I came from a business family in india from a small town, we had everything and more but I still came to US because my company sent, day and night I used to dream about india. It is the case about many of my friends. Our hearts are in India. Every time I say I want to move back my friends at US laugh and same with friends in India. Both parties discourage.
But after living here in US for 22 years, in every visit I am not finding the old india that I always loved. It has changed a lot both in good and bad way. Already families are torn apart in india too. There also people living with friends. Even if I move I might have to live away from both parents and kids to support current lifestyle. Moving back is always a toughest choice one has to face and in the end there is no right or wrong in it. All the best to you with your move.

I moved out of the USA 2 years ago. I enjoyed living in the US and made good friends (from different Nationalities) but I valued myself much more than these visas and all that drama. It's a loss to the USA and not for me, although I still have a valid work visa and am now eligible to apply for GC as well. I think people from Indian Nationality should value themselves more and look for other opportunities outside of USA till they realize that it is a bigger loss to them than waiting there for priority date to become current and asking them to do something for Indian Nationalities. Its time we should take matter into our hands. We should take an agressive approach than a defensive one, wait and watch approach

Once you complete 2 terms i.e 6 years, you have to go back to India for one year and then apply for H1B again and rate of denial is very high. Living in USA is more difficult as compared to anyother country because of their visa issues. Many times people living in USA miss important family issues as they are afraid once they come here while their visa is about to expire it might not get renewed again. Also the flight duration is very long from India. UK is much better in conparison as the flight duration is 8-9 hours for direct flight and there are many direct flights available everyday.

Getting on H1 and work for some shady contractor is a problem. He will not pay you much. You are a software coolie. You think before spending. You do not visit india for decades because you are afraid to loose your H1 status. Not making much money to spend on air ticket. This is not the situation for all. You work for a good company who sponsor your H1 visa will also pay you good money. Who will also process your green card. Your life will be good.
People who go on L1 visa get their green card immediately after 1 year of stay. Your employer will take care of everything. How good you are in your field of knowledge is what matters. Don’t be a software coolie in US.

From a long term perspective, being close to family (not just immediate family) and roots, makes sense. Not everything can or should be measured in dollars/rupees. Unfortunately, most realize this after many years of living elsewhere. Unless the plan is to relocate the entire family (including parents and others) eventually over time, living with one foot in two continents is 'problematic' and it's better to avoid it. If good educational and career opportunities are available in-country, then building a life in one's home country (India in this case), makes more sense.

A person gets green card in 8-10 years (not 30-40 years) even now people have gotten in 8-10 years. Creating startup in US is way much easier than India and revenues are way more higher. Laws are much more stricter in US which helps businesses and common man.

About cultural assimilation in one life time in adopted country is to face alien behavior no matter what the opportunities are. Canada should follow the same policy as the US does for its citizenship, i.e., a maximum of 7% per country per year. Right now, Canada is being flooded with Indian foreign students and permanent residents. The same limit per country in Canada should be for foreign students, permanent residents, and citizenship.

Your comments are applicable to holders of H1B visa . Specifically for IT workers. . After large scale fraud were perpetrated by some Indian IT firms , US immigration has become very strict about H1B process . We Indians are ourselves to blame . If someone is on H1B visa , it is wise to plan to return after perhaps one renewal while you are still young . That way people will avoid a lot tension and uncertainty. But none of what you say is applicable to other Indians who go to USA for post graduate studies . Getting a green card is less uncertain with a US GRADUATE degree .
