I appreciate this. We definitely want our child to have as much of a normal life as possible. We're both fully aware of the damaging effects social media can have so we'll take it day by day and do what we can to give them a healthy childhood. X

Just a friendly tip for teaching your child two languages: my parents thought me French and English in a very clever way. My dad only spoke to me in French and my mom only spoke to me in English. My dad would pretend not to understand me if I spoke English around him and same for my mom, except instead she didn't understand French. They also balanced the amount of media I consumed, I watched movies and tv shows in both languages, same for reading books. To this day (I am 30 years old), I still speak to them in their respective languages. It honeslty feels weird if I speak the opposite language. Haha!
I think about this all the time because my husband and I speak 3 languages. Do you know how to write in your second language or just speaking? Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
my parents taught me english and korean in the same way!!
in addition, i went to an american school in korea but when i moved to the states, i kept myself updated with all the korean music and korean shows.
my dominant language is english but with my mom and korean media, i never forgot korean :)

What I'm doing with my son is that since we are Mexican and live in Mexico. He is learning Spanish in his surroundings and by interacting and being in school obviously. We teach him English at home where he also watches movies and shows in English. He is pretty bilingual. Everyone seems surprised and he is only 5. The key is usually beung persistent and balancing the languages

When Jenn said, "One of the beauties of getting older is recognizing the similarities you have with your parents and forgiving the ones you don't like" I felt that. I'm only 23 but I'm at that point where I finally accepted that my Filipino/Asian parents aren't perfect. They're just trying their best. Love this video!
Love that you've found that appreciation for your parents, Isabelle. Unfortunately most of us learn this stuff when we become parents so the earlier you can see that your parents are trying their best to their capability the better we'll all be.

As someone that doesnât want kids, I find it fascinating how excited I am for your family. Maybe because I can genuinely tell youâre going to be amazing parents. And since I donât have that maternal gene in me, Iâm glad there are others out there that are becoming parents for the right reasons.

I'm Scottish born and bred and my husband is Canadian. Both our boys were born in Canada, but when they were little we spent about 18 months in England for my husband's job. Our older boy had a little bit of nursery, then about a year of reception class - he had the CUTEST English accent when we returned to Canada, and it held on for a while, but pretty soon he was saying toe-MAY-toe again! So take them when they are young (I still have a Scottish accent and I've been here for nearly 30 years!). All the best!

Whether or not they pick up either of your personality traits or develop their own unique one, I feel like because you two always put forth your best (and both your bests are pretty frickin' awesome), this baby will be smart and capable enough of drawing from both your energies as needed! So going out your way to surround yourself with people that can show love is important. Each time Jenn talks about seeing eye to eye with your parents and understanding and appreciating the things that they have done for you, it hits me hard. As I have grown older (just 27), I have made it a "mission" to talk many of those things through with my mother, but also offering my thoughts and values, and for the past couple of years, I have been able to identify how they have shaped me, but also how I have shaped them, and it is honestly so rewarding for both of us.
Side note: As a child of two incredible people, who have different strengths and are so good at using them together, you can feel a bit average because your parents seem like a supercouple haha! I wish I could have the skills and brains of both of them!
