- Stunning Cathay Pacific Airbus A350-900 landing in Auckland International Airport CX 117 Aviation aircraft airplane flying avgeek
Apologies if you get an advertisement at the start of the video. Unfortunately the music Cathay play in the background was picked up by youtube and the people that own the copyright want to play ads. Sorry! :(
While a lot of my videos are aimed at frequent flyers, I'm getting increasing requests from avgeeks requesting I upload less edited footage of aircraft including landing and takeoffs.
APOLOGIES for the music, that's Cathay's landing music and I certainly didn't add it! :)
This will be one of many videos that I plan to upload that are aimed specifically at avgeeks.
Be sure to check out my other videos from my Cathay Pacific A350-900 flight:

The aircraft itself is wonderful but, the view of the country is spectacular!
Agreed. You may like some of the footage in my other videos: czcams.com/video/DLDtjEBnL7k/video.html and czcams.com/video/NzUEMLI4k_Q/video.html
Thank you for that whanau! Whanau means family if you dont know in our world everyone is family
I love coming home, flying into Auckland. Proud Kiwi here. Thanks for the beautiful video.
Every morning i look out my window to watch these planes fly in and out of the Auckland airport
THAT'S what I was talking about, brother!! One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. It's official. I have GOT to hit NZ as a bucket list item. And that aircraft?! Mon dieu...quel beauté!! So smooth...so quiet. Thx so much for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You ain’t seen nothing. Milford Sound is beyond belief, the most spectacular place I have ever seen . I have been to Norway too so have something to compare it too
Whenever you land in NZ - don´t waste your time in Auckland. Booked 3 nights in Auckland from overseas before my arrival. All the other backpackers there laughed at me for that move :D Go down for Taranaki and South Island :)
woah, these kind of videos in 60fps are wonderful!
Thanks mate - more coming so be sure to subscribe! :)
I'm an armchair Avgeek with no options. This video will be watched more than once. Long may you fly for us!!
My, South Auckland has sprawled. Great to have Rangi as a marker. I do miss the old home town, especially now.
lovely video. Shows that no matter how bad your flight in the plane you only need to look out the window to get some enjoyment in the bigger scale of things.
The natural beauty is impressive being NZ of course but for a geek the wing extension and RR engine look great too.
Would be interesting to compare if anyone did a 16mm cine roll in the 70's on how Auckland has changed.....
Agreed :)
One of the most beautiful views of landing ❤
A lovely video of home coming into New Zealand. The brightness of the sunshine and blueness of the skies is something to savor. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for your kind reply!
Brilliant mate, going to Auckland next year.
So looking forward to this moment .
The city that broke my heart 😢
Paul that was sensational.Beautiful aerial shots from Auckland onboard a brand new CX A350.Amazing wingview filming.
Wow, stunning footage Paul! Love the good quality :) Well done!!
Always missing that green country. It was very hard to come back to European Winter in a grey Megalopolis after a January in NZ
Very pleasant view.
How beautiful :) Loved the clarity of the video. Fantastic, Liked a lot
Those Trent engines are so quiet. Lovely to see the RR logo on the engine cowling, one of Britain's proudest and most technologically-advanced products. Only two countries in the world can produce engines for big jets and we're one of 'em.
you mean the engines that fell to bits on the 787, which RR have yet to compensate airlines for?
@@racketman2u It was a Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engine that exploded on a United 777 yesterday over Colorado. Despite that rare occurrence I would still call PW "Dependable Engines" as their motto goes. Occasional accidents happen with all engine makes the same with airframe makers (e.g. Boeing and the 737 MAX) so let's leave engine nationalism out of this. The world is a better place with competition including aviation and a choice of engine makers, be it RR, PW, GE and others. Rolls-Royce has been building aircraft engines since 1914 and have powered some of the most iconic aircraft ever built, including the Spitfire, De Havilland Mosquito, Lancaster and Vulcan bombers, Concorde and most models of big jets be they Boeing or Airbus. The overpowered 757 with RB211s ("the hot rod from Seattle") was a pilot's favorite. Just ask them.
