  • How do you get on a tall roof with a short ladder?
    If you have a high roof to get on, but you don't have a ladder tall enough, or if there isn't a place to set up a tall ladder even if you have one, then in this video, I show you how to you can still safely get on your roof even with a short ladder. This is a great technique for anyone who needs to do some work on their roof. I also show you how to use the ‪@thepitchhopper‬ which I love using.

    I use stainless anchor points ($4 ?) and ratchet straps to stabilize my main ladder.....in and out and left and right..For the short ladder I would definitely use anchors and straps and they are good for your safety rope anchor too so long as you use long screws into the studs....

    Why not use a device like the Guardian Ladder Stability Anchor to attach the ladder to the fascia or rafters? I have one such device on each truck. A definite must have!

      Not sure I'm picturing what you're describing. You can use the pitch hopper on any roof slope, but be sure to have other safety measures in place just in case.

      If you can position the ladder so that it extends over a window then you can use the window frame to anchor the bottom of the ladder by using rope tied to a board inside the window. The board has to be long enough to extend well past the edges of the window and in a way such that it won't come through hope that makes sense

    • @homesteadroofing
      @homesteadroofing  Před 9 měsíci

      That depends on their age. If they're newer, you may be able to do that, but you'll run the risk of cracking them. If they're older, you'll almost definitely crack them.

      @homesteadroofing  Před 5 měsíci

      I've done this same thing on a tile roof, but I made sure that the 2nd ladder was straddling a ridge. I wouldn't trust using a foam pad on a sloped tile roof. The bigger concern is breaking tiles with the feet of the 2nd ladder.

    What a legend, my big respect to you Sir for showing how to climb safely and filing at the perfect angle AT THE SAME TIME !
    Quick question, when you hook that yellow 'ladder helper' into that gutter, what if that gutter is shaky? The reason I ask: my gutter is those "K" type plastic gutter and it's super loose so in my case, that yellow ladder helper may suddenly give way !

    I'm Coating a mobile home Roof tomorrow I'm finishing 14feet lip gutters,vents,then rolling Coating on Roof. I don't want to get on the roof and I can reach with long pole but I know it going to be a arms and back pain. I have to ladders that helps me. I want to set up scaffolding but can't get it high enough. Coating is very slippery. My Roof has a small pitch. The problem is that Roof is not strong enough to walk on. Helper uses boards I'm not that brave. 70 trying to get this done so I can work on other projects that need to be done by October. Do you know of any scaffolding that is light weight & easy setup for 1 person. I'm a woman and these ladder s are heavy and awkward to move around the perimeter of house.

    I need to repaint the metal top (cap) of a chimney. The front of it is about 24 ft to 28 ft plus another 7 ft away from wall. so I will need an about 40 ft extension ladder which I don't even know exists, the rent a van to transported.
    So, I was thinking of climbing to the back which is about 12 ft high from roof using one ladder to climb to roof and another ladder to the top of chimney. Very scary and unsafe but I guess no many options. I will tie a rope around chimney and try to buy a safety vest harness to tie rope to it.
    Anybody has a better idea?
    Please advise.

    • @bobbing4snapples
      @bobbing4snapples Před 8 měsíci +1

      DO NOT TIE A ROPE TO YOUR CHIMNEY. It's not designed to withstand lateral forces like that and may be easily damaged or even collapse

    • @homesteadroofing
      @homesteadroofing  Před rokem +2

      I would not use this on a tile roof. If you can't straddle a ridge on the lower level with a ladder pull, or you can't access the upper story with a tall ladder, use a drone to inspect the upper story roof. (I would also try to avoid a ladder pull, as the ladder feet can crack the tiles)

    He said you have to maintain three points of contact at all times, then climbed up using only one hand. Each time he let go to grab the next rung he was left with only two points of contact Additionally, the ladder should have extended higher (3 not 2 rungs above roof)

    What does "12-12" "9-12" "5-12" mean?

    • @homesteadroofing
      @homesteadroofing  Před 21 dnem

      That's the pitch of the roof. Another way to say it is "rise-over-run." The first number is the number of inches of vertical rise of the roof for every 12" of horizontal run of the roof. So 4/12 would be 4" of vertical rise for every 12" of horizontal run.
      A 12/12 pitch is very steep. It's a 45-degree angle.

      @homesteadroofing  Před rokem

      Yes, it's just less safe because you're bending over the roof edge to pull up the ladder.
      The best solution is to have a ladder tall enough to reach the higher roof.
