Great video Luke, my little boy sits and watches also because he loves looking at cars, vans and trucks traveling along the roads haha. I will be made redundant from my job in just over a year so will be following in your footsteps. I have always loved the idea of driving trucks because I love driving anyway be it day, night, busy or empty roads.
Keep up the good work, it keeps us entertained and lets me know what I am in for.

Yo Luke ! As a retired hvg1 my biggest gripe was when tramping getting on time to your slot then they keep you all day & when you ask are we allowed to use the staff canteen & the answer is an abrupt NO , Tesco maybe the worst for this attitude yet some companys were fabulous . Container work must admit your correct its boring but good in the winter months at least you stay warm and dry , Think i used to enjoy the markets mainly because it was a quick tip . Did a few years on international & you got respect 100% even to the point of pointing you to cafes & paying whilst they loaded you or tipped you but the big boys wrecked that with the likes of Norberts / Stobarts started back load prices just to pay for fual and undercutting the small haulage comp s . Stop doing that when the turnove started drying up. Biggest shock was new to me in many respects were the parcel hubs, double deckers & your supposed to unload on to the ramps all the roll cages , I think this was to save them employing unloading staff but i got around that, saying can i see your insurance if i get injured, their was never any comments just dagger looks but i got unloaded fast, many storys to tell but i think the greatest effect on the haulage industry as a whole was when Polish/Romainian were comming over in droves with only Army training on class 1 s , this depressed wages and agencys expanded which in turn stopped job swops if you were not happy somewhere, in the short term employers gained drivers but the quality went down badly & long termers left for an easier lifestyle and some selfrespect , Grrrrrrrrrr end of moans Lol ! Ex HGV 1 owner operator now retired but still kept up my paperwork except this dam CPC crap.

H Luke, recently found your videos and have been binging them lately! the only suggestion I have is, if possible you should flip your in-cab video left->right. I think this would be great as when you are talking about something on one side of your truck you would be looking at the correct side in the video? something happens on the left, you look to the left when at the moment you look right?
Anyways, keep up the great content!
i work at oak furniture land (swindon) and real container work (manual) is not easy , so think yourself blessed that your able to sit in your truck and let others unload your containers for you.

Good vid. I don’t like container work for the exact same reasons. I am very happy know doing tanker work load my self and tip myself. And also the company I work for has a good top spec fleet and family run. Key thing is don’t let the job or work get to you. Drive safe
When I was living at Cricklade, they were planning the Blunsdon Bypass. I notice in this vlog that it's built. Then I realise I left Cricklade 13 years ago.
Really enjoy your channel. Just a point - At 10.45 the signage indicated that the left did not 'split off'. If the left turn sign is above the main sign with an inclined arrow it is just a slip road from lane 1. If the signs are level (side by side) it indicates that the carriageway splits.:)
Hmmmm, interesting, but I don't quite follow your logic there - I would say he was correct and the sign was wrong....but the problem is there's just no consistency across the UK in how they show this. In many other locations the "rule" is that the main sign overhead will be the full width of all the lanes in which the main road continues, with the supplementary junction sign above, on the left. In this case the M25 sign didn't extend over lane 1 - suggesting that lane 1 will cease to continue to be the M25 and split off to the junction. I think that's the most common way of signing it ....

That exit from Watford B&Q is certainly busy with fast-moving cars. I live 2 miles away and often come round there - usually heading for one of the stores shown in your video. Yes, B&Q do have two stores there on that site - the main one and the timber & trade shop. They also have two Screwfix outlets within a mile or two.

The sign layout at 10:46, with the exit sign on top of the straight-on sign, is the standard sign layout used to indicate that there is an exit without a lane drop.
The straight-on sign only happens to be across the right 3 lanes because that's the size needed for the sign, the fact it isn't physically located over lane 1 is immaterial.
When there is a lane drop, the panels will be arranged left-to-right, with down arrows over each lane, indicating where each lane goes, e.g. goo.gl/maps/YTpLWiTDMxE2

Not you personally but how much money can be earned driving these ? I'm a scaffolder and have a class 2 because we work of the lorries but you make driving for a living so appealing. Enjoy the vids keep it up👍
I earn up to £725 a week.
guaranteed at least £600 a week ( and that is being home every night.) the £725 is if I'm out every night.

Just be careful that it is something you are sure you want to do, 2 things you need to have are a love of driving and not being concerned about being away from home/tramping. Luke makes it look appealing because he loves his job but it isn't for everyone so keep that in mind.

What do you think of the MAN ?
I drive a MAN and prefer it to the other units, Better lay out and more comfortable.
I drive a 14-plate MAN TGS, although we also have Volvo's at my place. A lot of the drivers prefer the Volvo's and refuse to drive the MANs. Personally I find the Volvo's nicer to drive (much better gearbox, much more maneuverable - I'd say the turning circle on the MAN is a good 5-6 feet worse than the Volvo's, more often on our tighter sites I have to take a shunt or two more than I would normally in a Volvo) but the MANs have a much nicer cab. Not as well built, but comfortable and designed for a driver to be spending hours in the cab. I find the Volvo's have uncomfortable seats. Oh, MANs have absolute shite exhaust brakes, and I don't like the massive steering wheel and lack of adjustment for the wheel/seat that doesn't seem to go high enough. I like the larger mirrors on the MAN cabs as you can see a lot more down the side, whereas Volvo's have the angled mirror at the top which cuts too much visibility off for my liking - that being said the Volvo's have less blind spots behind the mirrors; in a MAN you can lose an entire car behind the mirror, say when looking to the right at a roundabout. Both got their disadvantages and advantages. Volvo's have a much more comfortable mattress.
I think mans are rubbish bad gearbox,uncomfortable mattress,very old school dash,always breaks down,not a great lorry compare to scania,daf,Volvo,Renault,iveco man is miles behind
At 0:52 he said he took an empty trailer to Manchester, waited for it to get loaded and then brought in back down to swindon. He started at 10am and finished at 10pm. How much do you think he got paid for that shift?
I'm on salary I have the same each and every week no matter what I do. £600 a week which means £120 a day.

I hate when truck drivers complain that they have to wait around lol. I would use that 6 hours waiting time wisely such as sleeping, reading a book or chatting on the phone with friends, family or partner. But I guess everyone’s different. Good video though.

How can the left lane go right? If you are able to go left around that roundabout then any traffic on the left can't cross in front of you.
Many roundabouts where I live allow you to go right in the left lane.
@@lukecinahgvyeah that's interesting. While we adopted most of the UK's traffic laws that one is different to ours. Our left lane is marked to show straight on (left) only otherwise someone is risking turning into the right hand traffic, which does seem odd for the UK to be using. Cheers.

How is it you get paid as a HGV driver? Do you get paid per delivery, is it respective to the value of what you're transporting? Per mile? Set wage? :o
It depends on who you work for. me personally, I am in salary. I get paid the same each week regardless to deliveries made. I get £600 a week basic. Then and additional £25 for every night I sleep on the truck. I could earn up to £725 a week.
@@lukecinahgv How long do you tend to spend driving per week for that basic wage? £25 just to sleep sounds good in retrospect but having a family I'd imagine you don't do that often
@@kylewren568 work for around 60 hours a week. yeah spending time with family is more important but do you have to stay out occasionally tend to bring home 625-675 and week
