    Disagree; this is a final oboe for someone like me. I did my undergrad on a RIEC. I wouldn't need anything greater than this to play and teach the rest of my life. However, I would likely not be playing in any professional groups.
    I feel like people who went to nicer music schools than I did have a lot different take on things. I think the basic professional or even grad model like the Rigoutat RIEC or Howarth S40 can be good enough for lifelong play if their plans are not to play professionally after their recital. I know many people who made it through their (Music Ed) undergrad on a plastic Fox 330. I don't think band directors need a Loree Royal (or that level) even if oboe is their principal instrument and they teach privately on it.

    Playing on a Loree A series. Like OLD.
    Haven't found my favorite. I've played on a Covey that I wasn't good enough to appreciate, a Buffet Prodige I hated, A Rigoutat RIEC I liked but found a little too responsive, and now the Loree, who is new enough to me that she hasn't been named. Quite a ringing sound.
    Makes I want to try: JOSEF, 90's Loree, 90's Rigoutat, Howarth, Marigaux, Yamaha, Bulgheroni, Josef, Josef...

    Well I only started to learn to play the Oboe in January, but I'm going to have a look in two day's to buy one.. I'm playing a Rigoutat Delphine now.. But playing the Clarinet also, I feel more like buying my instrument than lending it from Music school..

    Excellent video with excellent recommendations ;)
    I'd love to hear a sound sample of more Oboes, I know a lot of beginners could benefit from this info so I'll share if anybody asks me!

    I'm now playing a Bulgheroni Opera model which I got at the factory, actually. Before that I had a B-series Chauvet which was a lovely horn.

    This video has so much value. We're all in this spot, at some point, to choose an oboe to buy. I'm still renting (a Fox 450) and trying to figure it out myself. If you haven't done this already, I wonder if you would do a video on the process you went through in choosing the oboe you have. I think it would be very helpful to us "shoppers". And why did you decide you hated that first reed so quickly?? Thanks.

    • @OboeFiles
      @OboeFiles  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks! The first reed felt ok but it had not enough freedom for the cover of the new instrument. My oboe is a lot older and I have to make reeds that shelter the sound a lot more to sound pretty, so the new oboe was too covered to get enough sound out. The second reed had a lot more freedom. I'd love to make a video like that thanks for the suggestion! As always more to come.

    I own a wood Buescher oboe that I fixed up. After having fixed it up and getting new pads it produces a nice sound. However, I’d love to upgrade whenever I get the money(probably won’t be for a long time). I want to look into some Lorées, or if I can’t afford a Lorée at the time, I’ll settle for a wooden Selmer till I can afford a Lorée.
    People talk crap on Selmers but honestly, they sound just fine to me. Not the best, but they get the job done.
    Sometimes when you don’t have a budget, you don’t have a budget😬

    • @OboeFiles
      @OboeFiles  Před 5 lety

      I love my Loree, but there are other good oboes that are much less expensive, especially if you are ok with trying Fossati or 2nd tier Howarth. The only Selmers i have tried are 40 years old and in bad condition so i would be interested to see one that was in good condition.

    I actual bought one of these and wound up sending it back. Stoopid. I found the sound sort of "bandy" and not something I wanted to listen to long term. I was playing an elderly Rigoutat Classical---which began to sound thin after I spent more time on English horn (Bulgheroni, gorgeous). I am now playing a Chauvet BW, which is lovely.

    Do you have an opinion on Eastman oboes? I have one and it’s not the best I’ve played on but it’s definitely not the worst

      Hannah Newbury oh that’s interesting! I actually have never seen one, I graduated from Eastman, but I didn’t know there was an oboe by that name lol 😄 could u list any details about it? Or things u like or don’t like? Super curious and interested!
