Ugh my psycho ex had my head so twisted I once told him I expected him gone by the time I got home from work. He wasn't. He begged to just hold my hand to talk to me and explain. She had no clothes with her, so his sister bought her a whole wardrobe of "fashionable" outfits. (It was the 60s, these were hippy clothes Mom would never wear.) The sister also insisted Dad likes redheads and dyed Mom's hair, not taking no for an answer.
A justice of the peace married them. Mom didn't even get a white dress, because she had been briefly married before, and his family were very traditional about this. So the only wedding photo that exists is of my dad in a casual suit and some redhead in a yellow dress that looks like it came from Jackie Kennedy's wardrobe. I was not convinced that this was my mom, and couldn't believe my dad (who was awesome in every way) would do all that.
TLDR: my dad kidnapped my mom, changed her into his perfect woman, and forced her to marry him.
Somehow, they've lasted over 50 years.

There was no splitting up of property or assets. Many women didn’t have education to get a job. Many women were stuck and getting things like a phone line without a man’s signature were very difficult (my mom left in early 70’s. 5 years later she took my dad to court as he had paid not a cent in child support). We owe a lot to the women’s movement in the 70’s!

My mom told me this the other day, but my step dad would stay over at her house overnight and not sleep. He would literally just watch her all night because he was afraid she would leave. And when she made him go home, he would sit in her driveway and stare at her house for hours.
And yet, she married him. Of course it was a terrible decision, and of course they're still married and miserable.

Now had it been a 20 or 21 year old Grandpa who is a bootlegger who one day happened upon seeing 14 year old grandma whilst she was walking home from school and was immediately "smitten" (never mind that she is a literal child.) as he drove by her in his model-T with a rumble seat that had hidden compartments on the car for running "Hooch," and decided to follow her home to ask her father if he could marry her and dear old Great G-pa decided to sell Grandma out because he had too many daughters and he happened to be a wee bit of the town drunk. Ugh my psycho ex had my head so twisted I once told him I expected him gone by the time I got home from work. He wasn't. He begged to just hold my hand to talk to me and explain. I grudgingly agreed and found myself handcuffed to him and a promise ring shoved onto my finger as he begged\demanded that we stay together. Stupid me was won over by the fact that be actually put in the effort to ride the bus to the pawn shop to get the cuffs and ring and was willing "to risk everything for love." To my abused and neglected self it seemed so romantic. Now knowing what I know about his criminal behavior I wonder if the cuffs were something he already had and the ring was taken from one of his other victims.

OMG, I have this moment with friend of friend who dating this very famous actor of my country then started telling us about how one night he scrolled through her instagram to 2016 which they not even know each other yet and called her to yell at her in the middle of the night then blamed her for making him not prepared for shooting the next day. Everyday she has to take a selfie of her outfit and if he’s not agree with it she has to change. Now he meet all her friends and start to isolate her from any friends he’s not approved. Really hope you keep reacting to this because I loved your reaction and commentary. The movie is plot wise closer to the original novel, but I would say the series is actually more faithful to the novels as far as the characters, their relationships, and the vibe of the story.
