    Thank you for the tips. Just bought the 2 person tent, which I will use as a spacious solo-tent. Immediately set it up in the backyard. I like the features and the low weight, but I was surprised at how thin the materials are, especially the floor. This is my first lightweight tent, so I’m used to heavier and thicker materials. The durability over time is a concern. Time will tell. I’m definitely adding something to protect the floor from the ground.

    • @benlavigueur4275
      @benlavigueur4275 Před rokem +2

      I hear your concern, and it's a valid one. In order to make the product weigh less, the material needs to be thinner.
      In truth, I think you'll be surprised at how durable it actually is. The key to preserving the floor is making sure you clear your ground space really well. Remove any sticks or sharp rocks that you can. Pick a site that has soft ground when at all possible. I've gone without using a floor protector many times and just used the optional footprint. I would recommend that, at a minimum, to help with your concerns. Happy camping !

      @sharamkh oh yeah! Still use it. It's my go-to tent for camping with the wife or one of the kids. It's just the reality of today's lightweight products. It's not even that thin compared to a lot of other lightweight gear.

    Another advantage to fully guying out your tent is that it acts as a warning system for curious bears. Don't ask how I know this.

  • @robch4414
    @robch4414 Před 3 lety +2

    Quite right on the guying out advice. I had a long discussion about this with BA a couple of years back when they had (they don't seem to nowadays) some basic - and IMO very misleading - guying advice on their website. Apart from anything else, putting multiple lines onto one peg means that all the wind load from one direction is working on that peg, and IF that works out of the ground, then you have no guyline support at all that side of the tent. Yeah, low weight is a competitive thing these days, but not at the expense of a collapsing tent.. All the best.

    • @pathwaysalaska8757
      @pathwaysalaska8757  Před 3 lety +2

      Exactly! Is saving an ounce or two really worth promoting and advertising a product that will ultimately fail in its structural integrity? Is BA truly overlooking this or do they just not care?
      I still really love this tent and BA products but it's crucial for people to have all the information they can when using products like these which is why I made this video. Thanks for watching.

    @karmakh Před 24 dny

    I don't know about 3 years ago, but BA does not (currently) tell you to set the guylines as you showed. Also, 8 stakes is exactly enough to secure all the corners properly when you attach the top layer corners to the footprint corner stakes. Although I do agree that extra stakes would be beneficial in high wind conditions, to get the attachment point further away.

    Cheers on the vid. I just picked one up. First time having such a thin tent fabric, in your experience how durable has just the base tent been? Thinking about getting a footprint or inner liner, don't have a dog

    • @pathwaysalaska8757
      @pathwaysalaska8757  Před 3 lety +1

      I think you need to consider what type of terrain you'll be setting your tent up in. If it's mostly soft forested ground then you can easily clear debris and not worry about puncturing the bottom, then no footprint is necessary. Always try and choose good ground for your site. I'm getting away from using footprints to help save weight and space. One other thing to consider is whether you would choose to use the fast-fly setup. If so, a footprint is required.
      If you decide against a footprint then you can always keep a little Sil-nylon repair tape in your kit
      Hope that helps.
