      There's always the temptation to write characters like this as insufferably arrogant asses, so the more "practical" hero characters can show they tread the middle ground better. (Sort of how the Tolon came off) But they didn't do that with the Nox. They wrote them as completely understanding the middle way, but still rejecting it, in very "human" fashion of debate and experience. The Nox didn't have an ideology, they had personal principals, and they stuck to them.

Mind you, this is only 7 episodes in, the first couple dealt exclusively with the initial Goa'uld threat, so this is one of the FIRST exploration episodes in the show. It sets the entire thing up to be a civilization with primitive ways and technology. Sure, they can personally become invisible, but they still appeared primitive. Not really. Asgard and Ancients are far above them. LoL even Goa'uld learnt how to do "cloaking" and in the later seasons they managed to hide even motherships with it.
      The only feat that is actually unparaleled is their revival of Aphopis and even that could be done with Goa'uld technology(sarcophagus, which was derived from ancient healing device).
      Yes, they are certainly above most races, maybe even in TOP5, but certainly not the most advanced, nor the second.

      @@HanithSVK The Goa'uld scavenged literally ALL their tech, so they aren't even worth mentioning. "Advanced" is an odd term, as if we are talking pure technology, you'd be right. From an Evolution perspective, I'd argue the Nox are at the top with the Alterans. They literally can cloak, or heal, or dial the stargate, via their minds.

    • @HanithSVK
      @HanithSVK Před rokem +3

      @@KS-xk2so Can they though? I agree with Alterans(better said Ancients cause Ori were of the same origin, they split with Alterans cause of the religious views) but Nox? We have no idea if they abilities are natural or some form of tech advancement(artificial gene therapy or form of nanotechnology in their bodies or smt like that). But it is shame that they did not continue Nox storyline, cause all we can do now is guess. But let's just say you are right and they are the most advanced race currently in galaxy. Why they do not ascend? They are IDEAL race for it. They would be safe, their pacifism and non-interfence are EXACTLY the qualities ascended beings(like alterans) enforce. So why are they staying in the physical world?
      Even Asgard can open the gate without the "whoosh" as we saw doing Thor several times. Not to mention that we saw that Asgard has an ability to erase someone mind with just wave of their hands(as when they removed ancient knowledge from O'Neill's brain first time they encountered the that Repository).
      And technically, Tau'ri in the Stargate universe are also scavengers. Most of their tech is repurposed alien tech(asgard, Goa'uld or Ancient) so by this logic even Tau'ri should not be mentioned.
      Hell even Thor admitted, that some of the knowledge they posses were extracted from the Ancient Repository of Knowledge(and he also admitted that they are "studying it for as long as he remembers and they are still just scratchin the surface".
      Very few races achieved their technological level on their own(actually the only ones that come to my mind are Wraith, Tollans and Ancients(both Ori and Alterans)).
      (I am not counting SG:Universe cause i haven't watch it).
      But, in both Pegasus galaxy AND milky way, most space-travelling races were scavengers.

Thinking of oneself as infallible, better than others and being entitled to something others aren't, that generally speaking will stand in once and others ways.

    This episode really altered the way I looked at the world and humanity. If you consider humanity to be one being, a super-organism, you realise just how young we are. Until recently, we believed that might makes right, and simply took whatever we wanted. This is very typical for young children. Now, we think money makes right, are obsessed with social status, wealth, and comparing who has the most "stuff". We also think popularity contests are the best way to decide everything (democracy). We... we're middle schoolers, around 11 on a global scale.
