  • Dorothy Day is one of the most influential American figures of the 20th century. Through the Catholic Worker Movement, a collection of communities dedicated to hospitality and service to the poorest, which she co-founded, she fought all her life against exclusion, poverty, social and racial injustice. In a period marked by numerous world conflicts, she took a radical stand in favour of pacifism. She combined a life of prayer, inspired by the Bible and the saints, with a life of action at the heart of the social struggles of her time. With her, let us embrace this dynamic in the footsteps of Christ: "what we want to do is change the world".

We certainly need more of these Dorothy Day Hospitality Houses around the world to help with our homeless and employment crises. There doesn't seem to be many useful solutions to those problems. Also, kicking God out of our lives has added to the despair and hopelessness we see so much of.

We need the Roman Catholic Church to follow her example
