- Virginia’s “escape-proof” Death Row is a cage, and the men who reside there are animals. But one Spring day in 1984, some of the animals got out.

These were very clever men. The interesting thing is how brilliant they are within the prison and how hopeless they are on the outside.
That's sad
They were nothing but worthless lowlifes that should have been set on fire and sent to Hell
that sums it up pretty well...their plan to escape was brilliant but obviously didnt have much of a plan once they got out.
The prisoners aren’t smart but the guards are dumb

I live in Mecklenburg County Virginia, about 12 miles from the prison, which is shut down now, and there are a lot of locals that were around when this happened and helped search. Their stories are great to listen to.
Can you tell us one of them, please?
@@alexandra6542 the one that sticks out in my mind was the one my father in law told. As word spread in this very rural county, men began to load up in pick up trucks and ride around with loaded shotguns, rifles etc just looking for these men, trying to help law enforcement but at that time they weren't even sure who they were looking for. Just general descriptions because this was the mid 80's. He always said you could feel the fear in the air. People were terrified because they had no idea which way the men went, would they kill again, etc. Back then nobody locked their doors and it wasn't easy to get the word out. Men patrolled all night long over this county and surrounding areas. He said he was completely shocked that no one got hurt or injured because so many people were scared and just out looking but in a sense they didn't know who they were looking for.

I wonder why the prison closed.

It seems to be so common in these ingenious escape stories, that their plan for what to do outside the prison is really lacking.
Good observation. The two multiple murderers that escaped rather ingeniously, through ductwork, into the sewer system, and came up through a manhole several blocks away, are another great example. They had outside help, a woman who worked in the kitchen smuggled in various tools inside of frozen ground beef. The one guy also started a fake affair with her. It was years in the planning. They got away, but once out, they had no backup plan in case their lady friend didn’t show. She didn’t. They had no means of getting to Canada, nowhere to hide, no supplies, nothing. They were caught after about 10 days in the woods and separating. One surrendered and sits in solitary. The other decided for suicide by cop. He aimed a stolen rifle at the officer and was shot dead. The woman who realized too late she was a pawn, freaked out and went to the hospital feigning heart attack and mental symptoms. She was later arrested and is in the same prison.

HAHA...love the description, "some of the animals got out."
7:41 " most of them killed once, and would kill again if given another chance". They were given another chance, they could have easily killed the prison guards, but they didn't
They didn't kill the guards because they didn't have control and hadn't escaped yet. Without knowing for sure that they are free, killing someone would put another charge on them and put them in solitary for the rest of their life.
I guess they're not the target and they are in a hurry for escape
And one of culprit gave up and handed himself to police just bcs of hunger and frustrated lol what a joke
Well, they didnt want those that stayed behind to help him take the rap. Well, if I was in the death row I would take a chance to escape the prison. Even I stay there I get executed anyways. Why not take a last tiny chance to survive which only chance was to escape?
In any state that has the death penalty I, would feel sorry for those people on death row not, because they are fixing to be executed is only because they won't have their 19 days. Is just like one death row inmate gave his last words saying to the warden saying: at least I had my 19 days.