Great video Paul. Fantastic scenery, very green like the UK .Best wishes from England
Arrrgghhh.......Home-sick. Been back once in 20yrs. Great video - I use to be a Motor-cycle Courier riding all over the terrain below; even doing urgent runs out to the Airport so that TV content could be flown out in order to make time slots on the local news.....ahhhh. Did I mention this made me Home-sick? Oh yeah I did....
I used to take this flight back and forth between Hong Kong and New Zealand. Miss the old days at school. Nice video tho😬
I’ve just uploaded the full vlog which you may be interested in :)
Beautiful plane, weather, scenery and landing. Very nice 👍
Thanks Austin. Check out my landing of the China Airlines A350 into AKL too. :)
Incredible landing! Love the engine and wingtip view! Liked!
Auckland, one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Hi mate, NZ is a wonderful country. I especially love the south island!
what a fantastic approach !
Great video of the Trent engine landing in beautiful NZ,.......
Glorious stuff. Travelling must be so much fun ;)
My 2 holidays have been cancelled. Btw can i pls have a shoutout in your next vid? (i love them!)
Lots of Aussies & Kiwis at Cathay.

Amazing view! Thanks! :)
Great video thanks Paul
Amazing loved the veiw
Great video!!
Yep, done that landing many times. Nice weather on that day.
Great quality man!!!
Great landing my Friend 👍🏼
Thank you .
Awesome Flight and Landing. Great Video mate..!
cheers mate
Went to Auckland but landed at 6 in the morning and unfortunately I was sitting in the middle row but it was worth it 😊
So awesome, this video never gets old! BTW I just did a virtual flight on the same route on the A350 in X-Plane 11, the world's most realistic desktop flight simulator!
can not wait to be there . DREAM
I miss flying :(
Home is where the Heart is
Damn i can see my school over there
Awesome video thank you and as i am creating scenery for the Prepar3D Flight simulator specific to New Zealand, i rely on videos like this to get a sense of how well they match etc so thank you :)
cheers Jason
Congrats on 10K subscribers by the way!
Thanks mate.
Nice landing
legal de Mais
parabéns
That's a great camera, the Sony A6300 isn't it?Anyway sweet approach. Keep up the good vids!
Thanks mate. The A6300 is reasonably good but misses out on the in-camera stabilization which is why I'll probably replace it with an A6500 mid-year (prior to going to Europe). BUT, the battery life is horrible and you really need to carry spare batteries.
Ok. Looking forward to seeing the camera view of the A6500!
80-0 keep up the good work!
Nice
1:25 - you can see the lowering undercarriage reflected in the engine nacelle.
amazing
Thanks for watching. Make sure you check out my China Airlines A350 landing into Auckland during sunset too. :)
What camera are you using? Great quality footage as always!
Sony A6300
@1:46 - Just in front of the engine, an area called Mission Heights (part of Flatbush)... my old house is in there someplace ;)
Wow, I can see Flatbush from this video, Ormiston bridge too.
it was a beautiful day
That Rolls Royce jet engine is phenomenal
Agreed. The Trent XWB sounds fantastic!
I like the NZ scenery
Agreed! Be sure to check out my video flying from Queenstown to Christchurch for more NZ footage!
It's got the best scenery in the world.
Great video Paul ! I really hope that I shall have the opportunity to be able to fly aboard this magnificent plane, which besides is assembled in France ^^
New Zealand is a beautiful country, but at 18.355 km of Paris !! Is it Auckland at the background ??
Yep, that's Auckland. :)
Hi Paul, great Video!
Which lens are you using with your Sony A6300?
The 16-50mm Kit Lens?
Hey mate thanks for watching. It was one of the rare sunny days in Auckland! :) Yes I think that was filmed with an A6300 although I've since purchased an A6500. Yep it's the 16-55mm kit lens.
Excellent video Paul! Which do you prefer the 787 or A350 to fly in, regardless of airline?
Fantastic channel LIKED and Subscribed! Thank you!
Thanks Tim. No preference really. Both are fantastic aircraft. I suppose the A350 is still a novelty, but I suppose the 787 is a bit older and hence more tested.
