Just a bit of history for you, if you freeze the clip at 6:50 abd those grooves in the sandstone are from Patton's tanks when they were driving through Dudeldorf .
That so cool see you guys drive over die Autobahn. Your Piax is bigger the the piax we had in Mannheim.
Congrats, Calvin..you're a better bike rider than I! I always sucked at riding bikes for some reason. Aww sleepy Calvin was so cute haha
He did awesome! Bout to take him out to do it again!
😍😍 he really is so precious 😍
Wow riding without training wheels is like a major milestone, he'll want to ride everywhere. Love to see you guys doing family drives. 🍀🍀
I told him he'd be riding around the back yard with zeek in no time ha ha. We do a lot of them! lol
where can i get the musik in end of your vids?
I was stationed at Spang in 1971/2. Being in the Army but stationed on an AFB was like dying and going to heaven,......most Army posts in Germany were terribly dismal,....and those guys seemed to always be camping out in the boonies, or going to Grafenvere on war games. I'm getting pretty old now and probably not going to get a chance to return to the area,.....but it was nice getting another look at that beautiful countryside. Cheers.
Oh wow, so you were living the high life on one of our fancy bases 😋 thats awesome. Well we're glad we could take you back for a bit.
Next time you are in the Spang area you should check out a town called Malberg, it has a decent size castle in town.
Calvin's head shake I feel like I've seen Travis do the same thing 😂😂
They're like twins sometimes. It's ridiculous ha ha
I am the same way, I like my face about 40% of the time 😂 put the cardigan in the wash but hang it up to dry, that might help but I don’t know. “McGuire size” 😭😭😭😭😂😂😂 pray for us to get out of jersey and somewhere cool and amazing and not cold. Kinda weird that everything is closed on Sundays. Germany towns are so cute and small, I’m jealous. Can’t wait for the Q&A!!!
Ha ha ha ha, I don't know why I don't like it some days ha ha.
I tried that! That's what made it do that! ha ha ha ha.
It was the one I knew well enough to compare it to 😅😅
I'll be praying!!
We were gonna film the Q&A yesterday but once we got home weren't feeling it ha ha.
I love you girl!
Love you tooooo!!!! 😍😍
Thai iced teas are my fav! We went to Thailand in November and that was all I drank while we were there. Thai food is one of my favs lol
And that area you guys drove through is picturesque Germany! Like when I think of Germany, that’s what I think of. That’s so awesome
I looooooooove me some Thai Iced tea!! It's so freaking good! I kinda wanna get stuff to make it but I think I would never drink water again 😅😅
Girl, me. too!!!!! I told Travis the same thing. It's all beautiful like that! It's like living in a dream lol
Great vlog. :)
Restaurants, Icecream cafés, Cinemas, public pools, amusement parks etc. are usually open on sundays :). They often opt to close on Mondays instead. But yeah, since I grew up in Rhineland Palatinat, I know that everything can seem a little dead on Sundays (and in general tbh). My family likes to go on walks on sundays, and spends some quality family time on the sofa basically just chillin. Saturday can be a little stressfull though, cause then you have that little time window in which you can go shopping for clothes and groceries. A fews years ago, shops would even close by 12-1pm on Saturdays, just imagine the stress. Luckily, it's not like that anymore. At least not as often.
btw. do shops in the US go on for several miles? The one you were in seemed incredibly huge for me, I'd definitely get lost ^^
I hope you get to see one of the carnival parades around today. :) Children usually love it and it's not something you get to see everywhere.
Unfortunately today was total mayhem so we didn't get to go to a parade, but I wish we could have.
That's good to know. Unfortunately Travis cannot just sit all day lol. He will go crazy. I love days that I don't have to leave the house and can just take care of what needs taken care of but he needs to be going places and doing things. It's not very cost effective but I try to find things we can do that don't cost 🙈 I enjoy taking walks and love when we can take zeek as well - we need calvin to get a little stronger at riding his bike without training wheels so we can go on some cool walks/hikes.
Shops don't go on for miles ha ha. The BX on Ramstein is just the largest in the world so everyone thinks the BX on Spangdahlem is so small. I don't think it was that small but we've seen smaller ones before ha ha. I definitely got lost in the bx on ramstein for the first couple weeks ha ha
Omg Thai orchidee is my favorite place ever 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Rhineland Palatinat is the best Rhineland AND the best Palatinat. Just sharing my completely unbiased opinion as I live there. And that store looked huge to me.
Due to pcs there soon. What's the name of the restaurant ?
Thai Orchidee
Is that the spangdalem housing they offer family's? I'm gonna be stationed there in a good few months
I believe so. I’m sure there’s more else where but most of the housing there is like most of the housing here - stairwells. They’re apartments.
Are you still there?
@@philipp4931 I just came home from spangdahlem actually
That BX didn't look like it was that small xD Is the one in Ramstein really so much bigger?
