I have played some amazing games, lost lots of amazing characters but Joel's death still hurts. I hate what naughty dog did but I get it.

I think we all loved joel at one point, and it was very sad. But also, at the same time, in the second game he would have been very old from everything and probably would have died a little after from old age if it didn't happen. And again, by the second game, he would have been a fully maxed out character and had aged very much. (Like i just said) By then, (I'm not saying i would have), but a lot of people would also probably be tired of him in the game because he already has all the buffs, etc. (Hope this made sense)
