    Great info Simon explains a lot always suspected that different groups of carp spawned at different times. Interesting to hear your thoughts on the reasons and that males will be up for it whenever the females are ready to spawn.

    A great video
    And truly understand why the close season should be brought back on lakes 👍

    • @IntrinsicPalomides
      @IntrinsicPalomides Před 18 dny

      Well the issue there is that carp quite often spawn beyond the end of the traditional close season, which is why on most carp lakes it was done away with. Many will close the lake when spawning starts for differing periods of time.
      For our native species which are diurnal(which basically means they react to the length of day to trigger spawning) the closed season covers that almost perfectly, it's only tench that can spawn outside that window.

    Do carp not go on to eat the eggs that are spawned and fertilized? It's quite common to see lots of eggs getting eaten by carp. Not only carp eggs, but also the eggs of other fish. This is why carp are considered an invasive species, because after a few years, there are no other species left?

      @lachojski2005 Před 11 měsíci +1

      Plenty of “carp lakes” have roach Rudd break perch pike in them.have done for years,never heard of carp wiping a lake out of smaller fish.it’s normally the owners who take other fish out.

    • @pleasantville4529
      @pleasantville4529 Před 11 měsíci

      @@lachojski2005 I am only speaking of my personal experiences. My favourite lake used to hold a big head of quality tench, some big bream, so many roach of all sizes, plus crucians to specimen size. About 20 years ago, someone decided to introduce 250 small carp. Since then, the carp have grown to over 30lb, while it is now impossible to catch even a single fish other than carp. My experience lead to my comment, although I know commercials are awash with silvers, my favourite lake is now the domain of carp anglers only. Tight lines.

    • @Kingcarparpeggio
      @Kingcarparpeggio Před 11 měsíci

      They’re not an invasive species but equally they could be classed as non-indigenous as they were introduced to the UK several hundred years ago from Eastern Europe. As the previous commenter, I’ve never heard of carp wiping out silver fish,tench or bream but as he said fishery owners often remove them because nobody wants to fish for them. In fact the syndicate where I fish there are shedloads of tench and most are 7lb plus……catches of 20 to 50 tench are not uncommon.