You definitely have to visit Heidelberg sometime. It is a lovely city, which recently got voted to be in the Top 5 of the nicest/most beautiful cities. And it is not too far away from you too.
Yes the Ramstein BX is the largest in the world. 🤗
But theres a lot of outside shops as well as the Exchange inside.
We will definitely visit Heidelberg sometime!
True love 😂 I need someone who would vacuum me 😂
Right?! Ha ha. It was his idea too lol
Project Wink that makes it even better lol
GO CALVIN!
1970 the barracks, chow hall
And picadilly. Hi. Ike.
I live in Dudeldorf

Good JOb Calvin
We are moving here in July.. :)
Awesome!! Let me know if you have any questions! 😍
Hello Friends! 😁
nice video! (FULL WATCHED) 😁 LIKE#63👍✨✨✨✨✨ Ciao
Nice video as always. A hint on the pronounciation of Straße, you're already pronouncing the "e" which is good, and the "Str" is pronounced like "Shtr". Lesson 6 towards the end: www.dw.com/de/deutsch-lernen/deutschtrainer-lektionen/s-32889
Even if you don't know much vocabulary yet, repeating the sentences from the lessons is a good way to tune your ear to the German language. If you really want to learn German, there's no way around studying grammar and vocabulary, either by yourself or taking a basic group course at the local adult education center or a language school. Being in a foreign country normally kick-starts the learning and enables swift progress, but you're in a special situation that you're relatively cocooned from the actual culture, unless you choose otherwise. That "substitute-USA" of the various bases and facilities must be an integral part in softening the blow of moving to a different country, as well as being very convenient and comforting, but it's also preventing the type of total immersion that would stimulate the fastest learning results.
I love languages, i would relish the chance to become decent e.g. in Japanese in a full-immersion situation. While a daunting task, it's a formidable challenge and exercise for the brain. I think the key is to use what you already learned, and don't be afraid of making mistakes. They are inevitable, everyone else is aware of that and will appreciate your effort, rather than thinking badly of you. They will be delighted that you're making an effort.
I don't think we're cocooned. The idea of being overseas isn't for everyone and the military understand that so they give us this place (on base) that lets us feel normal, at home - it is definitely to soften the blow. Because unfortunately there are a lot of people that don't want to be here. That don't want to live abroad or be in a foreign country. We are kind of rare in the fact that we are so so happy to be here and want to learn all that we can. No I haven't learned all that Id want to at this point but I've also had a lot of other things going on. We do the best we can. We make an attempt and that says a lot - if you knew the kinds of people there are on base, that don't want to learn, that don't want to be here; you would understand that a lot more I think.
Also, having come from a totally different country that is not our own - we've had a pretty serious transition in learning how to function in a foreign country, knowing their language and their customs to moving to a totally different country, learning their customs and their language.
Along with both of us working (me at a new job), Travis trying to advance in his career and not feel behind because of the unfortunate work situations he's been in, keeping our family happy, helping Calvin thrive, while I try to vlog every bit of it and post videos about it every. single. day., then there's trying to explore enough, but keep the house well maintained, all of us getting enough exercise and eating decent meals, we're also trying to learn a new language and new etiquette in the process. It's a lot.
I don't know many 25 year olds that could handle the lives we live. 🙂
Indeed, and i have a lot of respect for you. From the insight you allow us into your lives, i am impressed with your parenting and how you manage everything. Especially taking into account your age, hats off. My comment wasn't meant to criticize you either, maybe i forgot to put a smiley here and there :) I think the base is a blessing for some and a curse for others. Were some of those "unwilling" people forced to go out and interact more with the Germans in their city etc., they might grow to like it more. Being as it is, they never have to set foot in a German store, restaurant etc. if they choose not to, and that's a bit sad. I'd view living in a foreign country as a great learning and personality-growing opportunity, something you can draw from for decades to come. I am glad you think along the same lines. I mean, why would anybody be miserable for several years, that's just a negative mindset, i have no time for that, haha.
my sister and her husband are Stationed at Spang (he's a maintainer, although they are 3 months from PCSing out.); incredibly, when this video was uploaded, I was there in germany visiting them for the very first time, and had been there for 3 days already, and was preparing for our trip to Weringerode to ride the Harz mountain steam railway . and yes, Spangdahlem's BX is small, but its a small base; but I was not prepared on how massive and mall like Ramstein's BX was. (the largest BX I had been to at that point was the one on Fort Campbell Army Airfield in Fort Campbell, KY) germany is a very beautiful country, and you should take every opportunity you can on exploring it.
Oh that’s so cool 🙂 thanks for sharing that. We really love it here. 🤗
I don’t think the Spangdahlem bx is tiny, unless compared to the one on ramstein. I’ve definitely been to smaller bx’s 😄
I hope you enjoyed your time here 🤗 we sure are.
Uhhhhhh.... Take care of the little moth, otherwise I'll get him for me. ;-)
