera), Venus is for Aphrodite
All names in general have meaning behind them.
I don't think there's a definitive look Aphrodite has, since she always looks like "your perfect woman"
and since everyone has their own definition of "perfect" that would indicate she could take the most desirable form for anyone! She'll never look the same twice ;)
@@RedRoseSeptember22 lmao
which is why DryBones271 had "your perfect woman" in quotes

More of a Bea Arthur man, myself...
ive been in love with greek myth since i was young. So some stories ive known for long, but alot of them i don't know at all! please continue making these :D
Same!
Me too!
I knew I wasn’t the only one who read like those big 1000 page books on mythology when I was like 9
Wait, I’m trying to put two and two together. So Eris, the goddess of discord, was not invited to the wedding but everyone else was. And Maleficent was not invited to the party for Aurora but everyone else was. They both show up to the parties anyway and cause problems for the attendees. Was there a possibility that the story of sleeping beauty was influenced by Eris??? Just posing a question, not quite sure🏃♀️🏃♀️
When my sister was taking a test on Greek mythology, she couldn't remember what Aphrodite was the goddess of. She wrote down "Goddess of Afros" as an answer, and the teacher gave her credit on the question "for creativity"!
Was Aphrodite wrong though?
She never choose to be with Hephesto, I don't think she owns him anything
She did agree to the offer when she could have rejected it.
You don’t reject Hera and think of getting away with it
I read one version of the story where she agreed because she knew Hephaestus would be busy all the time so she could sleep with the other gods.
There's also a version where Zeus forced her to marry him so the other gods wouldn't fight over her
The gods are named aptly for their gifts and rulerships. Current day morales and structures are man made, yet don’t apply to men. She is the goddess of Love and that’s what she’ll do. She shouldn’t be married in the first place. She will be in love over and over again. There’s too many forms of it for her to be forced to stay in one mode for eternity. The sheer fact not a single version of her story had her marrying for love or even wanted for anything but her beauty should give you pause on what “marriage” means.
"Almighty clown car" has to be the best thing I've ever heard.
When I was in elementary school, we did a Greek god project and I was assigned to be Aphrodite-so you can imagine how weird it was for a 5th grader doing research on her.

Aphrodite was also a mother-in-law from hell to Psyche! I hope you do an episode of Cupid and Psyche, which also in a way is a precursor to Beauty and the Beast.
Okay turns out the story of aphrodite was a lot darker than just being about love. Everything I thought I knew was totally wrong 😂
Yeah seems most of the Goddesses were spiteful whores lmao.

Silver lining bro, she wants you to herself so is sabotaging you so there are no problems later!
Regardless of how much her husband adored her and showered her with gifts, she was FORCED into that marriage. Soooo🤷♀️. And she got around as much as Zeus, let her live lol
cheating aint her only problem tho,i'd let her live if she:
didn't start the trojan war
didn't torment Psyche
didn't murder Hippolytus just because he was asexual
didn't curse mhyrra just because her idiot mom said she was more beautiful then Aphrodite
didn't fling her child off a cliff cause he was ugly
and is just kinda annoying
@Muteteli Harvey TRUE!
@@whytho1534 Actually, Aphrodite never banished her son Priapus, Jon Solo is wrong here. Priapus was a resident of Olympus until he tried to r@pe goddess Hestia in a party. Not only was it wrong to assault her but Hestia was a virgin and highly respected Elder goddess, so that was a really big celestial violation. A Donkey at a party saved Hestia but the crime was so big he was banished of olympus. This is the mostly commonly acknowledged version. I don't know where solo got it from but it's probably some confused later re-imagining of Hephestus birth.
Also, Aphrodite incited Trojan war but Athena and Hera fueled fire in the war and break truce between Both sides as well.
She's done terrible stuff but is still much better than Hera,Athena & Artemis tbh.

Hephaestus: the First Simp sounds like a great start to a Greequel triology
I’m annoyed that Aphrodite is often portrayed in modern media as looking like a Scandinavian blonde. What’s so wrong with making her look Greek with Mediterranean features?
In my mind, I picture Aphrodite looking like Monica Bellucci. Yes, she’s Italian and not Greek, but she does embody Mediterranean beauty and she’s voluptuous as opposed to being stick thin.
HindsightPOV Monica Bellicci is beautiful. A natural beauty
I agree what's up with all the blonde beauty? It's just like when people make Jesus White when he was Middle Eastern. Not saying that Whites are not beautiful, all races are, but it seems that people forget the birthplace of the person and depict them as the opposite. 👩🏼👩🏾
Ancients Greeks didn’t look the same as modern day Greeks do
I think you should read a little bit more about ancient Greeks and stop making this about race...
I personally like to think that, since beauty is in the eye of the beholder, that Aphrodite's appearance changes based on who is looking at her.
APHRODITE has just cursed Solo, up to his last descendant. ((((((💀))))))
I'm trying to catch up on mythology related topics, but damn, Aphrodite just offering her beauty when the other two offered ruling over countries was such a power move
Not her beauty, but another woman's.

Well, that’s one way to put it.
“I do, I really really do”

The most interesting part is that in some versions it says that her husband is a typical workaholic and therefore never around.
10:08 I remember reading somewhere that in ancient Rome it was socially acceptable, as a form of abortion essentially, to leave unwanted newborns to die of exposure alongside the town dump. Babies left there were fair game for adoption or whatever people wanted to do with them. The Greeks probably did the same.

The video game Immortal Fenyx Rising really touches on the Aphroditie and Ares affair. Also giving more of hephestious pov of the whole affair. Once you free the three, it's fun just listening to them making convo.
I haven’t freed them all yet but I’ve got to say, I just imagine them enduring a lover’s triangle and Athena off to the side like, “Maybe Dionysus had the right idea, spending every waking moment strapped with booze and all.”

Aphrodite's son being found by herdsman and being raised by them could have helped come up with how Disney's Hercules was found in the movie, but it also could have been inspiration from a number of other myths, even outside of the greek and roman myths. I like how aphrodite used to be a war goddess when she first arrived in the pantheon and then they changed that because a lot of people took that as contradictory values
Question: Why is Helen of Troy always portrayed as a blonde, in both Renaissance art as well as modern art and film? Her appearance is not described in the Iliad, and when I read it I pictured her as having dark hair and olive skin. Is her appearance described in some other work? Or has it simply become an unwritten tradition to depict her as a blonde maiden with fair skin, for some unknown reason?
