Answer: none it's a preference thing if you use upscroll and you face someone with your same skill level and they use downscroll they will not be better or worse then you some people find upscroll easier and others find downscroll easier
For me the downscroll directly is an improvement for those who got used to it or played rhythm games with it, I don't know if it's just me or if I see it that way, but I feel that when I put the downscroll (only on Funky Friday) The arrows go slower and more apart, which is advantageous for those who have already played with downscroll, I am an upscroll player since I did not grow up with any rhythm game or similar with downscroll or upscroll, the closest I get to playing was the club penguin in the rhythm game, so I only grew up with Friday Night Funkin the original game apart from that a long time later I realized that it could be downscroll but at that point playing with that option made me more clumsy. (Or who knows, maybe I'm just a crybaby, I don't consider myself a bad player but neither an expert, we could say that I am like a level below an osu player for example and if I know that I told you the bible and that nobody cares about me opinion but it is what I think :()
I'm an OSU and RoBeats player I've always used downscroll, I download mods that have options menu so I can play in downscroll and be able to play all the weeks not like Kapi and Sky mod where you can only play the mod weeks, because I feel uncomfortable playing on NewGrounds.
I personally prefer upscroll for Friday Night Funkin but for stuff like Robeats and OSU Mania! I like downscroll better(Mainly because FNF uses arrows instead of bars or dots)

As someone who learned the basics from Phigros and Kalpa, I struggle heavily with Upscroll mechanics. I don't know why flipping the screen upside down in Phigros makes it so hard too, but it does.
What I use: I would use upscroll, downscroll has a confusing mechanic to it, normally the notes would come from the bottom, but with downscroll, they come from the top. It's hard to focus with downscroll as well.

Interestingly, FNF is my first rhythm game ever yet I prefer downscroll over upscroll. My performance greatly improved when I discovered the downscroll option in the game's settings. Upscroll feels very unnatural to me, when I try to use it I have a tendency to press the keys too early and miss the notes.

My only rhythm game experience before FNF was Piano Tiles and that one game from Supercell. But FNF was my first full-fledged PC rhythm gaming experience. Using upscroll was painful, also I was hesitating to use downscroll, but did it. After few hours of rewiring my brain it felt much better. Maybe because downscroll is generally closer to keyboard, where my fingers are, don't know. Also, saying that upscroll is better because it is the default one in FNF is cringe, FNF was made for gamejam, had generally awful GUI and input system with optimization, even now we are waiting for official FNF game that won't completely suck ass compared to normal rhythm games

In CZcams I like watching it on up scroll but on my gameplay I use up scroll bc sometimes when I use down scroll it’s like kind of hard to read the notes bc ur not used to look down bc in the original fnf they choose if it’s down scroll or up scroll and then u play so it’s different then funky friday but in ipad, Mobile, android and others I recommend using upscroll and for pc, computer or laptop I recommend downscroll bc it has a bigger screen and easier to read.
