Where we get our words often tells us a lot about how our cultures evolved over time and where we come from. Neither Pane or Brot are any more or less correct than the other, they’re just two different words developed through the parallel linguistic evolution of two different language families. Pane is just more common because the Roman Empire was _really fucking big._ If you look at other languages who’s root word for bread is neither Germanic or Romantic you’ll see that they too do not follow the latin model. For example, in Irish Gaelic the word for bread is “arán”, and in Scots Gaelic it’s “aran”. (Yes, Samus’ full name could be literally translated as “Samus Bread”).
