- Kevin Maggiacomo shares in a powerful talk how we have lost the american dream and why we should reclaim it.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
Somebody else here for a homework?
Ross Umanzor here I am😅
Me
trying to get some thoughts for a scholarship appliaction, lol
I don't think a single person watches this ted talk because they want to. white boys got a point tho
Ross Umanzor oh yeah 😂
True leaders inspire with actions and lead by example. Mr. Maggiacomo's idea of fostering the American Dream is to implement a “growth strategy” that focuses on minorities. Very progressive, maybe call the program "affirmative action." We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.” -B Franklin. Keep up the hard work Mr. Maggiacomo.
just because someone has a "successful" business doesn't mean he knows what he is talking about when it comes to the American Dream.
Isn't that the whole purpose of the American Dream however? To be successful? To be able to start from nothing and build yourself up into comfortable living?
My first question is kinda tricky, because for so many different people, the American Dream is so many different things. Some people believe that it is a business success that embodies the American Dream. Some people believe the American Dream is obtaining that American Family model, two kids, two parents, a dog and a picket fence. So people think the American Dream is just simply being able to be free.
So just because someone's idea of the American Dream differs from yours does not make them wrong.
An awesome story and no one can tell it like Kevin could. Love to hear his talks and will miss them dearly.
I love the fact that you can make a difference no matter who you are, you only have to let the survivor in you out😊
Kevin "walks the walk" on a daily basis and inspires others to walk with him through his eloquent delivery and incredible substance.
Whether you agree of disagree with his substance, negatively reflecting on his views only perpetuates a polarizing and argumentative population. This was well spoken, very persuasive and had some great things to say. I'm proud to have leaders like this lead corporations in America. We need leaders as non combative, open minded and well spoken as this one in our major political platforms.
I am not often challenged by others to examine my own values and conviction. Thank you Kevin, for forcing me to consider how little I have considered the issue and commitment you have surfaced. You are right. It is easy to live a sheltered existence to the facts you exposed. Well done!
This is how I imagine their boardroom meeting playing out. Board: Our numbers are flat, what can we do? CEO Maggiacomo: We've tapped out the Caucasian race, wait I got it “Let’s include minorities". It makes good business sense, they'll get a shot at the American Dream and as a bonus I can give a Ted Talk on the subject. How gracious of you to include us in your business plans.
Chris - While you are certainly entitled to your opinion, I'll tell you that this isn't about PR, nor is it exclusively about doing the right thing. This is about better and more proactively including women and minorities today to do well by doing good. Consider the stats - 2/3rds of all college grads today are women. Census data tell us that by 2050 there will be no racial or ethnic majority in our country and new immigrants and their children will account for 83 percent of the growth in the working-age population. So this isn't about giving minorities "a shot." It's conscious capitalism, it's where the economy is headed, and embracing different now will help to discourage groupthink, will stimulate creativity and innovation and will help companies grow at a much faster pace. And yea, the TED talk was a great experience.
I'm a little confused by some of the comments. The gross inequity in America is a huge problem that is getting bigger with each congressional action. I applaud Mr. Maggiacomo and others like Robert Reich for raising awareness of this issue … (without getting political!) … especially, as he points out at the end of the talk, … when they don't have to. If everyone who already achieved the American Dream just sat back and did nothing … it's only going to get worse.
Kris Daniels agreed
Worth the watch. Well spoken and impressive presentation.
Ur an idiot
Inspirational to say the least. Great stuff worth a watch.
I agree! Embrace different can transform the world! Outstanding presentation!
Great talk, Kevin. We need more business people to embrace this message!
thanks for the great video!!!!!
Excellent reframing of the issue: helping others achieve the American Dream makes good business sense. Love the bit about sticking your neck out especially when you don't have to. Great job.
I love that he called it the human dream rather than the American dream because we are all different and diverse but we can all make it ☺️
Great talk. Many of the comments below missed the point and that is too bad. "There is a lot of opportunity if we all embrace difference." I appreciate the conviction of this message. Diversity + Inclusion. How often do you think about this in the things you do? Thanks. Well done.
It would have been better to hear what he's doing, instead of everything else he said.
Congratulations Kevin.
Nice job Kevin
"Americans and their own american dream?"
I would say many people from different countries around the world aspire for the american dream for the the reason that their own countries have been screwed as a cause of the power and control that the US has over them.
Can someone write down what he is saying? :)
16th placing? This was eye opening
humblebrag
This is irony as it's finest. It is guys like this who have crushed the American dream with greed.
Ok i captioned it😃
What was this a personal brag session? omfg
Not bragging, Kenneth. Sorry that my talk rubbed you that way. This isn't about me but is about a cause. I truly believe that a certain cohort of the working population has created barriers to achieving the American dream and I'm doing something to change that. Is that a bad thing?
fancy suit megalomaniac
GG.
The X in Tedx must stand for sux bc this is nauseating.
Wow, Hecter. Can we simply say "point missed?" If you were looking for an easy, bullet point memo with 3 steps for a small fee, good luck! This was about humanity and drive. Nothing nauseating in it for me. Maybe you should reconsider your diet.
Anyone here for captioning practice??😂
hi
Doesn't talk about what is causing the dream to be dead. Sounds like a coach or preacher. Like yeah, "Go, go, go put our minds together through innovation and art to solve the lost dream"! Who is he speaking to, who is the audience? Is he talking to intellectuals at a college?
يارب احلامي تصير حقيقه💖
ok
we haven't lost the American Dream
what
save your time and watch the next talk, this is a waste.
Allen Hatch exactly
this seems self-absorbed, insincere and very scripted.