Well I've flown in both from the same airline (Qatar) and I'll tell you that the 787 is quiet on takeoff but for the cruise and landing it it pretty annoying with the high pitched whine. As for the A350, it is perfection during cruise and landing and has an amazing sound on takeoff. Both are nice aircraft but the A350 imo is better to fly on.
I flew the 787 and their was no high pitched whine at all. Best option to sit over the wing to get rid of some of the noise. That's what I did :D
I'm so jealous of all of you. 13 hip operations in 11 years has grounded me...unable to work, make $, therefore travel...but I will be getting onboard both of thoae aircraft soon, I hope. After another hip op(not to be confused with 'hip hop') next week, of course! Lol. Last flight I took was in 2006, I believe...Air Canada B777 Vancouver-Toronto. Loved it!! Not too many domestic flights around the world use the heavies...I was greatful on that day.
The flaps whine sound similar to the A380
What's the landing music?
Can you do a flight from Auckland to Honolulu on Hawaiian Airlines?
I suspect I'd get an amazing view, but unfortunately I don't have any plans on visiting Hawaii in the near future.
Kunal Vallabh I've done that flight both directions. Is there anything specific you want to know about it?
Can we see the 10 minutes prior to where you start this video? Would include stunning views of the harbour and downtown area...
Sorry I haven't included that in this video BUT I did film more of the city on another A350 landing into Auckland here: czcams.com/video/voOj06nhuwE/video.html
1:28Gear Down
if the video was uploaded the same day it was filmed I took the exact same flight except the next day so 17 December 2016
That’s my house!
It must be a far east airlines thing, playing music during touchdown. Never heard any on other region's carriers
What's the title of the music?
there is the takeoff vidéo?
Hi mate, yes there is on my channel. Here's the link for you :) czcams.com/video/doMvSWLotVI/video.html
what camera did you shoot this with ?
Hi mate, I use a Sony A6500. :)
Paul Stewart thanks. The picture quality is stunning.
Thanks mate. Yeah I surprised myself at how well it came out. I think it was just the good luck of me being on the correct side of the aircraft and the weather being particularly good that day.
I think i saw my house
the pilot sounded like he is a kiwi.
He is
The pilot sounds like either an Aussie or Kiwi
I've noticed that Cathay have a lot of Aussie, Kiwi and British pilots.
Paul Stewart Yes a lot are ex RAF, RAAF and RNZAF.........and well paid too!!
Alot of the Aussie Cathay Pilots went over when they were laid off from Ansett
He's kiwi
Bruh, out of all the countries my parents could’ve immigrated to they chose the uk 🤦♂️, I could’ve been living in New Zealand or usa
Three lucky birds narrowly avoiding striking the plane?
Really? I didn't notice them? What's the time-stamp?
@@PaulStewartAviation around 2:42 for the first one but they don’t come in quick succession.
No wing flex from Airbus? Oh. Only boieng?
Nope there's certainly quite a bit of flex in the A350 and A380 wings. Check out this video and you'll see the wing flex on takeoff: czcams.com/video/DLDtjEBnL7k/video.html
Every aircraft has to have wing flex otherwise things would snap off. It depends on the conditions of surrounding environment and how the wing has been constructed. Some will show more flex than others but the wings and engine pylons do still move around quite a lot,
Closed to international travel till 2030
hi can i post with credit in instagram account ( @flight__no1 )?
Yes. My insta account is @paulstewartaviation
Thank you. Here is one more interesting landing after the longest flight in the world - czcams.com/video/hqtzh_Tja4g/video.html
You can see they are driving on the left in New Zealand, Why, even in China they drive on the Right... all this because the Old Country (England) does it on the left, Cartoon if you ask me.
This company will just tell lies. All to easy to make a big profit when you tell the customer one thing and then just goback on it some month later. They cost me 5 London Hong Kong returns. I even when to the head office and all the did was laugh.
Great video!
cheers my friend. I've got the trip report and takeoff footage on my channel which you might also enjoy :)
