  • Majority arise in parotid, then in the submandibular gland, and rest in the minor salivary glands.
    Salivary gland tumor being malignant is inversely proportional to the size of the gland.
    15% to 30% of tumors in the parotid glands are malignant.
    40% of submandibular, 50% of minor salivary gland are cancerous.

    about the histology of mucoepidermoid cells, can you show where is the intermediate cells. Can you show the differences between low-grade, intermediate-grade and high-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma in histopathology.

    • @pathologysimplified
      @pathologysimplified  Před 5 lety +1

      Intermediate cells look like basal cells.
      In a low-grade carcinoma, well-formed glandular or microcystic structures are present, lined by a single layer of mucus-secreting columnar cells.
      Intermediate are characterized by
      solidly growing areas of epidermoid cells or even frankly
      squamous cells or intermediate basaloid-type elements.The high-grade variants have even more increased tendency for the intermediate basal cells and the epidermoid
      cells to appear in solid nests or cords.
      Hope this solves your query

    Dr told me I have a tumer in my parotid! It’s been there for several months. They referred me to see another Dr and they said the other Dr might want to do a needle biopsy! I didn’t schedule my appointment right away! I scheduled it in February. Is this so important that I should make the appointment sooner? Or will it be ok to wait? I have a lot of appointments scheduled this month and that’s why I put it out so far! If it’s something I need to have looked at sooner than I will! I’m also wondering if I should worry about cancer! Thank you!

      My tumour was diagnosed in Feb 2019 after a mri, I had a needle biopsy which came back clear and finally had it removed in a December 2019. The tumour was tested again and it’s clear from cancer,. My consultant said that it was very rare for them to be cancerous but even though they are slow growing they could become cancerous eventually.

      I had a tumour removed from my parotid in December 2019, I’m 2.5 months down the line so I thought I would mention my experience so far. The operation took 4 hours as the tumour was quite deep and pushing the inner wall of my throat in to my airway. I have a scar about 7 inches long that runs down the front of my ear, round the back of my ear and down the side of my neck kinda like an S shape. I would recommend above all else to get your pain under control before you leave hospital, I was on strong pain relief for about two weeks then reduced the pain relief weeks three and four, then I stoped taking anything as I was concerned about being reliant on them. The stitches were removed after one week. Now 2.5 months on I have first bite syndrome which may improve in time but I can cope with it and I have some facial weakness and muscle tightness which I am improving with stretching exercises. To be honest if this is a good as it gets I’m alright with it I’m just glad the tumour is out and it was cancer free. In all other ways I’m back to normal. I am gong back for another MRI in 6 months. Tips make sure you have some soft food to eat drink through a straw to improve muscle tone, When you leave hospital, make sure you have a good two weeks off before returning to work as l was in a lot of pain for a week. I hope this helps someone as I don’t know what to expect really.
