  • Let's walk around the homes of the Detroit Lions, Tigers, Pistons & Red Wings! Oh my! Football, Baseball, Basketball & Hockey, all within a few blocks of each other. It wasn't always this convenient, until recently. The Lions used to be out at the Pontiac Silverdome, the Pistons at the Palace of Auburn Hills, the Tigers over on Michigan Ave, and the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on the waterfront. Now they're all part of "The District Detroit." In this video we start off behind the LCA, where the Pistons and the Red Wings play. There's a plaza big enough for small concerts, a biergarten, and some great views of the restoration being done on the old Hotel Eddystone; one of two hotels that were acquired for the LCA deal with the caveat that one of them be restored. It's being converted into apartments, and I'd say it's coming along nicely. Too bad they tore the sister building down, though. But, such is the price of progress sometimes... We continue to wrap around the back of LCA and capture an homage to several of Detroit's famous athletes and entertainers. Can you name them all? As we finish walking the Woodward Avenue side of the building, we cross I-75 and make our way past Hockeytown Cafe; a favorite spot for many sporting fans before and after games. Located across Woodward Ave from there are the other two stadiums. As we cross over, there's some good view of what was previously known as Foxtown, due to the predominant Fox Theater, with its neighboring Fillmore Theater (previously State Theater) and the Little Caesars World Headquarters building sandwiched in between. The next stadium we come upon is Comerica Park, home of the Tigers. As you'll see, there's no mistaking what team calls this home. As we round the corner, another hot spot is the Tin Roof, where we can hear some live music (it's sooo good to hear live music again). According to the schedule, it's performed by @meandjoesmith, so go give them a follow if you dig it. Lastly, we come up on the home of the Lions, Ford Field. Another go-to spot is just outside the front door, known as the Elwood Bar & Grill. Now you know all the places to go when you come to town for a game. Due to ongoing Covid vaccinations at Ford Field, 3/4 of the place was surrounded by security, so the front is about all we get to see of that one. It's honestly more impressive from the sky or indoors anyways. As we wrap up the video, we catch one of the most iconic views you can put on your Instagram, the two stadiums sandwiching a view of the Renaissance Center down Brush Street. Enjoy the video and I hope you can make it downtown for a game some time :)
