    • @coffee_5647
      @coffee_5647 Před 7 měsíci

      I guess I should say, I truly wish everyone who wanted access to an Aldi had that access. Aldi isn't everyone's cup of tea. For me, since I buy Walmart store brands quite often anyway, it makes more sense for me to get the Aldi brands significantly cheaper for the same items. A bagged salad kit is a dollar cheaper at my Aldi versus Walmart. 8 ounce package of pre-sliced cheese is 20 plus cents cheaper at my Aldi. One dozen store brand eggs is currently over a dollar cheaper at my Aldi. And so on. Over time, these savings add up, and I don't have to wait for sales or use coupons. Also, the in and out at Aldi is much quicker than at Walmart, and their dupes like coconut chia granola, organic, are very good and much cheaper than their brand name counterparts. Everyone has their own preferences and needs for grocery shopping. These are just some of the reasons why Aldi works best for me.
      My local Aldi is essentially right next to a Hy-Vee grocery store, and while I haven't done any formal comparisons, the prices in that store really scare me. For me, hyvee is only for items I can't get somewhere else, a loss leader deal, or for times when I'm in a rush like picking up medicine at the pharmacy for a sick family member.

      @@coffee_5647Yep 😔 Tuna is .85¢ a can at Aldi. Sardines are .95¢ a can at Aldi, $2.18 at Walmart. Best deal I found on ground beef is Kroger. They have "ground beef trimmings" which the butcher explained to me is all the beef scraps from cutting all the different beef cuts. Roasts, steaks, etc. it all gets ground up together so is actually a better quality than their 80/20 AND it's cheaper! 😃👍

    I'm in a unique area. I have 5 stores within walking distance of my home not that I walk but that's how close they are. I shop using the circulars. Buy one get one free deals are usually better than any claimed low price for a single item. We also use a local Costco. Paper goods are usually better priced although you need storage space. Some of the prepared meals are a excellent value. I buy some mostly for the convenience as well as their tasting good.
    I also have two European stores. A limited selection but priced well and some of the imports are very good.
    Because there are two of us a purchase goes a long way. we get two or even three meals out of some purchases. NY Strip steaks were on sale at my favorite store $6 off per lb. One steak feeds two of us. I bought two. A freezer is essential.
    We're retirees and we watch prices carefully. I have a lot of experience shopping. I was the oldest of 8 children and sometimes we'd be on welfare whenever my father had to be back in the mental institution. My mother made a list but left selection up to me and looking for deals for future meals if money was available. My wife and have the same arrangement. The menu growing up was different, more starches, giant bagged cereal, oatmeal, rice and macaroni. Vegetables and fruits. We rarely had meat. Giant pots of soups and stews. Three meals from a chicken. She rolled her own stuffed cabbage. I don't see anyone cooking like this any more.

      I do 🙋 because I have to. Homemade stews, soups, goulashes, casseroles, I can get pretty creative lol. Stuffed bell pepper is a meal for me. Pasta salads are easy to make and healthier than store bought ones. Rice and potatoes are VERY versatile. I can do a lot with rice & potatoes. When I boil meat save the stock for future use in gravies and soups. I waste nothing lol

      Families are gonna have to eat more casseroles and stir fry type meals to make food stretch plus buying those good deals on the loss leader's. I went to my local store and something kept telling me to take a few minutes to stroll the store (it's not a store to just do your weekly shopping in because it's so expensive). I went over to the meat section and they had spiral ham on sale for .99 cents a lb so I grabbed one so now I don't have to worry about my Easter ham. It's good to keep a price book of the things you/we buy often because then when we find a great deal then we can buy as much as we can. The week's I find good deals we just eat different because I spent my grocery money on the sales so we'll eat things like pancakes,waffles, or French toast for supper ❤. It can be done but it takes a lot of planning ❤.
