The ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom unit became the driving force to end the war that took place between theEarth Alliance and PLANT between C.E. 73 and C.E. 74. It was constructed by the Clyne Faction at their hidden arsenal called "Factory" using development data taken from ZAFT. The most prominent feature of this MS is the implementation of the Hyper Deuterion System. This system combines a new form of nuclear power and a Deuterion Beam energy supply system, resulting in abilities that greatly surpass those of ordinary nuclear-powered Mobile Suits. The Strike Freedom also adopted VPS Armor for its external components and PS Armor for its internal frame. Furthermore, the MS has mechanisms where its external armor moves in conjunction with the internal frame, enabling motor functions resembling the human body. Contrary to concerns about disadvantages that may arise due gaps forming when the MS moves, its defensive abilities did not diminish, and the mechanism was useful for discharging surplus energy of the PS Armor that emits a golden radiance. This moving armor system was incorporated on the premise that Kira Yamato would become its pilot, indicating that it was essentially developed as a dedicated unit. Each of its armaments were upgraded versions of equipment used by previous units such as the ZGMF-X10A Freedom and the Second Stage series units. The combination with Kira's maneuvering skills and the Multi Lock-On System enabled the MS to demonstrate high offensive powers in both firefights and melee Combat. Developed as a unit dedicated to Kira, a Coordinator pilot with extraordinary abilities, the Strike Freedom is arguably the most iconic unit representing the second conflict between the Earth Alliance and PLANT. Ever since its first deployment, it achieved remarkable results in the major battles near the end of the war, such as the Orb defense battle, the attack on Station One, and the Battle of Messiah.
