  • A long overdue update! Unfortunately a setback, but I'm still alive, and that means I've got stuff to do!
    Here are the bulletpoints:
    - Last surgery 7 weeks ago (iliostomy removal), no complications
    - Back at work & the gym for over a month, but taking it easy still
    - New CT scans show 1 new tumor in my liver, more and growing tumors in my lungs
    - Next: bronchioscopy (camera down my lungs, to get a biopsy of the lung nodules)
    - Plans for the future: camping trip, Mexico vacation & sharing my treatment approach with the world
My huge and sincere thanks & appreciation for all of your prayers, encouragement and support. I love all of you, and wish you rich, healthy lives with tons of adventure :)

Saw your "farewell" video a few days ago. Now in hospice, no further treatment. Time measured now in days......
Dan, you're a hero to many. I'm truly grieving for you but grateful you came into my life. Maybe we will meet someday, somewhere, somehow. I hope so......
    Peaceful journey, Dr. Dan.

I lost my whole colon to cancer, and i was given something called a J-pouch. It's basically a reservoir vreated from a couple of loops of small intestine. Many people do very well with this, unfortunately I i developed a stricture between the bottom of the jpouch and ny rectum, despitee many stretches it's meant I can no longer longer cope with much veg- a problem as im a vegetarian. He tried chemo to prolong his life. He was on Gemzar? And it blew out his remaining lung. I think he would have lived longer and felt better without the chemo. It is one thing if there is hope that chemo will cure you but quite another if it is only to prolong life and you make you feel miserable.

Hey Dan, Just wanted to key in. I was Stage 1 CRC and went Stage 4 inside of a year. So don't feel to bad about your situation imagine me lol. How big of a slap in the face is that? THe only positive thing is i have no signs of disease except for a single liver lesion on the right side that's about 2.4cm. IT wasn't able to be diagnosed through imaging but it's probably cancer. I'm pretty brutal about my survival to my wife and friends. I don't think i'll be around for very much longer. Yes the conologist is like we can still cure. But I mean c'mon I had a 96% chance of it not coming back and it did lol. So you're telling me 40% chance is better? please. The Oncologist was trying to explain the difference of advancing to stage 4 from a different stage has a better prognosis of cure when it's only a single mets to the liver. Crazy thing is the nurse that assisted on the biopsy was stage 4 breast cancer for 14 years mets to the liver. her original diagnosis was stage 2 when she was 22 she's 38 now. Doesn't even do treatment. and hasn't for the last 4 years.

If colon cancer spreads to lungs or liver, is still colon cancer and biologically different than a lung cancer or liver cancer and treated differently. I'm so sorry this has happened.
I've had cervical cancer that came back twice after surgery and also after radiation. I was initially stage 1 then it spread to lungs and I became stage 4 and given 1 year average survival. I got chemo and I also took some "off-label"/"repurposed " drugs like Mebendazole, Atorvastatin, Metformin and Doxycycline and I was prescribed these drugs by a clinic called Care Oncology. I was very lucky that the combo of this protocol plus chemo actually worked and I've now been NED for 2 years. I inially insisted on followup PET-CT scans every 3 months but now we've reduced the frequency. I hope luck will be on your side too.

Thank you for the encouragement, and for clarifying that terminology! I didn't explain that very clearly in the video.
Yes -- when cancer spreads to a new place, it's still the same cancer (colon, in my case), in another organ (liver & lung in my case). They'll also describe this as a "primary" cancer (where it all started), and "secondary" cancer (in the organ(s) it spread to.
I am sooo glad to hear you're on the other side of your experience!! Very inspiring, and I'm hoping to get to the place you're in right now! Thank you for sharing, and I wish you a long, healthy life!

There is statistical evidence that regular exercise can improve outcomes. That doesn't mean it is a magical shield against cancer and I don't believe Dr. Dan or any other sane medical professional or researcher claims that it is. It simply improved the odds.
Of course, one must consider that it may be a chicken or egg situation. Perhaps the less active study participants were less active because they were simply more unwell to begin with. It's not as if there is a way to find even two patients in identical physical condition, never mind enough for a clinically significant research program.
At any rate, there is certainly no indication that it could be harmful to get reasonable amount of regular exercise

I'm confused. I didn't think metastatic colon cancer to the lung would then be considered lung cancer? My mother's spread from her colon to the brain but it wasn't brain cancer it just spread

Yes, it can be confusing. The difference is, if the cancer spreads, the first place it started is considered the primary cancer. Any place as it spreads to are considered secondary cancers.
So even though my primary cancer is colon, if it spreads to the liver or lungs, they would be considered secondary liver and lung cancers, the way I understand it.
I’m very sorry to hear about your mother, I know that must be a terrible experience to go through.

@@DrDanSays yes it was 9 years ago and none of us had any knowledge of cancer and handled it all wrong and left so many deep regrets. She passed within 4 months of them finding it. It's why I've since educated myself on cancers so that when it arises again in the family I'll feel somewhat confident in helping and handling it. You've taught me so much thank you. Since those lung tumors laid dormant for so long perhaps immunotherapy could stop their growth indefinitely. I hope for the best for you

So its rectum removed, and not anus? So both sfinkters are intact? My father had a total colectomy in the 90s and they built a reservoir (to replicate the rectums "holding capasity") from his small bowel, so that when both sfinkters intact makes him only use the bathroom maybe 6-8 times a day. Maybe it will get better for you in time, but 30 times a day sounds really rough

This is very misleading. He talks about the tumours in his liver as ‘liver cancer' and the spots in his lungs as 'lung cancer'. They are not. They are secondary or metastatic colorectal tumours.
